Whether this is pregnancy number 1 or number 10, nothing makes it easier to connect with a growing baby than knowing exactly what magical development is happening every day. Filling the need for practical information, medical data, emotional and spiritual fuel, and even "pregnancy trivia," The Pregnancy Journal is easily one of the best books available for a woman or couple expecting a baby. The journal contains about half a page of information for each day from conception through delivery. Nutrition, how to avoid discomforts associated with pregnancy, childbirth customs in other cultures, and practical parenting tips are among the topics touched on. Many days in the journal have a great section called "Did You Know"; for example, from Day 49: "The baby's arms at this point are only as long as this printed 1." At the bottom of each page is a quote from a literary or historical figure; some are sentimental, some pithy, some humorous, all inspiring.
The information and quotes seem to invite musings and speculation on the miracle unfolding inside the womb; there is some space for recording data and thoughts, but if you want to write more than just a few lines every few days, you might want to have a blank journal to accompany The Pregnancy Journal. The format of this book makes it much more manageable and inviting than most books on pregnancy, and the information is made even more accessible by the inclusion of a glossary/subject index in the back. Don't wait until the shower to give this excellent resource and thoughtful gift--moms-to-be will want to have it from the very beginning. --Katherine Ferguson

I love this pregnancy journal!.......2007-10-04
I love this journal - I bought it for myself, and a girlfriend of mine, since I loved it so much! There is info about the baby every day and space to record your own thoughts and progress - lovely!
The Pregnancy Journal.......2007-09-21
This is a beautiful discovery of what happens in a woman's body throughout pregnancy and a wonderful way for you as a couple to bond with your baby. The book takes you through the journey and it is a real discovery.
Favorite Pregnancy Book.......2007-07-07
If you are looking for a blank journal - this isn't the book for you. If you are looking for a way to daily connect with the child growing within your womb - this is the perfect book for you. It was a psychological lifesaver for me. When my back was aching and nausea overwhelmed me I would often go to this book and read and it always reminded me that all the tough times of pregnancy are well worth it! I love the in depth detail on the estimated events that are happening. I realize that we all progress differently so the timing may not be perfect. However, as a nurse I am impressed with the accuracy of the material.
I have two sons and purchased a book during each pregnancy. I love reading through my notes in the books and recalling the sweet (and not so sweet) memories of pregnancy. We are planning on trying for another baby soon and this is the top book on my list! It will be a very special part of each of our children's memory chest.
The Best!.......2007-07-02
I bought this journal in 2000 for my first pregnancy and I bought it again in 2006 for my second. It's very user friendly and has just enough space to write down all the important things you want to remember. I love the day by day explanation of what's going on with my body and the baby. I highly recommend this!
wonderful!.......2007-06-27

Adorable in my opinion!.......2007-05-07
Adorable book which I gave to my daughter for easter. I think she really enjoys all the textures displayed; I know I do. I wish I had this book as a child. And its short in sweet, enough text and pictures to capture the minds of infants on up.
Great Book - Great Series.......2003-05-25
My daughter had been obsessed with the Sparkle and Shimmer series since she was 9 months. She loves to touch all the different textures. The pictures and text are all simple and appealing. We never get tired of these books and have read them about 10000 times!

Customer Reviews:
Good recipies, great pictures.......2007-10-06
This book really got me excited for the babyfood making process. It has great pictures and recipies that sound really good. My baby has tried and loved a few of them so far. The only negative thing I would say is that a few of the foods in the recipies for the younger babies should really not be introduced until later. But as long as you do your research and know what not to give your baby until when, then this is a good resource.
just what i needed.......2007-10-01
I am happy with the book. I needed advice on which fruits/veggies to start on and which to graduate to. The book leaves me with little to have to figure out on my own! THat's what I need. It tells me what I can freeze and what I can't, what I need to mix with breastmilk or formula and what I can just mash up the way it is. I recommend it if you are going to make your own food! I use it with the baby food processor and it's just right!
Great book.......2007-09-16
this book is great but if you want recipes for all ages (4 months through 3 years or so) get "super food" book by the same author, has many puree recipes as well as alot more.
Excellent Cook Book! .......2007-09-14
I wish I had purchased this book when my baby was younger. She is 10 months and loves everything I have made her from this book. Initially she did not want to eat the food - I think because she was not used to baby food that has so much flavor. Now she loves them! I have tasted everything I have made her and would honestly eat these meals myself. When she is older and chewing foods, I will make these recipes is larger quantities for the entire family. I love that the meals can be frozen and I made several batches at once, so there is always a variety of foods at hand for her. I would recommend making the vagetable / chicken broth to use in the recipes - this adds so much more flavor to the foods than just using water.
You won't regret purchasing this book. My husband jokes that our baby eats better than we do:o)
great book.......2007-08-28
I looked through many books so that I could make my daughter her own food. This book gives a lot of recipes. I'm happy that I chose this one.

Golden Book set.......2007-02-08
I bought this set for my grandson and am very pleased with it! It has five titles (The Color Kittens, Mister Dog, I Can Fly, Baby Farm Animals, The Jolly Barnyard, and The Happy Man and His Dump Truck) which are old favorites with some favorite author/illustrators, including Margaret Wise Brown and Garth Williams. The reason for buying the set AS a set, however, was the blank create-your-own Golden Book! I think this is a great idea and look forward to seeing my grandson's own story!

Book Description
For his birthday, Duck's animal friends give him a swimming suit, a diving board, and a slide, but it is not until Tortoise arrives with an inflatable pool that they have something to swim in.
Customer Reviews:
Just Ducky!.......2000-11-07
Duck celebrates his birthday with animal friends in this beautifully illustrated book for younger children (from about age one to five). The animals bring him gifts:
"Duck got a ball that was pumped full of air. And a scuba mask, and a watch to wear And suntan oil to rub on his beak So it wouldn't burn and it wouldn't squeak."
The problem is that most of the toys are for water play, and Duck and his buddies live in the desert. Good thing Turtle brings the present that makes it possible for everyone to splash around and have fun!
The book is both simple and clever. The highlights here, though, are Jan Brett's vivid right-on illustrations of the Southwest: Big, bright, colorful, with warm tones, and enough detail to keep older toddlers interested. An absolute delight!

Customer Reviews:
Every New Mom should have this!!!.......2007-09-08
This book was a God-Send! Our son was only sleeping 10 hours maximum a day. He was fussy and irritable in the morning when he woke up. We did not realize how much sleep a baby needed. He is now sleeping 12 hours at night and taking 2 naps during the day. He is a very happy little boy and eager to go to bed at night. He wakes up happier and the fussiness has gone away. Dr. Weissbluth has excellent examples and stories shared by other parents. A MUST READ FOR ANYONE WITH A NEW LITTLE ONE!! GREAT GIFT IDEA FOR NEW PARENTS! DR. W covers other topics also that I wish I new 11 months ago!! READ IT, IT WORKS!
Lynn
I'd give it ten stars if I could . . ........2007-04-18
I'm a pediatrician, and I did not receive any training during residency on normal infant sleep patterns. I wish I had read this book ten years ago.
Dr. Weissbluth explains in a respectful tone why sleep is so important and what happens biochemically to a non-sleeping baby. It isn't always obvious to every parent that the baby needs a sleep schedule . . . this book explains not only WHY a schedule is so important, but HOW to get the baby started on one. It took a little while for my (then five month old) daughter to catch up on her sleep, and now, at nine months, she sleeps 16 out of 24 hours -- 13 hours at night plus two naps. The book is informative but not preachy. No gimmicks, just science. He endorses both "cry it out" and "soothe to sleep" techniques, discussing the merits of each, and is supportive of either crib sleeping or co-sleeping -- whatever works best for your family and parenting style. Like many self-help books, "personal stories" are included in the text, but unlike most self-help books, the stories are used to illustrate a point and not simply to self-congratulate the author. After reading four other sleep books, I've finally found the one book I can confidently recommend to my patients and my mommy friends!
Saved our sleep.......2007-04-10
We absolutely loved this book. We rec'd it from a friend and loved it and all the advise on teaching your baby to sleep by herself. I read every word numerous times and did all the techniques he taught. It was especially helpful knowing your small infant can usually stay up for no more than 2 hours at a time before needing a nap. It has totally revolutionized our sleeping habits and our daughter has slept thru the night (7p-7a) since about 6 mos. I totally recommend it and even give it for shower gifts!
Uses BOTH No-Cry and Self Soothing Techniques!.......2007-01-28
I read MANY reviews before selecting a sleep book to read during my last trimester. I wasn't sure if I would be of the no-cry camp or the let-them-cry-it-out side. This book actually answered the question for me!
The author describes how a newborn, up to 4 months, should NEVER be allowed to just cry it out. They cry because they need something but they have not yet developed the ability to link a parental attention to crying and cannot play "games". The author encourages parents to do whatever you feel is needed to sooth the newborn, including rocking or nursing to sleep. After four months the author said the child can learn to "fake cry" to elicit a parental response. This is when he recommends listening for types of cries and begining to "extinguish" the crying behavior by slightly delaying your response, especially to fake cries and night whimpers.
The author is strongly in favor of ample sleep for children. He explains how much they need (it's surprising) and that parents should watch for symptoms of drowsiness and put the baby down drowsy. NOT fully awake and not crashed-out asleep. There is extensive talk about what to do with problem sleepers. All solutions involve watching for the baby/toddler to become drowsy (slowing down play, rubbing eyes) and putting them to bed then. A few minutes of fussing will probably follow, at which time you are to check on them periodicaly, but a swift drift off into sleep is always on the heels of the protest. Most all-night sleep battles are with overtired children whose bodies are producing stress hormones to keep them miserably awake. Putting to bed while drowsy (even at 6 pm in the evening) produces much happeir, more alert and more agreeable children.
He cites endless studies about how sleep makes for happier, healthier babies and how IQ has been directly linked to sleep. (Children with an IQ above 140 have been shown to get 30-40 more minutes of sleep than their peers. That's how important daytime naps and scheduled bedtimes are!)
I very much liked this book set because I felt it gave me some very good, scientific advice about how to comfort my newborn and how to change my behavior as my baby develops to ensure he has the best possible start at getting good, healthy sleep. I rated the book four stars because I realized that nearly the entire contents of the "Your Fussy Baby" book were in the middle of the Healthy Sleep Habits book and I had not needed to buy both books.
good but vague and pushy.......2007-01-10
The ideas in this book are good, and when put in to practice correctly they can work wonders. However, they are a bit scattered and vague, often times repetetive. Sometimes seemingly contradictory. There is also the occasional threatening tone. Like "if you do not follow my ideas, your child may grow up sleep deprived and therefore depressed and unable to function". The advice is also pretty general, assuming that your baby is like most babies. They give case studies of babies who are different in many ways, but most of them still end up "but the program worked like a charm within a week and now they sleep like an angel all the time" which was not my experience with my baby. The program did work but it took tons of tinkering and much longer than a week, and is still not perfect. So, in conclusion, the book is a useful tool but don't expect miracles and maybe seek another source to compare with.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Book to Read!!!.......2006-02-04
How do I even start...I found this book to be informative, but also to be the laughter that I've needed for months. The author uses a lot of humor and reality based writing for her readers. I think having had a child previously I was able to relate to her sense humor while pregnant and through delivery. Even if you do not find this book to be informative enough for you, I can promise it will be the laughter that you have needed for many months. I tried reading on my breaks at work and would laugh so hard that I had to stop. I would then try to explain to someone why I am laughing and would laugh so hard while trying to explain that tears would just role down my cheek. Thank you Dr. Rachel Franklin for the real life reading.
Much better books for twins are out there!.......2005-11-15
I have read several twin pregnancy books, and this one is the least informative by far. The author focuses on her own pregnancy, while putting a little too much emphasis on her opinion that almost all twin pregnancies result in preterm labor and time spent in the NICU for the babies. Though there is a greater risk of preterm issues, they shouldn't be the focus. I just recommend other twin books and there are GREAT ones out there!
A MUST HAVE for this amazing news.......2005-10-24
Expecting for the first time and learning it was going to be twins, I was very anxious about what to expect and how a twin pregnancy would be different from a "normal" pregnancy. This book covers with humor and medical knowledge the reality of twins and what to do to prepare both mentally and physically. Many books are out there, but this quick read is a reference you will pick up again and again.
THANK YOU!!!.......2005-06-16
Finally -- a book about multiples pregnancy that doesn't make you wish you'd joined a convent! I bought this book the day my husband and I discovered that we were expecting twins; thus far, it's the only resource I've found that presents the joys and potential problems of multiples pregnancy with a positive outlook and an even-handed approach.
Medical information is plentiful (as you would expect), but this book is anything but clinical in it's presentation. Think of it as the "girlfriend's guide" to multiples pregnancy. Overall, it's an excellent resource for anyone expecting more than one, and a godsend for couples like my husband and me, who will be first-time parents.

Cute introduction to birthdays.......2006-07-24
This is part of a collection of Happy Birthday I'm ___ (fill in the age). The first two pages are about the child: Name, birthday, who gave them the book, and a place for the picture. Then it tells a story of a bunny, in simple board book format with simple illustrations. pg 1 "It's Hop's birthday" pg 2 "There's a birthday cake..." pg 3 "with one candle" pg 4 "make a wish" It continues in this fashion with part of the Happy Birthday song sung and ends with Hop eating the cake. The last two pages has a spot for the picture of the child at their party and a list of their gifts. I gave it four stars and not five because the text is not the stuff of classic children's literature as in Pat the Bunny or such but still cute enough to hold a one year old's attention. A nice keepsake and a nice book to read before a birthday every year.
Cute series for children--.......2004-06-08
This is a nice series to introduce birthdays to children. Our collection is growing, and the earlier photos are fun for children to look back on. Not much of a true story-line, but a good keepsake that children can play with.
