A WOW 5-star read!.......2007-07-19
WOW, I loved this book. This is an emotional story that touched me so deeply. What a great read.
The story is told through Christie's eyes. The story begins in August of 1961 and takes place between Cocoa Beach and Melbourne Beach, Florida. Christie is the youngest of the three O'Kelly sisters, and is 14 years old when she meets the boy of her dreams. His name is Todd, soon to be her step cousin. Her Uncle Jack is marrying Carly, Todd's mother. After falling for Todd she decides to put away her teddy bear, which she takes back out of her closet from time to time for comfort. After four years of dreaming about her future with Todd, she is devastated from a letter to her aunt and uncle revealing that Todd is married.
The story progresses through eight years. Christie comes home to find that Todd had been to her place looking for her. Todd is determined to win Christie back, but Christie wants no part of being hurt and lied to again. Todd offers to be there for her as a friend due to her uncle's illness. She does not believe him and calls her uncle, and learns it is true that he is sick.
They are thrown together time and again due to her uncle's series of medical conditions. Todd is persistent and they become engaged. Then suddenly her uncle dies.
Christie is confused as she thought he was doing better, and Carly's behavior and actions around her are very different, almost as if she feels guilty about something. Christie is determined to find out the truth, as she does not believe her uncle's death was natural. So she begins asking questions, prodding for the truth, but is afraid this will be the end to her relationship with the man of her dreams.
The author mixes romance and a touch of mystery. The plot is intriguing, the characters are believable, and the story has vivid details. The story will tug at your heart and will bring tears to your eyes.
A fascinating read, I could not put this one down--highly recommended,
Armchair Interviews says: A definite 5-star read.
This is an awesome book!.......2007-07-11
Where mystery meets romance, If Truth Be Told is a poignant and thought-provoking story of Christie and her search for the two things that matter most to her - love and truth. But when the two collide, she has to find her own balance between them and ultimately decide which matters more.
I have to say that I truly loved this book! Ms. Fitzgerald writes the character of Christie so well that I could almost believe she really exists. I cannot recommend this novel highly enough!
fascinating look at a girl becoming a woman .......2007-07-02
In 1961 when Christie O'Kelly was fourteen her beloved Uncle Jack, who serves as her male role model after her dad died, remarried. At the ceremony, Christie and her older sisters meet their new Aunt Carly's son Todd. Christie thinks he is a hunk, but he ignores her. Over the next four years as she trades bobby sox for stockings, Christie finds she still wants Todd until he marries someone else.
In 1973, a divorced Todd realizes Christie is the one for him, but she rejects his advances. When her beloved Uncle Jack becomes ill, she goes to help Aunt Carly nurse him. Todd uses this time to try to re-win the heart he tossed aside when he thought she was too young for him.
This is a fascinating look at a girl becoming a woman as Lynda Fitzgerald takes readers through the major events shaping the life of her likable lead female. Thus the story line feels more like a series of vignettes in the life of Christie rather than a novel. This technique enables the audience to see deeply into what made her the adult she is, but lacks sustained action built from previous events as each occurrence is somewhat a stand alone. Fans of deep character studies of whom and what turned a teenage girl into the woman she is will appreciate Ms. Fitzgerald discerning tale.

When a book makes you laugh and cry, you just have to love it........2007-06-28
Lynda Fitzgerald has reached out and touched my heart with this book. There are parts where I look back and relive those wonderful tender feelings of my first love, my first heartbreak and then cry because of the lost of a father figure. You will too when you read this book. The author has such a way with words that you will find yourself bursting with laughter at Christie's sense of humor then turn around and cry at the heartbreak of losing her favorite uncle to a fatal disease. You will hold your breath when Christie realizes that there may be more to his death and the truth may cause her to lose so very much more. I just love this book.
Touching to the heart.......2007-06-22
Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (2/07)
"If Truth Be Told" is an incredibly written fictional story. The author, Lynda Fitzgerald, incorporates romance, suspense, and mystery into an excellent plot. The story begins with Christie O'Kelly at the age of fourteen. In addition to the typical teenage angst that most of us experience, she is also dealing with being treated like an outsider by her mother and sisters. This pushes her closer to her uncle and his new wife Carly. When she meets her uncle's stepson, Todd, it is love at first sight.
Carly takes Christie under her wing and while she is teaching her about hair and makeup, she also instructs her on life and why people act the way that they do. This new perspective helps Christie become more compassionate towards her siblings and her mother. When Todd falls for Christie, he tries to do the right thing by not taking advantage of her. In the long run, he makes some very poor choices and manages to break her heart.
Years later they meet again. Christie is still angry at Todd for hurting her. When her uncle becomes ill, it forces them together and, in time, allows many of their issues to be resolved. Her uncle's illness causes Carly to change. After he passes, she clings on Todd and does not want Christie around. Christie begins to suspect foul play in her uncle's death. This drives a wedge between herself and Todd. She has to work harder than ever to try to overcome this.
I really loved "If Truth Be Told." Because there are no slow moments in the story, I had a hard time putting it down. Fitzgerald has a talent of wrapping you up in the story so that you start to feel like Christie's family and her issues are your own. Fitzgerald also impressed me with her ability to have Christie develop emotionally as she is growing up. Her transition from teenager to adulthood and her lessons learned along the way are so perfect for who she becomes. Her friends and family are also going through their own issues especially in regards to relationships. Everything that is happening seems so real, I felt more like this was an autobiography.
"If Truth Be Told" really touched my heart. Not having Ms. Fitzgerald's talent for words, I cannot give this book the kind of review that it best deserves; I can only tell you that you should not miss out on the chance to read it. This is a great choice for a women's reader group.
Book Description
Since 1986 New York based psychotherapist Marilyn Graman and Maureen Walsh have offered a weekend workshop entitled "Having What You Want With a Man" that has helped thousands of women find husbands and rewarding relationships. There Is NO PRINCE and Other Truths Your Mother Never Told You is a modern melding of traditional wisdom, post-feminist thinking and personal discovery that gently shows a woman what is in the way to her having what she wants in a relationship. This wise guide for women of all ages takes readers step-by-step through the process of preparing for, finding, choosing, managing and enjoying having a man in her life. There is NO Prince helps women get to know the enormous power they hold with their lives and with their men and overturns old ideas and wrong information about relationships, revealing secrets about men every woman should know.
Whether dating for the first time in years, moving on from a relationship that isn't right, or nursing back to health the relationship they are already in, women will discover
* the underlying issues that are keeping them from having the relationships they want
* practical, simple ways to shift and heal what isn't working and become irresistible
* that loving themselves is central to having what they want with a man.
There Is No Prince is Graman and Walshs' second relationship book in a series on the subject of having more of what you want in life taken from the technology and wisdom taught in workshops, seminars, retreats, intensives and individual sessions since 1984. Their first book, The Female Power Within: A Guide to Living a Gentler, More Meaningful Life was applauded by Arianna Huffington as "a ground-breaking exploration of the nature of women's power".
There Is No Prince is a truly liberating guide to a 21st century relationship.

Looking in a different mirror.......2007-02-11
This book is very clever. It helped me look at subconscious beliefs I hold about relationships and choose new steps to take to change them. It seems that after a few romantic experiences, most women begin to make generalizations about themselves and about men. The book helps the reader identify those and other pitfalls to forming a healthy, highly functioning relationship. I think so highly of the authors' approach, I actually flew to New York and attended their seminar, which was also revealing.
I have bought copies for friends who could use a little help. (It's more polite than pointing out things I see that might be causing them to fail to get what they want with a man). While no book is going to get you the results without effort, this book makes the steps clear, logical and practical. It teaches the reader to look at themselves differently and illuminates what may be blind spots. I recommend it highly to all single women who would like to find a long-lasting relationship.
Required reading for women.......2004-03-06
One thing that is common among both men and women is that unconscious beliefs hold us back and often keep us repeating our mistakes over and over. There is no place this is truer than in relationships. "There Is No Prince" examines how a woman's unconscious beliefs may limit her relationships and keep her from finding the person who is right for her. For example, waiting for your prince to come and sweep you off your feet. Look inside yourself, honor and be true to yourself, find the right relationship with you and then find the right relationship with a man... or don't. You really do have a choice. This is an insightful guide to creating the relationship you want; "There Is No Prince" is a highly recommended read.
This is the best guide on relationships I've ever read........2003-09-15
I LOVED how this book lead me through a step by step process of uncovering what it is I really want a man for and then preparing me to have him enter my life. I learned: how to become irresistible to a man; that loving myself is central to having what I want in a man; the best place to meet intelligent, successful men; how to know when to say no to a man who is not right for me; how to recognize and choose a man who is right for me. And so affirming and respectful of the relationship process.
For women like me who have had their hearts broken over and over again, following these steps will empower us to choose a man who is perfect for us. This book wisely guides us to "dismantle old romantic ideas about dashing princes on white horses coming to take us away". Included is the best information about how men really are that I've ever seen. I'm SO ready for this and am well on my way to 'man'ifesting a happy relationship!
One Stop Shopping for Relationship Guidance.......2003-07-30
No Prince is a no-nonsense approach in helping unveil what is in your way to having the relationship you want. The book is written in a very conversational, approachable manner which is easy to relate to and digest. It's non-pedantic, non-preachy, user-friendly tone is threaded with first person stories making the relationship issue feel universal and and moreover an issue thatis healable and open to resolve.
It provokes thought and tilts your head to look at yourself and your future direction in a new light. I have referred to it and reread it several times. A must read for all women in search of a loving, realistic relationship.
Fabulous Information In this Book.......2003-07-25
The information in this book helped me get married, and is keeping my marriage on track. What is amazing about this book, is that my man doesn't have to do any work, and I'm happy. Pretty great, huh? My husband loves the effect of this knowledge - I'm much less critical of him and able to understand him. I recommend this work to everyone I meet!
Book Description
Welcome to the critically acclaimed HBO drama series The Wire, hailed as "the best show on television, period" by the San Francisco Chronicle. The New York Times calls it "a vital part of the television landscape...unvarnished realism." Time declares that The Wire, "like its underfunded, workaday cops, just plugged away until it outshone everything else on TV."
The Wire stands not only as riveting drama but also as a sociopolitical treatise with ambitions beyond any television serial. The failure of the drug war, the betrayal of the working class, the bureaucratization of the culture and the cost to individual dignity -- such are the themes of the drama's first two seasons. And with every new episode of season three and beyond, another layer of modern urban life will be revealed. Gritty, densely layered, and realistic, The Wire is series television at its very best, told from the point of view of the Baltimore police, their targets, and many of those caught in the middle.
Rafael Alvarez -- a reporter, essayist, and staff writer for the show -- brings the reader inside, detailing many of the real-life incidents and personalities that have inspired the show's storylines and characters, providing the reader with insights into the city of Baltimore -- itself an undeniable character in the series. Packed with photographs and featuring an introduction by series creator and executive producer David Simon, as well as essays by acclaimed authors George Pelecanos, Laura Lippman, and Anthony Walton, here is an invaluable resource for both fans of the show and viewers who have yet to discover The Wire.
Hollywood has long used the cop drama to excite and entertain, and Hollywood has always dictated the terms. But The Wire is filmed entirely in Baltimore, conceived by Baltimoreans, and written by rust-belt journalists and novelists intimately familiar with the urban landscape. It's as close as television has yet come to allowing an American city to tell its own tale.

Mostly episode summaries.......2006-07-09
I bought this hoping to get more background on crime in Baltimore, and was disappointed to find that it's 3/4ths episode summaries, and one self-absorbed intro by David Simon, and barely mentions the real stories that inspired the show. Unless you're a huge fan of the show, to the degere that you want to read the plots over again (and I liked the first season, then lost interest at the second, for what it's worth), there's not much to get into here.
Gritty Sociology and Political Economy of Urban Crime.......2004-11-06
Anyone interested in seeing what a group of creative and compassionate writers bound by little network interference can do with a subject matter and a place caught in the throes of globalization, deindustrialization, and mounting despair and hopelessness for a large segment of the population need go no further than this book. More penetrating and revealing than dry scholarly tomes on these subjects, the writers of this book divulge the often painful tensions of producing, writing, and filming "The Wire," arguably the best dramatic series on television. Precisely because it grows out of the knowledge and life experiences of the producers, writers, and actors who have lived in this city, the series has a ring of authenticity and pathos that past commercial crime series for the most part lacked. Building upon the critical acclaim of "Homicide," the producers and writers led by David Simon and the late Bob Colesberry take "The Wire" to a new level of quality, realism, and art. The discerning watcher is rewarded with complex character sketches, twisting and demanding plots, and stunning filming that almost literally keep the viewer glued to the screen. In addition, the series puts a spotlight on both the irrationalities of the contemporary drug war and the humanity and moral complexity of even the most hardened criminal or drug kingpin. Humor, tragedy, callousness, and irony. Love, sex, drugs, and rock'n roll. Compassion, despair, hope, and avarice. All these ingredients combine into an extended annual series that peels open a layer of the city of Baltimore through stories that tell us much of the hellish possibilities and tender and healing moments of urban America slouching into the first decade of the new Millennium. This is a book with chapters by many of the series' principal contributors. It is a work that deepens one's appreciation for the series' creativity and genius, as well as its profound tragic sense of life and unrelieved tensions. Covering the first two seasons of the program, the book enhances the true fan's knowledge of the series with delightful vignettes, juicy tidbits and nuggets, and honest portraits of the characters who populate the series and the actors who inhabit those characters. Once started, the avid viewer will not be able to put it down. Guaranteed!

The Urban Book Source.......2007-08-13
Truth Be Told is not your ordinary Christian Fiction novel. Far from preachy, Victoria Christopher Murray has crafted a page turner that takes you on a spiritual journey into the lives of Grace and Conner, a well-to-do African American couple who seem to have everything perfect, until a secret surfaces and threatens to shatter their marriage and test their faith. Although the plot is a staple in many books, Murray adds a fresh twist of faith that will keep the attention of her readers. Mrs. Christoper Murray has indeed mastered the art of contemporary ministering through story-telling.
Wasnt for me.......2007-05-10
This was the first time I read a book by this author and the story just was so unrealistic and predictable for me. Its a decent read and I would purchase another book by her.
What's done in the dark, comes to the light.......2007-04-03
Like always, Victoria seems to bring marriages through tough situations but in the end, God gets the glory. This was a story of a man having an affair before he became a christian. Once he learned years later that he bared a son during his affair; the truth had to be told to his wife in order to live a normal life.
"Truth Be Told?...So What!".......2006-11-01
There's really nothing to say about this novel other than it was boring, predictable and the chapters were too long to get to the point.
The Truth Was Some What Told.......2006-01-07
This is the 3nd book that I've read by this author. This is a good story about infidelity and how a family deals with a child out of wedlock. Although this was a great story-line, the author failed to go into detail regarding the underlying issues regarding infidelity and lack of spiritual connection with God. Rather, the author scrubs the surfaces of both these issues.

What Doctor Hasn't Told by Schneider.......2006-06-27
The gold standard for Alternative Medicine citations is the
Journal of the Lancet. Although this work lists some important
complementary medicinal protocols I recognize, it's not clear
whether or not conclusions reached on other treatments are valid.
The author mentions the benefits of calcium citrate absorption in
the intestines. Magnesium is cited as a good tonic generally known to benefit musculoskeletal conditions. Ginger and tumeric are cited as classic anti-inflammatory tonics.
Glucosamine/Chondriatin sulfate with or without MSM is cited in the "Arthritic Cures". I've utilized the protocol with some benefit. Capsaicin is well known for arthritic pain alleviation.
Devil Claw is cited as a classic arthritic anti-inflammatory.
The joint complex mixture is Glucosamine at 1500 mg.,
Chondriatin sulfate at 1200 mg. Yoga or rigorous stretching
together with cardio-exercises daily can help with arthritic range of motion issues. Classic joint flareups may be
handled with capsaicin, acupuncture, massage, hot baths,
TENS and avocado/soy. I've utilized some of these protocols
with success in relieving joint pain symptomatology. A strength
of this work is that these protocols are listed. It would be
more helpful if specific scientific studies had been cited.
Most physicians know of these treatments; however, they are
at a loss to cite specific studies. Here is where the author
could build upon this work.
Good effort, but falls way short of accuracy and completeness.......2006-06-26
I appreciate Dr. Schneiders efforts, however, it doesn't appear that his knowledge of "alternative therapies" is accurate or complete. There is a lot of research that supports many of the therapies he says do not work. How many alternative therapies/organizations apply for research grants and are denied? Especially compared to pharmaceutical companies? Do the research yourself or go to online to websites like www.mercola.com for more accurate and complete information. Bottom line: We need more research into alternative therapies to determine their effectiveness. Finally, he states to be careful about chiropractic and especially of those chiropractors recommending long term care. Several research articles support and definitively show the benefits of chiropractic care for two years compared to two months. The test subjects who had two years showed 100% return to normal physiological states. Go to JVSR.com for information about this landmark study. My opinion: continue to read, but please THINK for yourself and remember that many of the books out there are the author's opinion and not fact.
best resource I've found.......2006-06-24
Many doctors discount treatments that are not "conventional" all together, it's true. But the reality is that health stores are responsible for duping the public as well. Don't think that just because you see something in a health store it's good for you. But on the other hand, so-called "alternative" treatments have a lot to offer people with chronic health problems when used in the right way. This well-researched book cuts through all the clutter with clearly-organized chapters that outline "highly recommended" treatments as well as treatments that you absolutely shouldn't use. And it is by a doctor who is certainly qualified to make these recommendations. It's the most persuasive and digestable guide to alternative medicine out there.
I give him credit for trying.......2006-06-13
May I first applaud Dr. Schneider in seeing the value of alternative treatments as opposed to traditional medicine. However Dr. Schneider as with most Md's is not a good source of information on alternative forms of treatment. Md's are lucky in their 1000+ hours of education to get one 1/2 of a class on nutrition and alternative therapies. Therefore their knowledge base is close to nil. Most of the stuff he lists is mainstream knowledge. His research is not complete and most of it requires you to talk to your MD first who in turn would very unlikely recommend anything natural. However, because Americans have a love affair with their Md's they spend 244 BILLION a year on drugs. This in turn has made Dr. Schneider's profession one of the top five leading causes of death in the nation (JAMA). Because of this Md's who are seeing a shift away from traditional medical care can capitalize immensely on this shift in care by billing themselves as experts. I'd recommend someone who has MANY years of experience in nutrition and alternative therapy. Nutritionists, Naturopathic Physicians, Ayruvedic Physicians, Doctors of Chiropractic and Osteopathic Physicians are much better sources of info. Think about it.

Eye-opening, Insightful, and Most of All Interesting. .......2007-05-27
This book has been a staple for me since I read it some 3 years ago. The information that it provides into the thoughts, actions, and behavior of Americans is most interesting. I am a firm believer that America is facing many problems associated with integrity and honesty. It is well recognized that we are currently a nation without true leaders. Children have no heroes, except those who have died and gone many years ago. Even worse is that we have little trust in those who we should most respect and emulate- the president, congressmen, lawyers, etc. This is an eye-opener and I highly recommend it to anyone interesting in our current 'climate' and psychology in general.

PERSONAL IDEAS+COLLECTED WORKS.......2006-01-27
This book is a huge disappointment!
You would think that with all these pages, this would be a great book. Wrong. It is filled with the writers own formulas that look like they were photocopied from his own personal notebook! The other material is simply a collection of readily available info elsewhere, like info on ELECTROGRAVITY and T.Townsend Brown. I found about 15 pages worth anything-the rest is just the clever compiling of already known info from other sources! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Awesome book!.......2007-09-02
This book is right on for exposing Evolution for what it is...a Myth. Anyone who would give this book only one star is probably an evolutionist who doesn't want to be reminded that there is a God. Evolutionist need to hold on to a god-less theory and don't want to see their theory debunked.
This book is great! It is written for kids (4th grade-middle school). I bought this book for my daughters and also read it myself from cover to cover and learned a great deal from it. My children are in public school where Evolution is taught as fact. This book is a great reference for students. My daughters will often come home from school and look up what they were taught regarding evolution (ie. Ice Age, Cave Men, Dinosaurs etc.)in their Truth Be Told book. I wish every child could own this book to learn about all the loop holes in the theory of evolution that they aren't going to tell you about in the media or public school.
I actually came back to this website to order two more of the books and read the bad review listed. There was a reason the reviewer's nephews (in the previous review) were reading this book...because it contains the truth and their parents must have known that. He (the reviewer) most likey became upset when he saw them reading this book because he doesn't have a relationship with the creator of this earth.
Yes, if I were an evolutionist and wanted to pretend God didn't exist, I too, would be angry and give this book one star but, as someone who believes that God created this world and everything in it, I give it five stars. We need more books like this to counteract the myths being fed to us and our children.
You've got to be kidding?.......2007-06-17
I first ran across this book when I was at my brother's house. I was shocked to find that my nephews were reading this book. For fundamentalist Christians who believe the Biblical stories, naturally, the overwhelming evidence of science is causing much embarrassment. Books like this one are designed to tell Christians what they want to believe.
This book is meant to be a "science" textbook at the grade school level. There are even questions at the end of each chapter to reinforce the "correct" thinking. While I liked the illustrations, I had to give this the book the lowest possible rating because the reader will end up being more confused, and knowing less, than when he/she started. It angers me that children are being deliberately exposed to this dribble. The only good use for the book is for students of critical thinking to try to find the lies, distortions, deletions, generalizations, bad science, bad logic, and propaganda techniques throughout the book. Even then, it would only be useful for beginning students, because the problems are all too obvious.
The authors are promoting Young Earth Creationism, which is basically that the earth is about 6000 years old, and the simple answer to any science question is: "God did it". The book also promotes the myth of Noah's global flood. Most Young Earth Creationists depend on the flood to explain away geological problems like erosion, fossils, sediment layers, and continental drift. For YEC's there is also the problem of the dinosaurs: Dinosaurs obviously existed at one time, and the Bible says that two of every kind of animal went on the ark, so therefore, dinosaurs must have been on the ark also. And not only did dinosaurs survive the flood and live 4500 years ago. People even tamed them (there are illustrations in the book showing dinosaurs pulling carts).
So after the flood (within the last 4500 years), the book purports:
1) Most of the dinosaurs were hunted down and killed (although they claim that there may still be a few around).
2) 250 million years of continental drift and mountain forming happened right after the flood, so that the continents got to where they are today (but then the drifting suddenly slowed to a snails pace).
3) The last ice age (and all the ice ages) advanced and retreated.
4) All of the millions of species that we have today evolved from the relatively few "kinds" of animals that could fit in the ark. This also includes all the species that have since become extinct (like "birds with teeth").
5) All of the fossils that we find today were from animals buried in the flood.
6) All of the coal in the world was formed after the flood
For a "science" book, the amount of bad science and bad logic is staggering. Some highlights:
1) They say that matter cannot be created or destroyed, even though they mention in a later chapter that the sun converts 8 million tons of matter to energy every second (I don't think they found that in the Bible). By the way, I don't know where they got 8M tons per second, it's about double the usual estimates.
2) They say that there is no proof of evolution - but "drug resistant bacteria" is only one example of many.
3) They are 50 years behind in their knowledge of radiometric dating.
4) They say there are no examples of transitional forms of species - archeologists claim many (the "birds with teeth" are good examples)
5) They say that evolution is about changing from the simple to the complex - evolution is about no such thing. It is about a species changing to, or being replaced by, a better adapted species.
6) They point out that amino acids could not have formed in the early primordial soup (to form life), because oxygen in the air would have prevented it - but there wasn't any free oxygen in the air until long after plant life was already well established.
7) They claim all the Neanderthal skeletons were just people with arthritis.
8) Early hominoids were just apes - (who happened to walk upright?)
9) They speculate that if you turn on a garden hose and it erodes away a 1" deep channel of mud in one minute, in twenty minutes it will have eroded a channel 20" deep.
10) They state that the Milky Way Galaxy is 100,000 light years wide (from the Bible?), but don't they know that since it's only been 6000 years since God created the universe, that we still couldn't see to the center of our own galaxy yet? In fact there wouldn't have even been a single star visible for the first 4 years after creation.
There is also a large amount of propaganda techniques used. Some examples:
1) They claim that because science can't answer every question, it's bad. The authors can answer every question - God did it - so they are better.
2) There have been a number of science hoaxes, so science can never be trusted.
3) Science keeps changing its answers (like revising the estimates of the age of the earth), so science isn't reliable.
4) Science contradicts the Bible, so it's wrong (and bad).
Anyway, I could go on and on, but you get the idea. My own thinking is that people can, and do, lie to themselves all the time, but we should not cripple children with books like this.
