Sailor Moon as a mermaid.......2007-09-07

If you liked "Sailor Moon", you'll love "Pichi Pichi Pitch". This manga follows the adventures of care-free Lucia, the pink mermaid princess of the North Atlantic. Lucia has stationed herself on land in order to find the mermaid princesses of the six other seas so that they may combine their strengths to combat an eminent evil to their underwater kingdoms. But, Lucia must first find her pearl, which is the source of her power. Unbeknownst to her chaperon sister Lucia actually knows the location of her pearl. It is in the possession of her beloved, Kaito, whom she met at the tender age of eight when she witnesses him being swept into the sea from his party cruiser by a freak storm. She gives him her pearl so that he may breath underwater and doesn't set eyes on him again for the next seven years.

You might be mistaken into believing this manga would be action packed and involve Lucia pursuing her mission, but why should she bother to look when everything comes to her? The other mermaid princesses show up, apparently taking their responsibilities more seriously than Lucia, and sexy step-mother villains pursue the mermaid princess' pearls only to be blasted back to their overlord by pichi pichi singing.

The other half of this manga involves Kaito's conflicted pursuit of Lucia. Upon first seeing Lucia in her human form he is attracted to her, but with evil villains out to capture powerful pearls, Lucia is forced to combat them in mermaid form and the reappearance of Kaito's first love sets him into a tailspin; because Lucia is told she will turn into sea foam if she, "willingly reveals her true self [to a human]..." Kaito's attention is double-edged. In her human form Lucia receives Kaito's attention and invitations to festivals. She has her hand held and finger sucked-- and these aren't things Kaito does for any girl. Still, the only form Kaito freely gives his heart to is mermaid Lucia. This frustrates human-form Lucia to no end.

If you're looking for a different spin on the fuzzy mermaid theory I would recommend Rumiko Takahashi's "Mermaid Forest." Otherwise, do not waste your time if you are looking for something original with more depth of character. Storylines for Disney's "The Little Mermaid" are more varied and brain-enhancing.

Ok, I love this book! The story, charecters, everything! If you are into the manga's that envolve things like magical girls, and fighting, this is the book for you!! I LOVE IT!!! Go HaNoN!

Pichi pichi voice..........2006-05-03

This is actually a pretty good translation! Even if you've seen the fan translations, you might as well go get the English version, if only to support the franchise and make someone get the anime license again. One note about the manga- it's really different from the anime. Besides small changes like Shinju-yu and Gackto in the manga becoming Pearl Piari and Gaito in the anime, the show is more child-friendly while the manga is rated T, and some later events (blood during battles, LuciaxKaito and MichalxKaito lead-up scenes, the demise of a certain pair of villains) provide a good reason. None of that happens in the first volume, though, and both versions are pretty good storytelling. If you are of the deluded opinion that magical girls are all Sailor Moon wannabes, if too much pink is bad for your health, or if you just think singing to defeat the enemy is weird (well, it is... and those attack names ["Pretty Sugar Pitch"?] are odd too, but if you think it's weird enough to put you off), you will utterly despise this book. If none of this applies to you, read it. Now. Okay?

A little mermaid story.......2006-02-26

A mermaid princess accidentally gives her special pearl to a human boy. She has to get him to fall in love with her to get her pearl back. She and her mermaid friends can transform into humans and then back into mermaids when they want. They also have a crimefighting idol form.

For me being a chick-flick kinda girl I find the Manga to be one of my favorites at the moment.Sure,there are WAY better series out there,but I think the reason I connect with it so much is because it reminds me of when me and my friends would hang out and watch Sailor Moon.If your going to read this please DO NOT COMPARE IT TO SAILOR MOON!!!Sure in both stories the characters transform into their little outfits,but that fits into the Magical Girl genre not Wannabe Sailor Moon genre.Plus, if any of you people are searching to find the anime PEICE OF ADVICE:don't.The anime is definately for a younger audience and makes it hard to enjoy sometimes.If you really need to see the anime read the manga first which is T for teen, and has a very good translation.

This book details the friendship of Mindy Solomon and Ursela Duran.

They met eachother in a boarding house in NYC in 1981 and quickly became very close. Both had very interesting childhoods and treated eachother more like sisters. Ursela had come to NYC to be a model and was getting noticed by the time that she and Mindy met. Mindy however wanted to be a dancer.

They both worked on their craft. However Ursela's mother started noiseing her self into her daughters life and actually helped her be more famous because she did not like the friendship of her daughter and Mindy.

For a while they did not see eachother, but kept in contact. Mindy however went from being a dancer to a comedian after an engery she sustained during a performance forced her to give up dancing.

They remained close over the years helping eachother when things were rough (such as when Uresla eloped with a comedian and quickly divorced her drug doing cheating husband) Then Mindy and her boyfriend work on a project based on Mindy's comady act that Ursela gets the part for. After this Mindy does not want to see either one of them again and actually becomes pregnant with the baby of Ursela's ex-husband to get back at her.

They both go their own seperate ways but after Ursela gets into a car accident on the way to her mother's house( she had an affair with and married a Hollywood director) Mindy decides to mend fences and they become friends again.

I should note that I was not more than passingly familiar with Rudner's work before I read this book (which I received as a gift). I assume that Rudner fans will likely get even more out of it than I did.

Tickled Pink tells the story of a young dancer who makes her way to New York from Florida only to find that comedy is her true calling. It follows her and her best friend Ursula (an aspiring model/actress) as they climb the path to fame and happiness.

While the book often reads like a semi-autobiographical first novel-- too flat in places, too sweet in others-- it has more heart than you generally find from this kind of work from a performer. It kept me engaged and reading, and even provided some interesting insights into the world of comedy clubs in the 1980s. Nobody is going to accuse it of being a great work of literature, but it really isn't bad.

All in all, I would give it three-and-a-half stars. I enjoyed it more than expected to and you may as well. It makes me a little bit sorry that we opted to see Tom Jones rather than Rudner during our recent trip to Vegas.

I have always loved the humor of Rita Rudner, so it's no surprise that she would write a fantastic book like, "Tickled Pink" that is, at times, downright hilarious, just based upon her characterizations. With the backdrop of solid comedy, wonderful pacing and clever plot development this book is a MUST for those who love humor in their reading. I know, it's trite, but I didn't want it to end. I felt like Rita was telling the story to me over a double latte and I hope she makes a lot of money on this one!

"Tickled Pink: A Comic Novel" by Rita Rudner deals with two friends, Mindy and Ursula who both aimed to make it big in New York. Mindy was aspiring to be a dancer in Broadway while Ursule hoped to be popular as a model. As both came from a difficult family background, they needed each other and considered each other as family. Soon, Ursula became a famous model while Mindy, who was injured in an accident and could never dance again sought a new career - as a comedian. As Ursula became more popular, Mindy's situation stayed the same as she was still waiting for her big break. Unfortunately for them, something happened (don't want to reveal everything here) that broke their relationship and soon they were on their own.

I really enjoy reading this book. I have no idea who Rita Rudner was... received this book as a gift. There are plenty of laugh out loud moments but I feel that this book is more than just that. Rudner deals with issues as such friendship, family and forgiveness. The characters are wonderfully developed... you feel as though you really know Mindy and Ursula. In addition, it gives me insights into the world of stand up comedians and the things that they have to overcome in order to be successful. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a relaxing read.

This book is a great ride.It is So Funny that its Hard to stop reading from cover to cover.Flip back To your favorite chapter and just stare at the pages because each page is brilliant and has a mind of its own.After that i past it to my girlfriend and got no compliants because guy or girl your gonna love Yonekura Kengo and His DR. Decent story with good art.......2007-08-19

The story is about Racheal who goes on a secret mission with Nathan, a guy she has a crush on). They go to retrieve some love letters that were stolen from her grandmother, and if exposed to the public would ruin her.
It's a pretty good story, and the art is good too.
