Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Ideas, Ideas, Ideas.......2003-01-29
I found a few ideas to try that I never would have tried prior. Not everything is for everyone, but most should be able to pick out one or two projects that pay in themselves for the cost of the book. I would have, however, appreciated more step - wise pictures and having the instructions with the item, instead of in the back of the book.
Wish I Had Thought of That.......2003-01-24
I have to admit, I actually borrowed this book from the library first to see if it was worth purchasing and it definitely is!! Great ideas on fairly easy projects that I can't wait to try. I'm no Martha Stewart, but I think I could actually DO most of the projects in this book. Very inspirational and the projects actually look NICE, not like grade school crafts. I recommend it!
Flea Market Finds: Instant Ideas & Weekend Wonders.......2003-01-22
On the positive side, the photographs are excellent. That's the only good news. This book does nothing but tell you how to make ... out of ... I'd return it if I could. The directions are sparse and usually say, use according to manufacturer's directions. Oh yea, I paid for that little tidbit. You have to be a moron not to have come up with anything in this publication.

Neat book for beginners with wonderful References for those intrested in actually investigating w/professionals.......2007-02-15
The Best part of this book are the references the author gives of professionals who actually Do this work on a daily basis. Take the contact information for example of Psychic-Medium and Parapsychological Investigator: Michael J. Kouri who has appeared on more International Television and Radio Shows than any other Real Psychic-Medium in the United States, today. It gives his website and contact information on how to actually work with someone as Legitimate an Investigator & to me, That is really cool! Some of the chapters could have included technical equipment, however the Medium is the real tool for any Paranormal Investigation.
The information inside is "very" basic, but could be helpful to those interested in the Investigation Field of Parapsychology or the Armchair Ghost Hunter.
Worthwhile for the rookie, but you'll quickly move past it if you take an interest........2007-02-11
Bought this book at the recommendation of a couple of Sci-Fi's "Ghost Hunters" crew. It is indeed a good starter book, but if you take more than a casual interest in ghost hunting, you will quickly outgrow it. The book lacks more of the technical detail a lot of people are seeking, which is probably not the fault of the author, per se...it is an "Idiot's" guide, after all.
It's cheap enough and worth the money to add it to your library, especially for casual paranormal enthusiasts.
Not Worth The Money.......2006-06-07
The best part about this book is the introduction. Any serious ghost hunter / paranormal investigator need not waste their time or money with this one.
A Good Read.......2003-02-02
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Though it's an "Idiot's" guide, the author does not insult the intelligence of his reader. The tone of the book is just right. The author does not give himself away as a dyed-in-the-wool believer, and neither is he a rock-em sock-em skeptic a la the CISCOP gang. Instead, he presents the information in a light, fun, informative manner. The bibliography at the back of the book warmed the cockles of my heart, as they've gotten to be rare as hen's teeth in these days of vanishing literacy. In addition there are addresses of groups and other resources for those interested in learning more. Maybe this book was not written for Rocket-Scientist- stiff-upper-lip-all-night-in-the-crypt-ghost hunters (a little joke there...a little irony...) but it covers many topics and it does a masterful job at doing so. For instance, it gives a good accounting of Urban Legends as well as phantasmagoria...now where are you going to find that range under one cover? Yes, Odgen does get a fact or two wrong, but that's a far cry from the usual rote repetition of hearsay that passes for fact in almost every paranormal book on the market. (And, sure, it's a good book for kitty-box reading if that's what your passion is!) I also like his presentation of the historical beginnings of spiritualism, tracing them directly to Swedenborg (an old buddy) and Andrew Jackson Davis, the 19th c. seer before the Foxettes shuffled off with the show in Hydesville, N.Y. Ilustrations are good too--many classics here, including that cute Drummer of Tedworth! And--as a bonus--he includes a mini-Ouija board for some do-it-yourself yesyes fun.
Unfortunately will not make idiots any wiser.......2002-08-08
I have to say I was surprised at all the factual errors in this book. I know there are no "facts" in paranormal investigations, but this book gets actual "facts" wrong when discussing people and places. Queen Elizabeth I is not buried at Windsor Castle; she's entombed at Westminster Abbey. This is just one small example of MANY inaccuracies found in this book.

Fictionalized account of Kashmir conflict.......2007-06-28
Ms. Hardy's previous non-fiction books are the reason I purchased The Wonder House. Although the characters are depicted accurately, the book jumps around too much and the reason for one character's deafness is unclear until the very end of the book. I'd like to see more non-fiction from Ms. Hardy rather than another novel.
Extremely disappointing.......2006-07-26
My eyes happened to caught the cover of The Wonder House as I made my way out of the bookstore. I was elated to discovery that the story took place in my homeland- Kashmir. However, I was throughly disappointed after finishing the book at the complete lack of historic accuracy and the biased against the Indian army. Besides the factual portion of the novel, I wasn't impressed by the writing style- at certain times extremely noncongruent, choppy sentences. The jumping around of different viewpoints made the novel diffiult to follow.
Also I wish the author had concluded the novel with a little more death. The murder of the main character was left completely unresolved.
A stunning, deeply moving novel of Kashmir.......2006-07-11
More vivid, and yet more true to life than any non-fiction account of the war torn mountain paradise of Kashmir this extraordinary book brings the place alive in all its beauty and horror. You get a visceral sense of the gorgeousness of Kashmir: the mountain light on the lakes, the scent of the pine forests, the handsomeness and humor of the people. But it also takes you deep into a brutal counter-insurgency war in a way that is fair to all sides but brings home the human cost of violence. Indeed there are times in 'the Wonder House' when it's all but impossible not to cry. This is one of the most important and powerful novels written about South Asia in many years.

Book Description
Amazing real-life tales of animals — combined with delightfully surreal illustrations — make for a captivating book of a different stripe.
Whoever heard of a horse who lived in a house (while its owners lived next door)? Or two donkeys who had a marriage feast? Or an official spying cat who was wired for sound? These stories and many more — all quite strange, all very true — come from newspaper reports around the world. With paintings by Kathy Osborn hinting at magic realism and journalist Gail Ablow’s wonderfully witty text, this fascinating collection has much to say about creatures ranging from hippos to humans, who may in fact be the strangest animals of all.

THE COMPLETE BACKYARD NATURE ACTIVITY BOOK
You can tell that Robin Michal Koontz, the author-illustrator of this book, has personal knowledge of the wildlife subjects she writes about. Each topic, from butterflies to birds to bats, gives children a wealth of information and plenty of projects to choose from. For example, kids can make a hummingbird feeder from an empty plastic bottle or draw a "family tree" of all the animals that use a tree for food or shelter. The sidebars provide fascinating information, such as the fact that many birds pick up ants and tuck them under their wings, so that the ants can deter lice, mites, and other annoying pests. I highly recommend this book - parents as well as kids can learn from it.

Historical fact: On January 1, 1801, Elder John Leland, a Baptist minister, delivered a 1,235-pound wheel of Cheshire cheese to Thomas Jefferson as a gift of gratitude for Jefferson 's support of religious freedom.
Candace Fleming has taken this little-known detail and turned it into a deliciously delightful little "Tale of a Tremendous Cheddar."
In Fleming's story the villagers of Cheshire (makers of mouthwatering cheese) heard news "that threatened to sour their curds forever." President Thomas Jefferson was serving cheese made in Norton, Connecticut ! Not to be outdone, Elder John Leland convinced the residents of Cheshire to put their curds together, along with one day's milking from each of their cows and create a "whopping big cheddar."
Easier said than done the villagers soon realized. They had to resort of using a huge apple press to squeeze the whey from the curds. Then, the local blacksmith had to make a huge, custom-forged hoop to hold the cheese. Their efforts paid off however. Once finished, they had on their hands a 1,235 pound, four-foot tall round of cheddar.
After letting the cheese ripen, Elder John and the ever-doubting Phineas Dobbs set off to deliver the mammoth cheese to Jefferson. Sledding and sailing their way to Washington, the duo finally arrive at the nation's capital amid trumpets, banners, and gaggles of gawkers.
Jefferson, after cutting into cheddar and tasting it, declared it to be "The best you can serve at your table."
Fleming serves up a terrific treat. The tale is charmingly told and fun to read. Schindler's pen-and-ink and watercolor drawings are filled with period details and humorous touches.

Yum, pass the crackers.......2002-03-24
In this true tale of a tremendous cheddar, Candace Fleming asks: "What weighs 1,234 pounds, stands four feet high, and is made from the milk of nine hundred and thirty-four cows?"
"Why, a giant cheese of course!"
When President Thomas Jefferson was serving Norton cheese at the White House, Elder John Leland suggested that everyone could help make a whopping big cheddar, a cheese so large that President Jefferson would be serving Cheshire cheese at the White House for years and years!
After gathering all the milk and making the cheese curds, they had to press the curds in an apple press. Finally they haul the cheese in a wagon to ripen in Elder John's barn. To get the cheese to President Jefferson's New Year's Day party, they have to put it on a sleigh and take it to Hudson, New York. Finally it sails down the Hudson River and is then carted on a sleigh to Washington.
Apparently, the cheese was served for years and someone said it lasted until 1805.
Just by the way, cheddar curds can't be beat. Give me the curds
instead of the pressed cheese any day!
Cute story for young cheese lovers.

Great for Reading to Younger Children.......2000-06-25
I have read this book to my two grandsons (Brooks nearly 4 and Pierce nearly 3 yrs old) and their interest and response to this book has been fun and surprising. The story interests them and the art illustrates the story very well. They enjoy finding the characters from the story in the associated pictures. Phineas Dobbs' grumbling has become an inside family joke. The boys go around the house often repeating his comment, "I told you, it can't be done!" while placing their arms across their chest.
The book has provoked them to ask many questions which has proved to be a good teaching opportunity as well.
They read everytime before naptime and bedtime and they have insisted that this book be included each time for about three weeks now. I highly recommend this book for reading to children 3 years old and up.
Serve Cheese!.......2000-06-18
After reading this book aloud to my second grade class, I served up different kinds of cheese! The kids loved it (since their mouths were watering for cheese after listening and seeing Schindler's tasty looking illustrations!).An outstanding slice of obscure history! Editor Melanie Kroupa is an expert at delivering great, obscure stories from history (see STEAMBOAT by Judith Heide Gilliland).Outstanding storytelling!
Hometown Tale.......2000-02-08
What makes this book so terrific for me is that I live in thetown adjacent to Cheshire, MA, and I have family that live inCheshire. We've always seen the cheese press in the center of town, but were only vaguely familiar with its history. Now, with this beautiful picture book, I can share the story with the children in my life. I wonder how Ms. Fleming, who lives in Chicago, happened upon this story?
