Great book. I am still reading and learning! Quick delivery and arrived in great shape!
THIS BOOK "SAVED MY MARRIAGE".......2004-04-02
There are three of you in a marriage. YOU, ME and US. All three need to be happy. This book can get you there. It saved our marriage.
A profound, important, and implication-rich book.......2002-02-07
For me this book is one of the most profound and important books I have ever read about relationships and communication. Although it is written as a book about marital relationships, it has implications for every kind of relationship, and not only intimate or dyadic ones. And, although it is written as a pop psychology book, I think it makes a real contribution to the social-scientific understanding of relationships and communication -- that is, it stands up well as a general model of communication and relationship. I think it is a great book and would be of great value not only to those trying to solve relationship problems but to those wanting to understand the ways in which self and relationship are intertwined in general. It illuminates all of the areas of one's life in which one communicates with others and, as another reader said, can be as valuable for understanding past relationships as for dealing with present ones.
Excellent, excellent book........2002-01-29
This book has really come to the rescue in my life. I am 24 and my partner 21. We've been together 8 months and started having conflicts after moving in together about 2 months ago. After a big fight one day, she brought this book home and we agreed to read it together every day.
Since then, there's been a massive change for us. A difficult change too, but so worthwhile. Margie and Jordan are really great people, and they make the book funny, informative and loving, but strong enough to shake you up. It's just so great... learning to learn is difficult, but ultimately incredibly rewarding. 1000 stars!
Buy this book!.......2000-09-23
If you are having conflicts in your relationship, I cannot recommend a better book for helping understand your own reactions to your partner's behavior. This book shed enormous light on my relationship. That relationship ultimately fell apart, but this book helped me to understand why.

Book Description
Freedom, the oldest of clichés and the most modern of aspirations, is the unifying theme in the new survey of American history by Eric Foner, the well-known historian and author of The Story of American Freedom. As the fundamental idea behind Americans' sense of themselves as individuals and as a nation, freedom is deeply embedded in the record of our history and the language of everyday life. Give Me Liberty! examines the changing meanings of freedom, the social conditions that make freedom possible, and its shifting boundaries from colonial times to the early twenty-first century.

Amazon's scamp in shipping.......2007-07-09
This rating is not about the book but it's about Amazon service. I ordered the book on 07/02/2007 and the book was not shipped until 07/09/2009. I received no email letting me know there is a delay in shipping. I am already behind in this class and I am having a test next monday 07/16/2007. I will have to buy a book in a local book store to study for the test. I am very disappointed w/ Amazon. I think they are playing this game to make you buy their shipping package. Very cheap and low tactic from Amazon...
A US History interesting book.......2006-11-06
It is a book that has all the facts of US History. It gives extra details to place every detail given in the right place. It is also very easy to read and would go along great with a lecture class. Personally I read this book with Howard Zinn side by side so I could get the facts and opinion at the same time. Very good book.

Book Description
Offering instructors and students a lower-price alternative to the regular editions of our leading textbooks, the Norton Seagulls feature inviting, clear designs that focus student attention on the texts themselves. These compact books are portable, affordable, and authoritative. The Seagull Edition of Eric Foner's Give Me Liberty! An American History contains the complete text of the regular edition. Acclaimed by instructors and students and adopted at hundreds of colleges and universities across the country, Give Me Liberty! provides a fresh and effective approach to the survey. Its single-author narrative gives students a clear, coherent introduction to American history. The theme of American freedom enriches the narrative, integrates the book's coverage of social and political history, and motivates the study of history by alerting students to how much is at stake in having a knowledge of our past. The book is supported by the same full array of print and electronic ancillaries as the regular edition.
Customer Reviews:
Decent amount of facts, but poorly written.......2007-07-24
Overall, this is a pretty poorly written book. Most of the important events are glossed over. The book is written in a list style, spending only one sentence on some important events and people, like the Glass-Steagal Act. World War I gets about 2 pages. Also, the organization leaves something to be desired. The author likes to skip around chronologically in favor of grouping by social, political, and economic topics. This works well in the case of the chapter on Progressivism, but fails elsewhere.
Written by only one author - most history textbooks have multiple authors - this books has the feel of getting only one viewpoint. Foner isn't even an expert in this time period; he writes about the Civil War and Reconstruction. There are much, much better US history textbooks out there. I would recommend American Pageant for this level (advanced high school, college survey).
grear History book.......2006-11-10
it holds american history in one volume, from Colon to 9/11
great price
this books is very easy to read and it comes with a code to get premium access to the editorial, with videos and a long interview with the authors about each chapter, really cool !
Excellent way to learn American History........2006-03-09
I am a foreign student, and this is the first time that I study American History. The Seagull Edition of this book is great because it has all the written information and appendix from the regular volume and it costed less than half. Some people might miss the colored pictures, the maps or the extra margens to right notes, but this edition fitted my budget and i am enjoying it anyway.
Regarding the content, the information is presented clearly and very complete.

Customer Reviews:
Why Can't You Just Give Me the Number.......2007-02-09
This is an excellent book and very well written. I purchased this book because I was impressed with Mr. Leach's writing in his papers. All I need now, is to get our senior management team to read this book. The other 5 star reviews on this page are most appropriate.
I'd love to have a beer with Patrick.
A perfect balance between theory and practical application.......2007-01-09
I've known Mr. Leach for several years now and have seen him in action before a class of business resources as well as facilitating project teams. In both settings a consultant/instructor must be aware of how he is communicating to the audience. Too basic and he will appear simplistic, too theoretical and he will seem academic. Mr. Leach walks this line extremely well. He is entertaining, insightful, and thought-provoking. These same attributes are applied to his book and it is truly a delight to read. The anecdotes ring true for the reader, and the concepts can be easily applied to the reader's experiences.
I highly recommend this book to those just getting started in probabilistic analysis as well as the experienced practitioner. It should also be required reading for the executive tasked with understanding the nuances of a project team's analysis.
Why Can't You Just Give Me the Number.......2006-12-01
This book is an excellent read, and covers a technical subject in an interesting often humorous way. This book should be read by all decision analysts and decision making executives/managers, its obvious intended target, but likewise should be read by everyone who is at risk in the world -- that's everybody.
Mr. Leach has provided a wealth of insights here that I haven't seen anywhere else. As well, his writing is clear, to the point, and doesn't waste your time. I guarantee any reader will find something, probably many things, to apply and benefit from in the future. The book will help all, even quality decision makers, uncover some of their own biases and weaknesses.
In summary, I am an independent consulting decision analyst (engineering background), and I was greatly impressed.
Insightful Rationale for Probabilistic Analysis and Potential Traps to Avoid.......2006-11-16
First, I'm biased because I've heard Mr. Leach speak (he's an excellent speaker) and I know him personally. He wrote the book because during his classes on decision analysis, participants consistently told him that they needed a book that they could give to their bosses that would explain on a high level what probabilistic analysis is all about and why it should be used. He has succeeded in meeting this objective - the book is very clear and is a good, interesting read. Mr. Leach has presented insights here that I've never seen expressed anywhere else and he concisely summarizes some very interesting research in a concise, readable way. I highly recommend this book for managers, executives, senior professionals, and decision analysts.

A Little Helpful.......2007-03-12
As the title hints, the case studies in the book are so outlandish as to make it hard to relate. My kid does some things that I would like him to stop doing, but I had already used most of the ideas suggested in this book (such as be a good role model). It was nice to see that my parenting instincts keep me going in the right direction, but I stopped reading it because of the almost cartoonish descriptions of misbehavior. I think maybe some people could get use out of the suggestions if they are not put off by the premise that their kid embodies every evil under the sun.
Not so great.......2007-01-09
This book talks more about describing the bad attitudes instead of simple, easy techniques to stop them. Not easy to use, not easy to read.
An action-oriented book for parents who are sick of ATTITUDE.......2004-04-20
What makes Michele Borba's books so successful -- and so inspiring -- is the action-oriented approach she takes to various parenting topics. In Don't Give Me That Attitude!, Michele provides detailed action plans for tackling everything from laziness to manipulation to selfishness. I was particularly impressed by the material on combating cruelty in kids and, having heard Michele speak on this issue at a recent parenting workshop, I know her call to action on this issue is very much from the heart. I predict that this is going to be one of the very best parenting books we see this year. An absolute must read!
Realistic & practical ways to boost kids' character........2004-04-04
I'm a real fan of Michele Borba's books so I must admit I've been waiting for Don't Give Me That Attitude! This one is one of her best. I'm a counselor and deal with kids with "attitudes" (though most parents would call them behavior problems) -- manipulative, defiant, cheating, arrogant, you name it. The problem is there really wasn't much out there in the way of specifics to help parents. But these makeovers for bad attitudes are realistic and specific. There are so many strategies and ideas .. checklists.. resources.. and stepby step guidelines. The only thing I'd caution a parent about is not to think you have to do it all. Just turn to the attitude you think needs tuning up -- and dig in. The book is a goldmine!~
Highly Recommended For All Parents.......2004-04-04
I've read all of Michele Borba's books. To me, she stands for the kind of parent I want to be: you can't just sit back and expect everything to go well. You have to get engaged and if there's a problem you have to deal with it. I love my kid -- he's great-- but he's been home lately with a back talking attitude. I couldn't believe his flippant tone and I didn't know how to deal with it. And then I picked up Borba's new book. The great part is that I was able to go to contents, find the attitude, and immediately turn to the section and get point by point steps to do to turn it around. It's been only three days, but I'm already seeing a big change in my child. I've read alot of other parent books. Most are so filled with theory and vague generalities. The great thing about Michele Borba's books is that they are very specific and action oriented and give you real live activities you can do. Try it and you'll see.

Book Description
Working as a correspondent for
20/20 and
Good Morning America, John Stossel confronted dozens of scam artists: from hacks who worked out of their basements to some of America's most powerful executives and leading politicians. His efforts shut down countless crooks -- both famous and obscure. Then he realized what the real problem was.
In Give Me a Break, Stossel takes on the regulators, lawyers, and politicians who thrive on our hysteria about risk and deceive the public in the name of safety. Drawing on his vast professional experience (as well as some personal ones), Stossel presents an engaging, witty, and thought-provoking argument about the beneficial powers of the free market and free speech.

"
Ballooning government?
Millionaire welfare queens?
Tort lawyers run amok?
A $330,000 outhouse, paid for with your tax dollars?
John Stossel says, ""Give me a break.""
When he hit the airwaves thirty years ago, Stossel helped create a whole new category of news, dedicated to protecting and informing consumers. As a crusading reporter, he chased snake-oil peddlers, rip-off artists, and corporate thieves, winning the applause of his peers.
But along the way, he noticed that there was something far more troublesome going on: While the networks screamed about the dangers of exploding BIC lighters and coffeepots, worse risks were ignored. And while reporters were teaming up with lawyers and legislators to stick it to big business, they seldom reported the ways the free market made life better.
In Give Me a Break, Stossel explains how ambitious bureaucrats, intellectually lazy reporters, and greedy lawyers make your life worse even as they claim to protect your interests. Taking on such sacred cows as the FDA, the War on Drugs, and scaremongering environmental activists -- and backing up his trademark irreverence with careful reasoning and research -- he shows how the problems that government tries and fails to fix can be solved better by the extraordinary power of the free market.
He traces his journey from cub reporter to 20/20 co-anchor, revealing his battles to get his ideas to the public, his struggle to overcome stuttering, and his eventual realization that, for years, much of his reporting missed the point.
Stossel concludes the book with a provocative blueprint for change: a simple plan in the spirit of the Founding Fathers to ensure that America remains a place ""where free minds -- and free markets -- make good things happen.""

Customer Reviews:
Great book - really makes you think.......2007-09-11
This is a great book. In his wonderful style, Stossel subjects commonly-held assumptions, common scams, scares, and media lies, the government, and a lot of other stuff to whithering skepticism. Discover why everything you know (or, at least, a lot of it) is wrong.
It's funny how people are willing to be very skeptical of businesses but aren't willing to turn that same skepticism on the government. Stossel manages to do that and argues that the expansion of the government hurts consumers much more than it helps them. A lot of people have this idea of a benevolent government saving us from big, bad industry, but this isn't true at all, as Stossel quiet ably shows.
I'd recommend ignoring the one-star reviews of this book. Stossel answers most of their "objections" in the book, and one of the reasons he wrote this book was to refute a lot of those types of claims.
This book is a must-read for those who are concerned about the expansion of the state. Then again, if you're not concerned, you should definitely read this book, because this book shows that you should be. This book shows how government regulation hurts consumers by raising prices, stifling innovation, and much more. Gives plenty of examples of government stupidity. This book is great reading and provides an excellent introduction to many of the key ideas of the libertarian philosophy of government. This book is very well written and highly entertaining; there's not a dull moment to be found. Highly recommended.
Worthwhile Read.......2007-09-07
As someone who has been in the media for more than 20 years, and has developed a niche in debunking the horribly inaccurate, irresponsible and downright sloppy use of statistics in the media and beyond, this book was a refreshing piece of common-sense journalism. I highly recommend it especially to anyone considering a career, or already embarked on a career, in journalism or any communications endeavor.
Quick and Easy Read, But Arguments are Weak.......2007-03-30
When I first began reading this book, I thought I might enjoy it. After all, John Stossel is (or was) a leading consumer reporter with some excellent credentials to his name. However, by the end of the first third of the book I was already lowering the number of stars I planned to give it.
The first problem I encountered was writing that was simplistic. For someone who is a journalist and who graduated from Princeton, I expected the writing to be more professional. I can't tell whether he "dumbed" the book down or if this is the way he usually writes. Either way, it is a simplistic (and very quick) read.
The second, and by far larger problem, is the argument he puts forth in the book. He claims to be a "free market" advocate, yet throughout the book he stumbles on his own argument. His argument is that in a free market, industry will always do things for the best, since it is in their best interest to increase profits.
Because of that argument, he strikes out against government intervention. One example he gives is OSHA. While OSHA is not a well loved agency, the reason for their existence is exactly to opposite of what Stossel claims. Worker's compensation laws were passed in the early part of the 20th century to get business to stop injuring workers. Industry, however, continued to allow unsafe work conditions and worker injury rates continued to climb. OSHA was the result of the inaction of industry. They didn't do what was right...they did what was cheap.
In another example, he rants about mandatory airbags in cars. He is against the notion of paying for them when you don't want one, and claims that over a roughly 10 year time frame air bags have killed over 200 people. He leaves out how many (thousands?) were saved that would have died had air bags not been present in the vehicles. A short while later, he stumbles on his own argument again when he discusses vaccine manufacturers. He claims that they are going out of business because of lawsuits brought due to injury to children from the vaccines. He then makes the point that, because a few children got sick the number of manufacturers is falling, which jeopardizes the many. The question becomes, which is it? Do you want to save the many at the sacrifice of the few or vice versa?
I could go on for pages, but that isn't really the point to a review.
There are places in the book where I agree with his arguments and they make sense. There are government agencies that are redundant and ineffective.
Overall, I don't think the book is worth the purchase price. I would recommend getting it from the library or a yard sale if you are inclined to read it.
The bravest journalist in the mainstream today.......2007-03-29
You may recall I mentioned that John Stossel addressed our NH Liberty Forum in February (2007) as the banquet keynote speaker. I lamented then that I had not been properly appreciative of the courageous work of this noble contrarian knight of the mainstream media (M2).
He is after all an explicit libertarian (possibly even a Randian). In Give Me a Break, Stossel writes that his liberal peers and audience regard him as "that [damnable] conservative on ABC." To which he counters:
"I'm hardly what I would call a conservative. I happen to think consenting adults should be able to do just about anything they want. I think prostitution should be permitted. I believe homosexuality is perfectly natural, that the drug war should be ended, that flag burning and foul language should be tolerated, and most abortion should be legal."
He continues, asserting that M2 is tilted so far to the left, they still call him a conservative:
"Libertarian is a better term for my beliefs. But the term [is misinterpreted.] Maybe 'classical liberal' is a better term for what I am. Liberals were originally the ones who advocated freedom and tolerance. Not lately."
He also opposes pseudo-conservativism, skillfully dissecting our current Republican/Neocon brand of crony capitalism and its imperial-fascist excesses with his intellectual scalpel.
Stossel is the real deal, a popular media personality-the weekly viewership of 20/20 is somewhere around 20 million-who lays it on the line for rational liberty. And he gets his facts straight. He has to because when he doesn't all the poseurs he has pissed off form a lynch mob calling for his head.
Some of the sacred cows he slays:
. Business regulation by government-e.g. OSHA, the
FDA, the FTC, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),
child labor laws, and so on, all radically harmful.
. Scaring ourselves with false threats-Brain cancer from
cellphones, exploding Bic pens, toxic waste cause minimal
damage compared to smoking, obesity, and poverty.
. Expensive government bureaucracies-e.g. the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that wastes
billions. TSA stands for "thousands standing around."
. The organic food hoax-Food from regular farms treated
with artificial pesticides is generally as good or better for you
than 100% organic food.
. Welfare for the rich--Millionaire sports franchise owners
receive $700 million stadiums. Federal flood insurance bails
out rich people, including Stossel, who build on the ocean.
"Law grinds the poor, and rich men rule the law."-Oliver Goldsmith

Very enjoyable.......2007-02-27
If you like John Stossel's journalism, you'll like this book. If you don't like his journalism, then you won't like this book. The same goes for his other book. I too am glad that Stossel narrated the audiobook himself.
I have been very disappointed with the subtitle of the book, which calls him "the Scourge of the Liberal Media", because it implies that Stossel is conservative, which he is not. It also implies that he is not liberal, which he is... in the original sense of the word (i.e. one who believes in liberty).

Customer Reviews:
Unquestionably, Anne Graham Lotz knows how to leave one knowing they are loved by the God of the universe........2007-09-14
I read this quite a while ago; It was my first book by this author. I never forgot her, either. Then I saw her on T.V. one day, and I noticed that her eyes were on fire by the Holy Spirit, and her adoration of the Lord encompassed every word she spoke. This author is genuine, and her writings have a tender way in which they woo and lull the reader into a deeper walk with Jesus. I simply love everything Anne Graham Lotz writes. Thank you Anne, for making our tumultuous world easier to bear with your sweet words.

This book is incredible!! It's the first book I have read of Anne Graham Lotz and it will not be the last. I love her writing and relate to her on so many levels! The more I learn about Jesus, the more I agree with Anne - Jesus is all I want and all I need!
Excellent if you are serious about your faith.......2006-08-09
I loved this book. It gave me so many other views of how a true Christian should follow after Jesus. It was an eye opener when it came to the world view versus a Christian view of life and the tribulations that comes along with it. I am so blessed to have read this book, and highly recommend it for ALL women of faith that is struggling with their purpose and why God created them. Just Give Me Jesus is all about a woman's purpose and her role in society. Anne Graham Lotz hit it right on the point. I am a changed woman because of this book. Jennifer Rankins
Video tape "Just give me Jesus".......2005-09-07
The Tape was good and sent in good time. Thank you.
Brings John to LIfe.......2003-08-08
Anne Graham Lotz gives a discussion based on several passages from the Gospel of John. The book is not an acedemic study of John, but a series of sermons on life based on what she sees in Christ through these passages of scripture. It is well written and inspirational, excellent for personal devotional reading.

Book Description
Kay Arthur’s Newest “Lord” Book Examines The
Anatomy Of A Heart for God Through Paul’s Eyes.
Throughout his ministry the Apostle Paul was criticized, opposed, and attacked. He wrestled with his weaknesses. He struggled with fragile relationships. He was often weary, tired, and discouraged.
Kay Arthur knows there are times when you can identify with Paul's experience. You feel overwhelmed by conflicts without and fears within. You yearn to experience the God of wisdom and power. You, like Paul, want deeply to be a person whose sole passion is to please God.
In this study based on 2 Corinthians, Kay examines the anatomy of a heart for God. What it looks like. What it feels like. And how you can strengthen your own relationship with God.
Despite the deep physical, emotional, and spiritual pain of life, Paul could rest in the God of all comfort and strength. He could walk in obedience to his calling. He could fight the good fight, finish his race, and keep the faith.
And now, through this compelling, insightful, and moving Bible study, so can you.
“What does a heart for God look like when lived out in flesh and blood in the daily circumstances of life? As we walk together through 2 Corinthians, Acts, and other portions of Scripture, we'll begin to understand what it's like to have a heart like His.” –Kay Arthur
THE “LORD” SERIES by Kay Arthur is an insightful, warm-hearted Bible study series designed to meet you where you are–and help you discover God’s answers to your deepest needs.

There is no perfect answer to conflict in relationships...but this is a very good system for looking deeper and getting honest about what the underlying problems could be.
Connecting with your higher self made simple & fast.......2001-08-20
BUY IT FIRST !!! OK, probably like you, I have bookshelves full of books that I thought would help me identify my issues/self limiting beliefs, understand where they came from and deal with them. This of course comes after giving up on stockpiling books about how to change others to get what you want. Finally you realize YOU need to give YOU what you want to be happy, but how? By page 30 of this EASY TO READ book, the essential ideas of tons of other books on the subject have been covered, simply and QUICKLY. It's like someone plowed through all the available info on the subject, distilled it for people with short attention spans and leads you simply and quickly to the points that you need to get, speaking directly and understandably to you. Written by husband/wife team who discuss very openly what their issues were in getting to the place we all want to get to (Part 1). Part 2 is how to inventory and deal with your own stuff. I could have saved a ton of money, frustration and time, had I bought this one first. Think I'll take their seminar as well, regardless of location or cost. These folks have it nailed and have made it as easy as it's going to get. If you are tired of [working with] this stuff, getting a little here and a little there and just want to finally get it done, then I highly recommend this book. Get this, the WORKBOOK version... that is if you are ready to DO your work and quit reading up on it.
