Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Look out, there is a new Queen of the one-liner.....I can't count how many times I laughed out loud at the zingers flying around in these books. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire series.

5 out of 5 stars Engaging and honest.......2007-08-20

Usually I'm more of a paranormal romance reader. However, these books were so emotionally honest and engaging that I COULD NOT imagine any way to make them better. It was emotionally satisfying, no "tricks" necessary!

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to Virgin River.......2007-08-15

This book was a quick and easy read. Robyn Carr does a phenomenal job of bringing a reader into the story; making you feel as if you actually are a part of the characters' lives. Her heroine, Mel, is wonderful and she makes you long for the friendships and relationships that develop in such a small town. I hope that you take a chance and make a detour to this fine town called Virgin River. The Dr. is always in and Jack's place offers a wonderful meal and job if you need one. I think he may be hiring soon. You never know who you will meet or what situation you will find yourself in, but you will know whether or not you are accepted; no matter why you end up here.

5 out of 5 stars Great new author for me!.......2007-08-09

This was the first book I've read by Robyn Carr and I loved it! I did not want it to end. I immediately went to the bookstore and bought the other two in this series. I'm also looking for her Grace Valley trilogy. I understand from Ms. Carr's website that she's writing more books in the Virgin River series. Hurry up already. :)

Book Description

Every teenage girl craves male attention. But how does she know when and where to draw the line? What if she's already stepped over that line? And how can she find her way back? In a culture where hookups and friends-with-benefits are commonplace, how far is too far when it comes to the physical? The technical virgin, a term becoming all too familiar with Christian teens, is someone who believes in abstinence but allows loopholes in their physical relationships, thereby compromising true purity. In this new book, Hayley DiMarco takes a look at what purity really is. With her straightforward, in-your-face writing, she shows girls: what they are really saying about themselves through their sexy actions; what happens when purity is reduced to a technicality; what words like abstinence and commitment really mean; what God says on the subject of purity . With candid advice, personal insight, and tough truth from God's Word, Hayley DiMarco will help teen girls understand who they are so they can make informed, godly decisions about purity and sex.

1 out of 5 stars Misses the mark.......2007-07-29

How do you keep from engaging in sexual immorality? Where exactly is the line that delineates the wrong from the right? And what about those who have already fallen into destructive relationships and behaviors? Can they yet reclaim an element of virginity...technically speaking? These are a few of the questions Hayley DiMarco confronts and tries to respond to in her latest attempt at a purity book, "Technical Virgin: How Far is Too Far?" However, for the most part, she misses the mark.

Instead of getting to the root of the problem, Technical Virgin provides only obvious, superficial answers. Instead of advising young women to guard their hearts and pursue Christ and offering specific lessons from the Bible, DiMarco merely identifies the consequences of sexual immorality and, of course, where to draw the line.

Though she tries to relate to her teenage audience, her book comes off sounding more like a research project because it is filled with dictionary definitions, sociological and psychological terms, and endless statistics. While she does give solid evidence that non-marital sexual activity has negative results and is not condoned by Scripture, she loses her credibility through sweeping generalizations and statements whose only proof is either her own personal opinion or because "that's just the way it is."

The main problem of Technical Virgin can be found in the subtitle. The question "how far is too far?" focuses too much on following a list of do's and don'ts than on changing the heart. The Bible has much to say about premarital purity, personal discipline, sexual fulfillment, and genuine love. None of those lessons are examined or shared in this book. In trying so hard to speak to younger women on a level DiMarco assumes we are locked in at, she underestimates our desire to learn more about God's perfect plan for our lives. This book offers some starting points for discussion in regard to this topic, but it does not provide the solid foundation of godly edification we young women of faith are seeking to obtain.

3 out of 5 stars I'm sorry . . . .......2007-06-03

. . . but I can't in good conscience recommend this book.

As a father, a teacher, and a youth minister, I'm always on the lookout for something of value on the subject of moral purity, especially with regard to teens. When I first saw this book, I hoped that it could be something I could use, or at least recommend.

I'm sad to say that I cannot do so.

Why then the three stars? Because, in all honesty, the book does have some good things to say. It presents some blunt honesty with regard to sexaul relationships that many teen girls need. (As do many teen boys!) The morality presented is traditional, Biblical, Christian morality with regard to sexual expression outside of marriage. This much is good.

HOWEVER . . .

The treatment of young male teens in this book is, in my view, totally unacceptable, and borders -- more than borders -- on demeaning stereotypes. (And I say this from having 1) been a teen for seven years!, and 2) from having teenagers of both genders). Yes, it goes without saying that males in their teens and twenties have a truly boiling sex drive. No question there. But the way the book treats young males is as essentially totally amoral sex machines, incapable of any self-control, restraint, or deeper level of feelings or emotions. And this is a blatant and unfair stereotype. (If the reverse stereotype had been suggested, I wonder if this book would have ever been published.)

Yes, I am all for upholding Biblical standards of morality. Yes, I am all for encouraging our teens to live chaste and upright lives. But this book swings too wide and paints with too broad a brush. I can't endorse it.

5 out of 5 stars Female Porn in a Christian book?.......2007-03-08

This is one book you must have in your personal library if you work with female youth! This book reviews what you already know & updates you on current happenings, but it also gives a new persepctive on some things I had never even considered. Like "Female Porn"!! Yes, us females find some types of movies to be "eye candy" for us. We end up having unrealistic expectations for our "guys" to be like the chic flics we so dearly enjoy watching. Get the book and read it. I had not realized all us females have fallen into this trap, not just my youth I minister to. I bought this for some of my youth, and other youth workers I know. Recommeneded it on my website too for other youth leaders to check out! This book is a must!

5 out of 5 stars Must Read for parents and teen girls.......2007-01-29

Technical Virgin by Hayley DiMarco is another of her outstanding books that pull no punches and have totally plain talk and facts about sex which teenage girls need to know. The statistics of STDs in young teens is appalling, and DiMarco tells the straight facts about how "just messing around but not going all the way" can also cause a person to get sexually transmitted diseases, depression, and other severe health and psychological problems, in addition to the risk of pregnancy. The book is written for Christian girls and their parents but would be beneficial to all teens, male or female, to know the facts. As unbelievable as it seems to parents and older generations, a large percentage of girls from early teens are engaged in all types of sexual activity, even when they have pledged abstinance, because to these young people nothing but intercourse is considered sex. Parents, this is a MUST READ with your daughter.

5 out of 5 stars this book spells relief.......2006-11-18

this is an excellent book aimed a specific group of girls or women. It fit me perfectly, and i felt incredibly convicted (in a good, i-want-to-change way). The use of scripture, statistics, and personal stories combined into a powerful guide to staying pure, avoiding situations that might lead to sexual encounters, and finding grace and repentence. It was harsh, but this is a subject that needs to be approached firmly. In our sex-saturated world, we sometimes need a slap in the face to see just how bad things are. This book was a wonderful, moving slap in the face for me.
*Note: this book is intended for girls who have already accepted Christ as their savior.

Book Description

A genius, a beauty, a leader, and a manipulator, Elizabeth I has fascinated and enthralled her public for centuries. The era that bears her name was the most exciting and dazzling in England's history. Witty, cruel, brave, and cantankerous, Elizabeth fascinated and exasperated her intimates, and when she died in 1603 at the age of seventy, she was at the height of her public popularity. Christopher Hibbert's masterful biography introduces a new generation of readers, aware of the challenges women face in wielding power, to perhaps history's greatest monarch. He has given readers today a reason to appreciate and marvel at one of the most remarkable women who has ever lived.

"[Hibbert] never writes a dull or an incomprehensible page...the details of [this book] are often brilliantly illuminating." (Antonia Fraser)

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Elizabeth as supporting player.......2006-03-14

The name "Elizabethan" invokes a vision of an era of sumptuous dress, religious strife, European conflict, and the flourishing of the dramatic arts. The Virgin Queen is a study of the ruler for whom the time is named, and her rule, which lasted for an almost-unprecedented 45 years.

Hibbert takes a primarily episodic approach to Elizabeth's life, from her birth as the unwanted daughter of Henry VIII and his second, ill-fated wife, Ann Boleyn. When Henry finally produces a legitimate male heir, Elizabeth is reduced from "princess" to "lady." After her unpopular, Catholic half-sister Mary ascends to the throne and she is vaguely implicated in some plots against the new queen, Elizabeth is imprisoned despite her seeming subservience and her pleas of innocence, devotion, and loyalty.

Raised away from the court by hired nobility and taught by Cambridge scholars, Elizabeth appears to be both demure and autocratic. The important point is "appears," because, while Elizabeth in her correspondence is deferential and in her appearance demure, her peers invariably see her as withdrawn, haughty, and "proud and disdainful"-traits that "much blemished the handsomeness and beauty of her person" (Sir William Sidney). Mary, not unjustifiably paranoid, does not believe in Elizabeth's humility, honesty, or loyalty. Hibbert's portrayal of Elizabeth, who craves the adoration of peers, councilors, and subjects alike, seems to support Mary's assessment.

Elizabeth proves to be arrogant and autocratic, allowing no one to question either her or her rights as ruler. She is keenly aware of the importance of having the support of the populace, which she enjoys in contrast to the despised "Bloody Mary." She ignores the advice of privy council, however, when it suits her, occasionally to the detriment of her popularity.

Hibbert does not explain why or how Elizabeth, kept out of the way during the reigns of her half-brother and half-sister, became so popular. This points to one of the flaws of Hibbert's episodic approach; recounting Elizabeth's life in terms of "Subjects and Suitors" (although not all of them), "Papists and Puritans," "The Queen in her Privy Chamber," "Traitors and Rebels" (again, not all of them), and so forth, veils or distorts much of the historical context of Elizabeth's development and reign. Within one chapter, she may be young at one point and in late middle age at another. With England's changing allegiances and relationships with France and Spain, it is difficult to track what is happening at a given time and why. Elizabeth's most noted accomplishment, England's defeat of the Spanish armada, is covered briefly and superficially, almost as an aside, leaving the reader with the impression that it was happenstance that no one, including Elizabeth or the privy council, had much to do with; it just happened, with little explanation.

The tale of Elizabeth's suitors can be equally confusing. Hibbert describes her negotiations with Henry, Duke of Anjou (later Henry III of France), when he was 20 and, "in fact, twenty years younger than herself." A few pages later, Hibbert discusses her negotiations with his younger brother Francis when Francis is "not yet nineteen" and she is 39, yet it appears that the talks with the older brother occurred first, which would make sense. Even more confusing, the negotiations with younger brother Francis continued until she was 45 (they would be the last hopes of getting her married).

Elizabeth's treatment of religious conflict is glossed over. While Mary is noted for her brutal repression of Protestants, Elizabeth, at least in this biography, is a conservative Protestant who fears and loathes radicals of any kind, Protestant or Catholic. During her reign, repression is focused primarily on the rebellious poor; she is less interested in punishing the wealthy nobility than in grabbing their riches.

As portrayed by Hibbert, Elizabeth is a parsimonious, greedy, emotionally needy woman who wishes to rule absolutely but who cannot make a necessary, definitive decision, such as signing the death warrant for her conniving cousin, Mary Stuart. The privy council, led by Lord Burghley, the Earl of Leicester, and others, devote much of their efforts to manipulating this indecisive autocrat into decisions they want and to making sure that she cannot renege on them-an ironic situation for the woman who says to Burghley's son, "Little man, little man, the word must is not to be used to princes."

There are several weaknesses in addition to the episodic structure. For example, the queen herself is not quoted often enough in key areas, yet Hibbert devotes one-third of a page to Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poem speculating about how she might have felt during her confinement in the Tower of London.

Most notably, however, the book's subtitle is never explained-neither why the era is "golden" nor why the queen was the "genius" of it. While the biography makes it clear that Elizabeth had a strong personality, as did her parents, the nation's successes seem to have been the work of the privy council under the leadership of Lord Burghley and of adventurers like Sir Walter Ralegh. Elizabeth is not shown even to have played a role in, for example, nurturing the famed playwrights of the time, such as Shakespeare, Marlow, and Beaumont. The subtitle implies that Elizabeth's brilliance inspired a benign, cultured age, while the text shows a woman so cold and petty that, when her best friend and seeming lover Leicester dies, she worries only about controlling his estates and monies, and so indecisive that her own privy councilors avoid working with her whenever possible. The age itself is brutal, with the crowd "disgusted by the spectacle" of a drawing and quartering performed, against tradition, while the victims are still alive.

At best, The Virgin Queen is a brief, superficial biography that leaves the reader hungry for more-more about Burghley, Leicester, Mary Stuart, and others, but not about Elizabeth herself, who somehow becomes a supporting player in her own biography.

5 out of 5 stars Brief Biography That Is To The Point.......2004-07-27

This book is a good general introduction to Queen Elizabeth. Hibbert always paints a portrait of his subject, rather than discussing every detail of the person's life. Since most biographers write too much, we should all be grateful to Hibbert. He does a great job of describing Queen Elizabeth's decisionmaking process, her interactions with her advisors, and her reluctance to marry. He also explains the religious issues that surrounded the time briefly yet thoughtfully.

3 out of 5 stars a good read for those who are interested in Elizabeth I.......2004-04-30

This is a biography of Elizabeth I, The Virgin Queen. And that's exactly what it is. Queen Elizabeth I, daughter of Henry the VIII is a legend, which Mr. Hibbert attempts to address. Often, this is a dry and, at times, tedious read. However, the details of Elizabeth's physical appearance, politics, and idiosyncracies are extremely interesting. The author details life with Elizabeth and her court, including both of the Queen Marys, Robert Dudley, Sirs Walter Raleigh and William Cecil and others.

The time line is obscure - Mr. Hibbert jumps around quite a bit and it can be confusing to the reader that isn't paying exacting attention. I wouldn't recommend it to a casual reader looking for a lot of melodrama and action. But, all in all, this is a good read for those who are interested in Elizabeth I.

4 out of 5 stars A good Introduction to Elizabeth I.......2001-11-14

I've been a fan of Hibbert's historical works for many years and this is a solid one-volume introduction to a woman whose fascinating life almost seems made for the movies (as it frequently has been). However, specialists in Elizabeth should be aware this is definitely an introduction and does not go into the depth that authors like Alison Plowden bring to their multiple volumes. And I did find - having read a great many books on Elizabeth - that there was an indefinable quality to Hibbert's work that became slightly irksome. In the early 20th century and before, it was standard convention to write about Elizabeth's prevarication, her changes of mood and occasional bad temper, and the despair of her (all male) counselors, as a typical example of an emotional women who happened to be queen. I've even read volumes which imply that Elizabeth's reputation is largely due to her male council keeping her feminine weaknesses under control. Only in the past decades has that slightly condescending tone been dropped and Elizabeth seen for the statesman she was (albeit, still a difficult woman!) I detected the slightest hint of that condescension in Hibbert's book, particularly in his later chapters dealing with Elizabeth's agonies in deciding how to deal with Mary Queen of Scots. For that reason only, I rate it a "4" and not a "5." With that slight caveat, an excellent introduction overall.

4 out of 5 stars Not just a boring bio.......2001-10-05

For those interested in the life of Queen Elizabeth, I recommend this biography. Unlike a cold interpretation, Hibbert allows us an accounting that reads fairly easily with descriptive details lively enough to keep the pages turning.

5 out of 5 stars Much needed guide.......2003-01-31

I was a "festival virgin" at last year's event and this book was a life-saver. Cannes is expensive, but if you know where to go and what to avoid, it can be a much more enjoyable experience. The insight into a rather confusing festival structure was also incredibly useful. Lonely Planet for filmmakers!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2007-10-08

I would rate this book more than 5 stars if I could. The characters of Preacher and Paige were so well written and along with all the ancillary characters, made this such an enjoyable read. This was my favorite of the series.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful!.......2007-09-11

I am so glad I read about this series on a message board because I had not previously read Robyn Carr's books. This is a wonderful series!

5 out of 5 stars Shelter Mountain.......2007-09-09

I can get lost in real life stories... ones that take me away. I really get into a book can laugh and cry along with them. I stumbled across Robin Carr in one of the author sites I surf and thought it sounded good and now I look for everything she writes can't imagine why she isn't listed up at the top with Daniell Steel and Nora Roberts she is in my book!!

4 out of 5 stars Shelter Mountain.......2007-09-09

Fortunately I read Virgin River first and what I really enjoyed was how the books flowed right into the next one in the trilogy. I was very happy that Carr did not feel the need to over state what happend in book one and I loved the characters. I am not a romance kind of reader so this was a different group of books for me. Guick read, nice sex without over the top. Real people without being unbelievable. I enjoyed all three books.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed devoted reader...........2007-09-01

I have been a big fan of Robyn Carr for a couple of years now and many of her books are on my short list of favorites, but I must admit that I was really disappointed in the Virgin River series. Just seeing the name "Robyn Carr" made me buy all three books but in the end I felt like a problem with the series was the way the themes of domestic violence/rape were presented. I felt like these themes were just too obvious, there was no subtlety in their presentation. I understand an author's desire to write about a character who survives domestic violence, but it's important to keep in mind that you're writing about a character who is dealing with the issue--not creating a story around the issue--does this make sense? The biggest problem for me were that details about DV weren't well woven into the story. My biggest complaint about this series is similar to what another reviewer wrote about Carr's "Blue Skies"--we appreciate Carr's research and her respect for accuracy, but not when the little details interfere with the actual storytelling.

I did still enjoy the books, but just in an "okay" way. Compared to her other works, the Virgin River series really falls flat to me. I think the Grace Valley series is still one of her best, and another favorite of mine is "The House on Olive Street." If you're new to Carr's works, I would suggest those over Virgin River.

5 out of 5 stars Consecration to Our Blessed Mother.......2007-07-04

For the person who is seeking the meaning of what is Consecration to Our Lady and what is the process , I would suggest that they look no further than this book. It is intended for those who are seriously considering this spiritual activity/commitment and who require explicit guidelines and a sense of being completely informed. It is in its own way a course on the topic.

5 out of 5 stars Not only for Pius X.......2006-11-06

A wonderful guide to starting on the road to holiness.

Regardless of whether or not this book is held in esteem by the Society of Pius X (not opening the debate on whether or not the society is schismatic), this devotion has been accepted and recommended by the Church long before Vatican II, and has continued to be recommended by holy priests who remained under Rome after Vatican II. This is simply a complete collection of the writings that Saint Louis Marie de Montfort recommends. It is crucial that we, as Catholics, do not discourage it.

5 out of 5 stars NOT AGAINST CHURH DOCTRINE.......2006-08-19

The actual book is written by a saint according to the Catholic Church. The break away group that another review talks about are considered break away because they want to continue to hold mass in the Pre-Vatican II mode, but not because their doctrinal beliefs are wrong. In any case the actual writting is translated from St. Louis De Montfort who is still deemed as a great saint and furthermore this consecration by formula of Montfort is done and esteemed by many excellent Priests. Pope John Paul II said Montfort's Formula changed his life and started his path towards sanctity

5 out of 5 stars Most helpful devotion to go to Heaven.......2003-04-28

Human Beings ignore that every day of their life they advance toward their death and what there is after. Even if they ignore it, they head for that. And if they know that, even if they don't want it, they go toward it because God wants it and nobody can resist his will which is competent for everybody WITHOUT ANY EXCEPTION (we will see God who will tell us either: "it is well, Good servant come in the Joy of your Lord" either: "withdraw from bad servant, I don't know you").
And if we say all these things, we can't say the contrary because between two things which contradict each other, one only can be respectable and the other can be rejected: error is not respectable; it is false to think that there is nothing after death and there is no liberty in this thought (God did not ask before our birth if we wanted to live or not: it is the same thing for the death and after the death: there is no truth stronger than that). Freedom is only in truth and not in some false choices as modern man pretends.
Because the most important is to go to heaven and because all happiness on earth is nothing compared to the hapinness of Heaven. On the opposite, because misfortune of hell is very much more horrible compared to all of the most horrible misfortunes of this earth, it is very important to find a means to go to heaven. There is nothing better than the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is wonderful and powerful with God who is his Son. His Son can't stand that our Mother is insulted or offended. But he loves a lot those who love her. Because she has a great influence on her Son and because She prevented him from chastising Human Beings for their iniquities, it is the most useful, the most helpful devotion that we can have. She is so sweet, so kind that she can obtain all the things that we ask if it is conformed to the will of God who doesn't want any evil.
Dear readers, I hope that you will take care of these truths which are not invented by anybody but before we lived on this earth, they existed already and they existed before the very beginning of this world in the mind of God.
The Book of Saint louis de Montfort help to be full of them.
I hope that at the end you will go to heaven which is much less far than we think... Many Human Beings die when they don't plan it: it is a very actual fact that God comes always like a thief; today more than 5000 persons died: where are they now? Only God knows, the only holy thief. And tomorrow it will be the same thing and so on until the end of times. When will this day (terrible for sinners and sweet for those who bravely fighted on earth) happen to us? Let us be ready for this day which can be tomorrow... And the best means is the Blessed Virgin Mary. The book of Saint Louis de Montfort is very good to eliminate all the things which displease to God (only sins displease him and we sin everyday). Let God have mercy on us not only in this world where his mercy is evident but in the other world where alas very few people find it because gate which leads to Heaven is very narrow. God bless you who hear the true word of God.
It is only in his Church which is the Catholic Church that we find the Truth. The Church condamned many heresies like protestantism and many false religions where God is not the Master but arranged by Human Beings and put with other divinities: how can God stand it because he knows that he is alone and there is no several gods in Heaven but only him. Who would enjoy it in his place? It seems like scoffing at him to put divinities equal to him as they are nothing more than fiction beings in the imagination of men. Do you enjoy to be mocked? I don't think so. God doesn't enjoy either.
And for those who don't hear it, I wish from all my heart that you will convert one day before it is too late to the true faith without mixing that with any error that God hates (modern world does that all the time). Hatred of God is so strong that I don't wish you to be in its range because you will feel it alas eternally. And don't laugh for God warned us: "Misfortune to you who laugh because you will cry". But I wish you to labor in this world: "Happiness to you you cry because you will laugh" he also said.
God uses those who are crazy to confuse those who are wise. If you are wise and if I am crazy now (because these truths are crazy for the world), in the other world, I will be wise and you will be crazy, not for a short time like now but for eternity. 2000 years, it is nothing, it is not even the beginning of eternity...
Let Our Mother enlighten you, it is what I wish you from my heart of hearts because for anybody I don't wish hell. And I pray with other catholics who have the true catholic faith for you very much, dear readers. Have a true devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and you will be saved.

1 out of 5 stars Not approved by the Church.......2001-01-03

Catholics thinking about purchasing this book should know that it is written and published by representatives of the break-away organization the "Society of St. Piux X," that the book bears neither an Imprimatur nor Nihil Obstat from Catholic bishops, and that its contents and commentaries are not necessarily conforming to Catholic doctrine.

This CD and book is THE most beautiful and meaningful gift I've ever received. My husband heard the song on the radio and went searching for it at music store where he found the Mark Lowry book/CD. I couldn't stop crying the first time I heard it. To read the birth of Christ through the eyes of His mother, the most Holy Theotokos, brings a new perspective to this great and holy holiday. I encourage everyone reading this review to purchase one for yourself and one for someone you love.

I fell in love with this song one Christmas Eve midnight mass years ago. I have since lost my newborn triplet daughters and my 9 year old daughter Emily. I then found this book at a resale shop and read it one night while having trouble with my grief. I cried. The book was very helpful and remembering that Mary is a bereaved parent helped me with my own pain.

This is an exquisite jewel of a gift, suitable for just about everyone on your list! The CD is performed by the composer of this most beautiful Christmas song and the book which houses it is beautifully done with illustrations and prose that will remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas. Plus, the modest price makes it possible to buy one for all the special people on your list!

4 out of 5 stars Very good.......2007-10-08

This was a very good book. I did not like it as well as the first two, but feel it is definitely worth reading. I hope Ms. Carr decides to continue the series. I loved reading about Virgin River and all it's inhabitants.

5 out of 5 stars Great book and series.......2007-09-17

Robyn Carr out did herself in this book along with the other two in the Virgin River series. I highly recommend this book and the other two. I had a hard time putting them down.
I love how she not only introduces you to the new characters but keeps you up to date with others from the previous books. You get the continuing saga of the other couples.
I can't wait until the release date for her next three Virgin River books. Especialy what will happen to a couple you meet towards the end of this particular book, when tragity strikes in the taking of a life of a friend and a lover, but how happiness can prevail.

5 out of 5 stars Virgin River Trilogy is wonderful!.......2007-09-11

I read about this series on a message board, and decided to try them. I am so glad I did! Robyn Carr has created wonderful characters and I am anxious to read more in this series.

5 out of 5 stars Whispering Rock (Virgin River Trilogy).......2007-08-28

One of the three novels comprising the Virgin River Trilogy - another winner. As an avid reader with eclectic tastes, I found this to be a book I could not put down. I often reread my favorite books and am keeping this one along with its companions for just that reason.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent third installment.......2007-08-20

I read all three back to back, that's probably why this one didn't wrench me as much as the second one. Still, it's a very emotional story - incredibly written. Robyn has really outdone herself in taking her characters on a realistic journey to find love.
I really felt like I knew these people and I really hope we get a chance to visit them again. Soon.
