Book Description
You have good reason to be afraid. . . .
It was a case that haunts Bobby Dodge to this day—the case that nearly killed him and changed his life forever. Now, in an underground chamber on the grounds of an abandoned Massachusetts mental hospital, the gruesome discovery of six mummified corpses resurrects his worst nightmare: the return of a killer he thought dead and buried. There’s no place to run. . . . Bobby’s only lead is wrapped around a dead woman’s neck. Annabelle Granger has been in hiding for as long as she can remember. Her childhood was a blur of new cities and assumed identities. But what—or who—her family was running from, she never knew. Now a body is unearthed from a grave, wearing a necklace bearing Annabelle’s name, and the danger is too close to escape. This time, she’s not going to run. You know he will find you. . . .
The new threat could be the dead psychopath’s copycat, his protégé—or something far more terrifying. Dodge knows the only way to find him is to solve the mystery of Annabelle Granger, and to do that he must team up with his former lover, partner, and friend D. D. Warren from the Boston P.D. But the trail leads back to a woman from Bobby’s past who may be every bit as dangerous as the new killer—a beautiful survivor-turned-avenger with an eerie link to Annabelle. From its tense opening pages to its shocking climax,
Hide is a thriller that delves into our deepest, darkest fears. Where there is no one to trust. Where there is no place left to hide.
Customer Reviews:
A must read.......2007-10-04
This is one of the best books I've read this year. A book I could relate to, and could not put down. What Russell did for his daughter, I know many of us would do the same for ours. At one point there were tears rolling down my face. A must read for 2007.
Unguessable!.......2007-08-26
Annabelle Granger has spent her whole life on the run and she doesn't even know what she has been running from. While she was growing up her father uprooted the family every 12-18 months to keep her safe from a threat but he never told her what exactly that threat was. And now, with her parents both dead, there is little chance of her ever finding all the answers. After all the family name changes, she doesn't even know what her real name is. Is it really Annabelle Granger?
A grave is found on the site of an old abandoned mental hospital containing 6 murdered girls, one of whom has a bracelet with 'Annabelle Granger' on, one that Annabelle remembers finding gift wrapped on her doorstep when she was a child, before all the family moves. She goes to the police to let them know that she is alive and well. They have as many questions about her life as she does and it's a rush to find the answers - who killed the girls, was this person the threat that her father tried to save Annabelle from, and is Annabelle still at risk?
This is a truly fantastic thriller. Annabelle is so unsure of her identity it is almost like she is trying to deal with amnesia. In finding out who she is she has to find out who she can trust and that entails letting down her guard, something her father has trained her never to do. I kept thinking that I had worked out who Annabelle was and who the threat was and then there was another twist and I was back at square one again. I like an author who can keep it fresh and keep me guessing and Lisa Gardner certainly did that for me in "Hide". I can't wait for her next book.
Not her writing.......2007-08-09
This of course is the sequel of "Alone" and I'll ask the same question: where's the plot? After read so many excellent books written by LG like: "The Other Daughter", "The Next Accident", "The Survivorss Club", "The Perfect Husband" among many others I'd think that LG didn't wrote these two stories. I cant't believe that after writing so many books that you can't close she wrote this kind of gibberish. I'm still a great LG's fan and I'll be waiting for the next one. But this surely is not her kind of writing.
Don't Let This Book Hide at the Bottom of Your Yet to Read Pile!.......2007-08-05
Have read a few of Gardner's books and this is easily the best of them. One of those books was Alone which also had a few of the characters from this novel. Although this novel could easily be read as a standalone novel I would recommend reading Alone first as paragraphs in Hide do give away key plot points of that novel. You'll also have a greater understanding of the characters who are back again if you read Alone first. They are both great reads.
I actually don't know why Gardner didn't just use fresh characters as the plot from Alone paid no real part for Hide's plot but as I said by using that novel's characters she does give away parts of that storyline and ultimately some of the reader's enjoyment if they chose to read that after.
In Hide ex sniper but still Massachusetts state cop Bobby Dodge is contacted by his ex, who is homicide detective for the city. She takes him on a tour of a new crime scene where six mummified little girls are found in an underground chamber on an ex mental hospital's grounds. Annabelle Granger's father has had her changing identities for most of her life and upon learning one of the victims was wearing a necklace with her original name on it she decides to tell the police the bizarre tale of her life. Soon it becomes apparent the necklace used to be hers, she gave it to her childhood friend who disappeared not long after her family did. Was she meant to be the victim? Is this killer what her father had her family running from?
Hide is a great read! I will definitely check out other Gardner novels.
Plenty of twists and turns!.......2007-08-02
I really enjoyed this book. I have read a number of Lisa Gardner novels and I believe that "Hide" is the best. There were plenty of twists and turns but still the author kept the main character, Annabelle, at the center of this wonderful mystery. I won't go into detail about the book as there are many already, except to add that the plot is exciting and the story will keep you turning pages. I think one of the most accurate aspects of the book was that the characters are well developed and the conclusion didn't leave any loose ends. This is a wonderful, suspenseful mystery that I would recommend.
Another mystery novel that will draw you completely into the story is The Monopoly Factor by Robert L. Saunders. Beware! You may stay up till 2am reading this thrilling story. Saunders writing is wonderfully smooth and the text flows with such supple and natural ease in this story of corporate deceit, greed and murder. There's a bit of romance between Barry and Susan and you can't help but root for them all the way through this exciting mystery. You won't be disappointed. Have a good read.

Fun book every time we read it!.......2007-07-19
This book is so cute as you peek a boo look for mommy on each page. What a cute and fun book the kids love this one everytime!
Oooooh, where is she?!!!.......2007-04-17
Toddlers will love this fun story. It has a hint of mystery as Baby searches for its Mommy. This is a unique way to teach kids the process of elimination as the illustrations rule out each place where Baby's Mommy is not hiding in anticipation of the exciting reunion between Baby and Mommy.
Excellent.......2006-11-11
Though my Son likes books of all kinds, he absolutely loves this and other Karen Katz lift-the-flap books. The illustrations are so simple, colorful and bright. After having read it a zillion times, he still is not tired of smiling everytime he finds mommy!
Where is Baby's Mommy?.......2006-08-07
My 20-month daughter absolutely loves this book. Lifting all the flaps and being suprised everytime to see what is behind them. Always when she finds the Mommy I say " There's mommy" she looks at me with her big brown eyes and says "NO" and points to me and says "Mommy". The book is absolutely ADORABLE.

Solid........2007-08-25
I spent years reading these guys research, and in this book, they have put it all together in one handy volume. The book cites a lot of studies from the academic research and does get technical. In fact, I know some physical therapists that have gotten lost reading it! Therefore, potential buyers should know that the book is mainly for people who are in the medical profession that specialize in spine problems.
As a treatment for spinal problems, spinal stabilization exercise is a solid, evidence-based treatment and quite effective. Also recommemd Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff for both laypeople and medical folk alike- strengthening the rotator cuff does for the shoulder what strengthening the multifidus does for the spine.
great book for lower back problems.......2007-01-20
this book, although a little technical, shows what happens in injured lower backs and then proceeds to describe a proven strategy to heal lower backs. I was amazed at the information presented in this book... I thought I knew everything there is to know about backs, having been an athlete all my life and having been a somatic therapist & Yoga teacher for the past 20 years. Well I learned a lot more and I even applied the material to my own back with great results with very little work... I also feel a lot more confident about teaching my clients how to take care of their backs...

Customer Reviews:
Good Suspense Book (3 1/2).......2007-10-10
This book did not have the intensity that "Die for Me" had, but it was good. The main characters (Tess and Aidan) were okay. There were a few things that were repeated in the book, a few slow areas, and added twists/events that were probably included to spruce up the book.
I recommend this author's "Die for Me." It was INTENSE and a wonderful read!
Three words... A... Ma.... Zing.... (yes I know it's one word...it's a joke!).......2007-10-04
I can't say enough good things about this book. Karen Rose is masterful at telling a story, bringing her characters to life and leaving nothing to chance... period. This story is gripping and very easy to follow. It's entertaining and flows like water. Or maybe like a river of blood!!!!
This is a taut thriller with Tess at the center of a mystery bigger than life and death. Why are her patients dying?
Karen Rose is new to me, but she is here to stay. She is a writer with a HUGE future still ahead of her... even after the monster success she's already enjoyed. I can't wait to read more of her work!
Not my favorite, but a fun read.......2007-03-27
At times a little repetitive, a little slow, sometimes a little cliche...but the mystery behind all those deaths and the complex serial killer Karen Rose gave life too keeps you turning the pages , dying to find out what set all that into motion. Fun read.
An Exciting Rollercoaster Ride . . . .......2007-01-29
with more twists and turns than you can fathom! Truly one of the best mysteries that I've read in a very long time. The author does an excellent job of keeping you guessing not only from page to page but from paragraph to paragraph. I honestly had no clue who the ultimate villian was. I can't wait to read more books by this talented writer.
Chilling first rate read.......2007-01-09
Someone is encouraging the patients of Dr. Tess Ciccotelli to commit suicide, and all clues lead police to the doctor herself. Estranged from her family and already considered a pariah by police since her testimony made sure a cop killer did not stand trial due to insanity, they don't want to clear her just yet. But the coincidences are just that, and someone with a grudge wants to see Tess not only stripped of her job, but her freedom too.
When detective Aidan Regan starts to suspect that she is the pawn in a sadistic killer's game of vengeance, he vows to protect the woman that on one hand he dislikes, and on the other he desires. As the two are drawn to each other, and she escapes the traps the killer has set, it becomes an even deadlier game as friends and acquaintances are suddenly being targeted. Will they be able to figure out who hates Tess enough to commit murder before she becomes the next victim or has a chance to reconcile with the family she loves and misses so much?
Rose's latest is yet another first rate romantic suspense, guaranteed to have you biting your nails right down to the cuticle. With plenty of potential suspects and a few plot surprises, the duo of Tess and Aidan burn up the pages and make this nearly 500 pager go quickly. It begs the question, can Rose write a mediocre novel? Doesn't appear so.

Finish it...if you can.......2006-12-19
I read a lot of mystery books and Patterson is one of my favs. But this book just didn't hold my interest. Wouldn't recommend.
Patterson can do better.......2006-12-19
This book reads like a mediocre Lifetime movie.
Maggie Bradford is a rather cliched character that lives a very surrealistic existence. Quite honestly, she is a fairly unsympathetic protagonist.
Will Shepherd is a fascinating character that keeps this novel from being a complete waste of time. He's a womanizing, crude, violent, worldwide superstar.
While on the World's stage as one of the most well known athletes, he manages to lead a rather turbulent existence that leaves him alienated from the rest of the world. Through bad relationships and a brother he has to blackmail to keep quiet about his dark side, Will is a lost and depressed human being that is incapable of finding peace from within.
He looks to Maggie Bradford to save him from his despair, but he finds that she is not the anecdote for what poisons him. It is at this point that Maggie finds history repeating itself for her and her troubled relationships.
James, James, James, I Didn't Know You Were a Lifetime Fan!.......2006-08-23
Okay, some of the other reviewers are a bit harsh, but this book wasn't THAT bad. Then again, it wasn't that great either. It's not very original or unpredictable, but it gets three stars because yours truly wasn't bored. You can't really give a book a bad review if it wasn't boring or truly horrible. That said, I'll sum it up for those of you who haven't read it:
Maggie Bradford is, more or less, an overly dramatic version of Carly Simon--you know--the kind of singer/songwriter they'd put in a Lifetime storyline, and Will Shepherd is an English soccer playing psycho version of one of her former flames...let's pick Warren Beatty. Will's a demonic, lecherous, bad tempered creep with homocidal tendencies who thinks Maggie and her music can save him. In other words, he's so vain he probably thinks her songs are about him. Okay, joke aside, I'm surprised this wasn't turned into a Lifetime movie at some point. Pass, and give me the Women's Murder Club instead.
Awesome.......2006-04-05
I am home recovering from surgery and I have purchased 30 of James Patterson's books after reading Mary Mary on the airplane. I have the DVD's of Kiss The Girls and Along Came a Spider and I had not read any of his books. I am hooked. His short expense filled chapters are wonderful. I encourage everyone to read this author's works, they will not regret it. This book was awesome, I have not been disappointed yet. All 30 are great. I am waiting for Judge and Jury and then I have them all. The Angel series, the Alex Cross and the Women's Club series are just awesome. Get them and read them, you wont be disappointed.
A Real Thriller.......2006-03-18
This has to be one of the most exciting thrillers I have ever read. Just when you think you have it all figured out, James Patterson comes out of left field with another twist.
I was mentally exhausted by the end of the book!

Customer Reviews:
PRIVACY CRISIS is an exceptional privacy reference tool. A must read for 2007........2007-04-12
PRIVACY CRISIS was written by an author who has proved that through diligence, effort and a working knowledge of the system, one can have privacy in their life.
Grant Hall has opened new doors for those of us who previously believed that the road to financial privacy must be traveled by transferring assets to offshore 'havens' in an attempt to control our assets. In fact, Hall uses business resources that cater to the privacy seeker combined with knowledge of the financial system and negotiating skills to keep bank and brokerage funds hidden from those who may want to find them. Hall recommends using a company that rents safe deposit boxes without identification, tax i.d. or Social Security numbers-not even a name for those who want total secrecy. There's examples of cashing checks that leave no trail to the payee. Hold assets and property in total secrecy. These methods were eye openers for me.
I liken this book to an information enemy to the powers that want to control freedom loving Americans. Those who choose to become invisible to identity thieves, stalkers, private eyes can do it by practicing Hall's principles in PRIVACY CRISIS.
This is the best book on the subject I have read and I highly recommend it to those who desire personal privacy.
PRIVACY CRISIS provides information on banking secrecy in the U.S.A........2007-03-22
I have completed Privacy Crisis and this book answered many questions about privacy and the challenges we face today.
Grant Hall has covered all of the important money privacy issues and it is possible to make your assets and money disappear through the application of the principles outlined in the book. And this can be done in the U.S.A. What a break from the other authors who guide readers toward offshore banks and advise giving control to others.
I appreciate the attention to detail. Obviously, Hall has walked where other privacy writers have never gone. I would highly recommend this book to those who fear their bank accounts will be stolen or seized by government agencies or others. Thorough, complete and worth the money many times over, Privacy Crisis will become a big deal in the arena of Privacy Reference books.
This book may be the greatest investment a person could make to escape the threats of stalkers, identity thieves or others who wish you harm.
Buy this book.
Worth a Hundred Times the Price.......2007-03-02
Personal privacy is under siege these days. Mine was first invaded when cyber-crooks drained my checking account in a single day. If you don't take steps to protect yours, it too will go up in smoke. For you, maybe it's when an obsessed former spouse or fan starts stalking you. Or the government--claiming "national security"--begins wiretapping your phone. Maybe it's when your employer snoops on all your emails, a gumshoe rifles through your credit files, or you have to supply your most personal information just to open a checking account or buy a home.
You don't have to give up your God-given privacy. Believe me, this book will tell you everything you'll ever need to know about how to protect it--whether in just one area, or an entirely anonymous lifestyle. This author knows his stuff. He's practiced everything he writes about. So his book is far in advance of other privacy books that just recycle armchair theories or even worse, suggest you do things that are outright illegal.
Protect your identity. Protect the privacy of your home and business transactions--your computer, phone, mail, travel, bank account, stored items, credit files, hard assets, and investments. One invasion of your privacy will cost you ten or a hundred times the price of this one-of-a-kind book.
I wish I'd known about it before they emptied my bank account.
A timely guide to preventing stalking and identity theft.......2007-01-26
During this era of skyrocketing identity theft crimes, violence and death to innocent victims by stalkers, and government's tracking and monitoring of citizens' business, money and communication, Americans are seeking privacy for personal security and survival. Grant Hall writes on how to live an anonymous lifestyle in his new book, Privacy Crisis: Identity Theft Prevention Plan and Guide to Anonymous Living. And he should know. He used a non-traditional 'defense' to avoid a civil court case by disappearing for four years. A number of privacy tactics outlined in Privacy Crisis belong to Hall. I have never seen these in print-and I began reading privacy books prior to the publication of W.G. Hill's first PT book. Privacy Crisis may be the best book of its kind ever written.
According to Hall, privacy living is the answer to preventing identity theft. One can escape from a stalker or disappear-for any reason by using the information in Privacy Crisis. Alternate identification, renting and owning a home in secrecy, driving and working under the radar and establishing a clandestine communication and computer system are covered in detail. This book is thorough and complete and cites case histories and challenges the author of 'How to be Invisible' on the use of nominees.
Hall provides insight on anonymous banking, cashing checks privately, alternate name debit cards and provides a resource for obtaining a safe deposit box requiring no name or Social Security number. There's information on how to keep investments, property and businesses a secret. All of this can be accomplished in the U.S.A. of all places-a welcome change from the many books offering unrealistic, inconvenient, expensive, offshore remedies for domestic privacy problems.
A Must-read for Privacy-conscious Americans!.......2007-01-14
It goes without saying that personal privacy is a rare commodity in America today. Identity theft has become the country's fastest growing crime. Con artists relentlessly target us while greedy lawyers and vengeful ex-spouses threaten to drain our bank accounts and assets. Our personal computers have become open doors into the most discreet corners of our lives. And that doesn't begin to address threats to our privacy from the government, eavesdropping employers, nosey snoops with hidden agendas, eavesdropping employers, and increasingly intrusive marketing-crazed companies.
Privacy Crisis is easily one of the best books on privacy ever written. Through his eye-opening inside perspective, as someone who evaded private investigators and attorneys for four years by living "below the radar," Grant Hall has brought us an authoritative how-to guide for the average American who wants to protect his or her privacy on an practical level. Far superior to the many theory-laden books on privacy, Privacy Crisis is a revealing step-by-step manual written by someone who has walked the walk. This book is required reading for anyone concerned about their personal and financial privacy in an ever-threatening society.

Ian Rankin/Inspector Rebus take Hide and Seek to a new level........2007-04-28
I have to say that I wasn't sure what to think of this book, especially since I'm not a big fan of mystery/detective books, but I read Ian's first book in the series and enjoyed it so I thought I'd see if he could keep my interest on the second......and boy did he!!!! It still boggles my mind how Ian writes a 210 page book with so many twist and turns and yet it never feels like he has to rush to finish the story. I guess what I'm saying is that this book flows extremely well for having so much going on and yet it only takes him 210 pages to wrap up the story! Inspector Rebus continues to grow as the main character in this book and he has a great mix of "hard edge attitude", the ability to "turn on the charm", and yet still be human and have "weak" moments as well. It also helps that Ian has added some side characters from the police force to help readers undertsand how John Rebus interacts with his fellow co-workers (on and off the job). If you are new to this series, get the first book (Knots and Crosses) then get this book. However, you will be fine buying this book even if you didn't read the first one. Either way, you won't regret it.....I sure didn't.
Disappointing.......2007-03-12
I couldn't get into this book. I didn't think the characters were very interesting and I really couldn't get too excited about the plot. Perhaps I found the characters too pathetic. Also, this was my first Rebus book and I must say, I don't like him much as a character. Some of the description about Edinburgh was interesting but I guess I just found the book too sordid, too boring.
Not too impressed.......2006-12-02
Stop reading this if you have not read the novel, because a spoiler follows.I sure have read a lot of great comments about Ian Rankin. Comparisons to Michael Connely caused me to search him out. Not in the same league in my book. A so so story with a hard to believe plot. Does every wealthy man in Edinburgh enjoy wathcing underage junkies beat the heck out of each other and then have sex with them or watch their buddies do so? They sure are having a gay old time in Rankin's sordid Edinburgh. I liked the Rebus character, but I don't plan to seek him out again.
I somehow missed this one.......2005-09-13
While living in Spain, I had to get most of my books from Amazons UK site. That is how I discovered this author. I thought I had read all his Ins. Rebus novels, but missed this and found it here. It is as good as the rest. I have never been dissapointed in his stories. Some are weaker than others, but none have I not enjoyed. It was nice reading this one as it gave me more background on Rebus' past.
He is a very well fleshed out character, with a very intriguing personality. Rankin also describes Edinborough very well, and gives a very good impression of the city.
If you haven't read a Rebus novel, do. If possible start with the earliest and go in order, as his background develops with each novel.
Highly recommended
On hunting a modern-day Mr. Hyde........2004-03-09
He had wanted to update Robert Louis Stevenson's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" for modern times, Ian Rankin writes about his first Inspector Rebus novel, "Knots and Crosses" in the introduction to the 1999 British compilation "Rebus: The Early Years" (unfortunately not available in the U.S.), which contains the first three installments of the series. Oblivious to the mere existence of such a thing as the mystery genre - or so Rankin says - he was stunned to soon hear his book described first and foremost as a crime novel. But eventually this characterization prompted him to have a closer look at the work of other mystery writers, and he found that the form suited his purposes just fine; that in fact he "could say everything [he] wanted to say about the world, and still give readers a pacy, gripping narrative."
Bearing in mind the original duality of Jekyll and Hyde, however, Rankin's tales are not dominated by a contrast painted in black and white. While the villains Inspector Rebus faces are certainly every bit as evil as Stevenson's Mr. Hyde, Rebus himself is far from a clean-slated "good guy:" Divorced, cynical, hard-drinking and a former member of the SAS, he is a brother in spirit to every noir detective from Dashiell Hammett's Sam Spade and Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe to Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch, James Ellroy's squad of crooked cops and Peter Robinson's Alan Banks. Nor is Rebus's Edinburgh the touristy town of Calton Hill, castle and Summer Festival (although the series has meanwhile sparked real-life guided tours to its most famous locations, too) - as befitting a true detective of his ilk, Rankin's antihero moves primarily in the city's dark and dirty underbelly, which is populated by society's losers and where those who have "made it," those with money in their pockets, only show up if they have shady deals to conduct as well.
The title of Rankin's second Rebus novel, "Hide and Seek," is an even more overt play on Robert Louis Stevenson's famous dual character(s) than the mere juxtaposition of cop and killer in "Knots and Crosses;" and when the villain's identity is finally unveiled, the parallels between this book and Stevenson's become even more obvious. Here, Rebus is on the hunt for the killer of a junkie whose half-naked body is found in a run-down, deserted building in the Pilmuir housing estates - the worst part of town, notwithstanding a nearby construction project involving high-priced luxury condominiums - positioned crucifixion-style and near a drawing possibly hinting at Satanic rituals. And Rebus's only witness seems to be the young woman who had been living with the dead man for the last three months and heard him yell "Hide!" before pushing her out of the door, telling her: "They've murdered me;" but who is now more than just a little reluctant to cooperate, taking refuge, instead, behind an almost unbreakable rebel-against-society-facade, complete with peroxide hair, stud earrings and Attitude with a capital "A."
While this series had a terrific start already in its first two novels, published in 1987 and 1991, Rebus's character - and Rankin's writing - has evolved significantly over time. Thus, it is probably wise to read it in the order of publication. Contrary to the novels he wrote under the pseudonym Jack Harvey, however, and which he views much more critically in hindsight, Ian Rankin overall still seems to be happy with his early Rebus books, commenting: "I can't read them without thinking back to my own early years, my apprenticeship as a crime writer. Read and enjoy." I have nothing to add to that ...

In Hide Your Assets and Disappear, a master gumshoe gives some straight information about how to cover your trail and protect your money from the government and creditors. Edmund J. Pankau, a writer and acclaimed private investigator, believes that individual rights, privacy, and benefits are slowly eroding in the United States, but that there are ways--legal and illegal--to beat the authorities. "The choice is yours to make," writes Pankau, "Don't be the one that someday says, 'I wish I could have done that.'"
Pankau despises domestic tax laws. He urges people to hire a good attorney to help plan a move offshore to a sunny clime with low taxes, bank-privacy rules, and simpler, cheaper living. He recommends New Zealand, Belize, Costa Rica, and Honduras, where the island of Roatan is his own personal hideaway. And for those who truly need to disappear, Pankau explains how amazingly easy it is to obtain a second or third passport, become a new person or stage a phony death.
Pankau is also a powerful advocate for asset-protection planning. The book features some nifty moves to block creditors with bankruptcy laws. There are also methods to maximize state and federal tax exemptions and maneuvers to shield a personal residence, real estate, stocks, or pension accounts from taxes and potential creditors or lawsuits.
The book is for hard-core freedom seekers. It's also recommended for people interested in more conventional techniques for protecting money, property, and other valuables. --Dan Ring
Book Description
A New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller!
Are you tired of the way you're living? Are you fed up with everyone trying to take your most valuable possessions--your money and assets--away? Are you sick of having creditors, the IRS, or a vindictive ex-spouse nipping at your heels? If only you could disappear without a trace...if only you could resurface in some exotic foreign place with a whole new identity and a brand-spanking new life.
And on the other side, how would you like to track down that ex (and his assets) who owes you money? Want to know his tricks?
For most people, this is just a fantasy. But it doesn't have to be. In Hide Your Assets and Disappear, one of the nation's top-ten-rated private investigators, Edmund J. Pankau, reveals all the tricks of his trade to show you how to hide it all or find someone who has. An experienced tracker who has worked for the government to recover missing assets, Pankau explains step-by-step how to successfully get away or find someone who has.
Filled with vivid real-life stories of both successes and failures as well as an Internet research guide, this invaluable guide outlines exactly what you should know before you go, including the ever-increasing difficulties you will face as the world becomes more tightly linked through electronic networks. Pankau shows you how to pay attention to prevent slip-ups that can give you away, from birthday phone calls to magazine subscriptions to an off-the-cuff comment to a stranger. He prepares you logistically and psychologically to successfully make the transition to your new life and new self in a new world, and gives you the best information on how to go, where to go, how to live, how to behave, and even who to become once you get there.
Should I keep my assets here or move them abroad? How do I create a new identity? How do I stay lost? Can I ever go back? How can I avoid anyone who might be looking for me? And how can I find someone who's disappeared on me? How do people fake their own deaths? What can the government do to catch a concealer? Pankau has the answer for all these questions and many more, and provides the tiny, often overlooked details that can make the difference between lounging on a tropical beach or ending up on the wrong side of the law.
Whether you're in search of a new life or someone who has hidden their assets and disappeared and left you in the lurch, listen to Edmund J. Pankau. With his unique, entertaining, eye-opening guide, he shows you how to go from victim to victor.
Thinking of disappearing without a trace? Want to find someone who has? Consider these questions...
Which is the better place to go, New Zealand or Panama?
How much cash you can legally take out of the country?
What are the hot spots the Customs Department targets as suspicious entrance points?
What is FinCEN and how can it ruin your plans?
Where is it better to keep money, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, or Switzerland?
Should you seek out the expatriates in your new country or lay low?
What should you do if someone recognizes you in your new home?
What happens if you get sick abroad?

Hide Your Assets and disappear.......2007-09-24
Great book, had lots of useful insights. Book arrived in a timely manner and in condition promised.
Dated and not practical for privacy.......2007-01-31
I have read a number of privacy books and this one is not a great read.
Dated and not practical.
Didnt tell me anything.......2007-01-05
Gave alot of ideas on what you should do, but no real advice on how to do it
Utterly useless.......2006-08-23
Before 9/11, this was already a joke among people interested in protecting their privacy and assets (e.g., from litigious lawyers). After 9/11, none of the stuff mentioned in this worthless book even remotely works. BTW, the other reviewers are right: he doesn't really tell you *how* to do things anyway!
Don't waste your money.......2005-10-08
This book is for more affluent folks who already have access to this type of information. Outdated, sexist, even insulting to those who believe in paying their fair share. If you are a regular middle class or working class person who is fed up with paying through the nose to make everyone else richer, you are on the right path but this is NOT the book for you.

America: What Went Wrong?
ASIN: 0803949820 |
Book Description
Who are the homeless children in America and what do we know about them? How does their being homeless affect them and society in general? What's being done to help them? What About America's Homeless Children? takes a multifaceted look at the growing, disturbing problem of children (including infants) in homeless families and abandoned and runaway children in America. The author examines the social factors that create homeless situations of children and personal and educational problems that can result from it. The health risks to this population, including unsanitary living conditions, poor nutrition, physical assault, and lack of access to health care are also explored. Author Paul G. Shane brings the problems and effects of homelessness to a personal level by presenting ethnographic case studies of individual children in urban shelters, families in a shelter program, and people who "survived" a homeless youth experience. The history of programs, both governmental and nongovernmental, and government policies for homeless youth are also examined. The book concludes with recommendations for policies and programs that can prevent homelessness for children. Human service professionals and policymakers who deal with children and families as well as those in the fields of public health, policy studies, and clinical and counseling psychology will find this book a stimulating summary of research findings and implications about this vulnerable population.
