The Success Principles(TM): How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be
ASIN: 0757302610 |
Book Description
Fulfill your dreams...
Chicken Soup for the Entrepreneur's Soul is a compilation of short stories from entrepreneurs, both large and small, who share their experiences of success, failure and courage, with a little helpful advice mixed in.
Many of these stories, told for the first time here, will enlighten you to new methods of entrepreneurship or simply help you believe in the possibilities of getting started. People such as Doris Christopher, a stay-at-home mother, introduced her love of cooking to others, thus founding The Pampered Chef; sticking to his instincts and putting value at the core of his business, Tom Chappell, founder of Tom's of Maine, explains how success can go way beyond the balance sheet; and Carol Gardner intimately shares a desperate time of debt and divorce, until along came a bulldog named Zelda, followed by a greeting card line - Zelda Wisdom - which became one of Hallmark's number one sellers. These entrepreneurs and many more will inspire you with their amazing life experiences and fascinating beginnings.

Awesome & Life Changing!.......2007-05-07
This book, as well as the author have literally changed my life in positive ways I neevr deemed possible. I am so grateful for the book and for the wise words of Jack Canfield. He and his writings inspire and encourage me as well as give me hope for the future of our world!
LEARN, ENJOY, AND GET INSPIRED.......2007-01-19
A great book written by a combination of Entrepreneurs themselves, and authors to whom they told their stories. The stories are short - allowing the inclusion of many - of all kinds, sizes, phases of development, and types of "lessons learned", as well as place for you to write your own notes and reminders. You will want to go back to many (their websites are provided with brief comments at the end of each chapter)- so do not borrow your copy to friends! The excitement, the challenges, and the "I-can-not-possibly-want-to-do-anything-else" of Entrepreneurship comes through strongly. Learn, Enjoy, and get inspired!
Chicken Soup Entrepreneur.......2007-01-19
I enjoy inspirational books and really enjoyed short excerpts of so many successful individuals.
Inspirational Read.......2006-09-25
"Chicken Soup" delivers once again. This book is a testament to the rewards possible through hard work, strength of character and unwavering faith in a dream. The stories are inspirational and showcase great examples of good ol' American ingenuity. It's a real winner!
Entrepreneur's Soul.......2006-09-14
As an Entrepreneur myself, this book is like a bible to me. To read about very successful people who didn't take no for an answer or realized what their passion is and stuck with it inspires me to not quit when business gets tough. I rocommend this book to anyone looking for the daily pick-me-ups that anyone in business for themselves needs. Well done!

Book Description
Cassie Parker has grown used to denying her sexuality. Her father, the fire-and-brimstone Reverend Parker, has made that a neccessity. Raised in a web of secrets, sadness, and under the heavy hand of her father's righteous wrath and intolerance, Cassie turns to her art to fill the hole in her heart and erase the memory of a mother who abandoned her in childhood. Then Luke Winston enters her life. Strong, mysterious, and beautiful, Luke sparks Cassie's desire, and takes her heart to places she's never known. Soon Cassie can no longer deny her attraction to women--and especially to Luke.
When Cassie's father makes an unexpected visit, the intrusion on her new life explodes as dark family secrests are revealed. Will Cassie choose a life without family...or a life without love?
Customer Reviews:
Good and dependable.......2007-09-16
This was another good work from a dependable writer. It was not Gerri Hill's best (that goes to Hunter's Way). Reading the book was a very pleasant way to spend several hours with new friends.
Conservative Issues.......2007-05-21
Gain fresh insight into the difficulties lesbians face when their family is conservative and religious with this roller coaster story.
What a love story.......2007-02-20
Sometimes life is simple and sometimes it is not. This love story is good example of these facts. Had Ms. Hill gone into every detail about these two characters the book would read more like "War and Peace" (which many readers start but never finish)than a romance. By the end I was ready for Luke to design a house for me and I would love to have a few of Cassie's carvings sitting around the house. This story holds reality within (just because it isn't your reality doesn't mean that it could not reasonably be someone else's)
There were a couple of situational errors missed by the editors but overall just a nice lesbian romance with a few pitfalls on the way.
Thank you Ms. Hill for another good read.
I just had to read it twice..........2006-08-25
It's not often that I read a book twice, but I had to read this one again. WOW! What a phenomenal story.
Cassie, a wood sculptor, was raised in a very conservative household by a preacher. Hill never comes out and says what religion, but it screamed Southern Baptist. Her father put the fear of God in her regarding relationships with men and told her she'd be damned to Hell if she even thought of a relationship with a woman.
Cassie's best friend, Kim, is a lesbian. Kim tried to deny her sexuality and married a man. After six months of the farce, Kim filed for divorce and finally admitted she was gay. Cassie's father overheard her confession and cursed her presence. At the time of the story, Kim is happily partnered with Lisa. They have a stable, loving home and Cassie lives nearby. Kim is always trying to get Cassie to admit she's a lesbian too, but Cassie won't give in.
Her whole world is turned upside down when she spies Luke for the first time. Luke, a successful architect, is perfection personified. She's wealthy, beautiful, athletic, and she's a vegetarian. All perfect for Cassie. Except, she won't allow herself to admit the newfound lust running through her veins because of her father's warnings.
I grew up in a Southern Baptist household where homosexuality was equivalent to eternal damnation. Fortunately, most of my family accepts me for who I am. However, Cassie is not so lucky. I related to this character so intensely it was overwhelming. Hill masterfully captures many of the feelings of fear, regret, and helplessness that are so characteristic of an ultra-conservative upbringing.
Add her insight to a cast of colorful and dimensional characters, and this book's a winner. Very highly recommended. Be prepared to grab a box of tissues, a punching bag, and a snuggle buddy, because this one will take you on a great roller coaster ride.
A Great Love Story.......2006-08-05
Beautifully written love story of two women letting themselves fall in love despite past experiences.
Book Description
"Only those who have the patience to do simple things perfectly will acquire the skills to do difficult things easily." --Thought for the Day, March 22, 2005, Carolina practice plan
At the start of the 2005 season, the North Carolina Tar Heels were a talented yet dysfunctional team made up of gifted yet unfocused athletes. Head coach Roy Williams had his work cut out for him: to piece the team back together and inspire the players to use their adversity as the surest path to victory. On April 4, 2005, Carolina defeated Illinois in the championship finals. "How else could it have ended?" reflected forward Jawad Williams. "We've been the lowest and now we're the highest."
Led By Their Dreams, a celebration of the Tar Heels' 2005 season, features interviews with the players and coach Roy Williams. It also includes Williams's famous inspirational quotes--his "Thoughts for the Day"--which often foretold something about to happen and always served to push the team toward better teamwork and, ultimately, the NCAA championship.
With full-color photographs throughout, postseason notes, a list of the honors and awards received by standout players, and a CD of the radio call of the championship game, this is the ultimate book for fans to remember the best team of 2005 and its return to glory.
Customer Reviews:
Go Heels!.......2006-03-24
There are two great things about this book. The first being the freshness of the information. When a team wins a championship, the win is almost covered to death so to speak, so I was definately pleasantly suprised when the book contained many stories that I had not yet heard. Secondly, and probably the best thing about the book was the complete Tarheel Sports Network radio broadcast of the Championship game and the post-game press conferences. This book is a must for any Tarheel fan, and the CD is something you will listen to over and over.
If You Love Basketball.......2006-01-30
If you love basketball you are going to enjoy this book. It's a play by play of a championship team, their trials, tribulations, and trophy.
Well done.......2005-12-28
I bought the book just because I am a fan, but I am very pleased with its overall quality. It's a well-made hardcover book with durable sewn binding. Printed on thick, glossy paper, the large color photographs look bright and extremely sharp. The book includes Woody Durham's broadcast on 2 CDs. The book is not organized into game-by-game stories like the News and Observer's book. Instead, it has two main sections. First is a section of essays on various topics like "Workdays in Maui," "Senior Day," and "Two Steps to St. Louis." Second is a section of essays by all five members of the coaching staff and eight of the regular players. The book also includes an essay by Dean Smith, a record of the season, and list of awards and honors.
Great Way To Relive The Championship Season.......2005-10-12
Instead of a game by game retelling, the book is more in story format. It's very well done.

Book Description
Enjoy the Better Sleep You Need!
This highly successful hypnosis sleep CD utilizes a special blend of hypnosis, relaxation techniques and guided imagery designed to help you enjoy the better sleep you need!
Hypnosis is a fast and incredibly effective insomnia treatment. If you can't sleep or suffer from chronic sleep problems, hypnosis can help.
Many people find sleeping medication ineffective or are concerned about the side effects. Hypnosis is a completely natural state of relaxation in which your subconscious mind is open to hearing positive suggestions that will help you sleep better. In addition, while in hypnosis your subconscious is willing to let go of any blocks or negative associations that may be the cause of your sleep problems.
Drift to sleep easily each night and wake up every morning feeling refreshed and full of energy.
Why is "Sweet Dreams" such an effective insomnia treatment?
Again, "Sweet Dreams" uses a special blend of hypnosis, relaxation techniques and guided imagery that will enable you to slow down, unwind and sleep better. Hypnosis allows you to calm both your conscious and subconscious mind, while guided imagery leads you into a more tranquil state where you can drift to sleep quickly and easily.
Can everyone be hypnotized?
Yes. Have you ever been driving a familiar route home and suddenly arrived at your destination without remembering the last few minutes of the drive? This is one example of our subconscious mind taking over the routine details of life. Our subconscious mind handles most of our day to day activities. That is the subconscious mind's job - to handle the details of life, while our conscious mind handles the more important needs.
Most clients are amazed at how quickly they accomplish their desired results. Unlike traditional therapies, Hypnotherapy is able to help you reach your goals without going through years of self-exploration.
When You Are Ready!
Reach your goals faster than ever! You can and will make permanent, positive changes in your personal and professional life. Beverly Hills Hypnosis offers an effective, relaxing, drug-free choice for change.

First Complete Night's Sleep In Over A Year!.......2004-12-07
The Sweet Dreams CD is incredible. For over a year I've taken several different sleep aids, and while I might fall asleep, I never slept for very long. In the mornings I would feel groggy and tired. But, after listening to Sweet Dreams, I slept the entire night! I'm now sleeping soundly, all night long with out taking any medications, and I'm waking up feeling great. Thank you so much!

Can we educate our people and still maintain standards?.......2004-12-15
The question is simple. What does one do about the fact that many minority students simply are not qualified to go to college? As I see it, there are three solutions. One is to simply say "too bad." The second is to admit severely unqualified students and try to provide them with remedial education and get them to a point where they have accomplished something. The third choice, which I favor, is to help these students before they get to college, in grades 1 through 12, so that they can qualify legitimately. Of course, one can do a little of all three.
The City College of New York took the second choice in 1970, and not surprisingly, standards dropped. About half the students were either taking English as a second language or were in SEEK, a program which gave admission to otherwise unqualified students whose family incomes were below a poverty threshold. The graduation rate of the SEEK students was somewhere below 15%.
Hopefully, standards are going up again now. As a person with a love of academia, I sure hope so. We'll see what happens.
The author spent a year at the campus, attending classes, interviewing students, and interviewing faculty. We see a class teaching English as a second language. We see a few SEEK students who struggled and survived. But still, that means just getting by, maybe on track to graduate from college with the equivalent of a tenth-grade education in most fields (although having been trained to write papers that at least looked academic in form).
I don't know what has happened on the campus since this book was written ten years ago. But one hopeful sign was a proposal requiring incoming students to have college preparatory training in high school. The lack of high school college prep courses was making it too difficult for many students to accomplish anything in college.
The alternative would be to lower standards to nothing, but then one's degree would eventually be worthless.
Still, standards were high in some fields. More than one quarter of the school's graduates were in engineering. Engineering schools need to meet national standards, and this one does. Any student could enroll in engineering, but classes were difficult and had serious prerequisites. And many students were weeded out.
I think the most intriguing part of the book was the question of the teaching of racist ideologies on campus. And that meant dealing with the issue of Leonard Jeffries, a notorious teacher at the school, "who often implied, though rarely said outright, that blacks were superior to whites not only culturally and morally but biologically."
I agree with the implication by the author that the success of Jeffries at the school ought to be thought of not merely in political terms but also as one more instance of failure to meet academic standards.
This was an interesting book, and I recommend it.
City College and all it's glory.......2000-09-28
James's Traub "A City of a Hill Testing the American Dream at City College" has sadly gone out-of-print but you can find it an second-hand outlets or even here at amazon.com. Perhaps one reason for this is that it's theme, that affirmative action served to undermine a great institution, has gained a wide following and affirmative action is being knocked down all across the country. (Traub claims that his book takes no position on this debate but I believe it does.)
If for no other reason this book is great to read because it chronicles the City College of New York from it's heyday to it's decline. (The current mayor of New York, Rudolph Gulianni, has reversed the policies of City College and embraced meritocracy once again.) But before I describe that I need to say in all fairness that only the humanities part of the college suffered under affirmative action. The medical and engineering schools continue to be strong. After all, as Traub points out, you cannot relax standards in, say, civil engineering. If you did we would have bridges falling down.
In the 1930's through the 1960's the City College of New York was where young white Jews aspired to go to school Woody Allen went there. The student body became mainly Jewish. The main City College campus is located in Harlem which is, of course, neither Jewish nor white. It's geographical location is one reason that progressive educators and the community clamored for lowering standards. The result was the school accepted students who were not prepared so they start remedial education courses.
Anyway important Jewish scholars went to school there. Getrude Himmelfarb, Irving Kristol, and I believe Alfed Kazim and Irvin Howe are all alumni. Traub's book describes how these budding scholars gathered at a certain table in the cafeteria to discuss rarefied topics. Socialism was what these students believed. (Of course Himmelfarb and Kristol, husband and wife, later broke with the socialists and started the Neo-conservative movement.) The intellectual excitement described there is endearing and reminiscent of the movie "Yentel". O to be a part of a community that loved learning so.
I think this book says a lot about the Jewish community that I admire. In New York and in Easter Europe, they saw their means to advancement and a way to avoid persecution as education. Their rabbis were learned mean who often did not physical work but sat and pondered all day long. Their own Torah is a work of great intellectual import. Isn't that wonderful?
Enjoyed it very much........1998-03-30
I read this for an important reason. I am a graduate of City College of New York. I attended in the years 1975-1979, right after Open Enrollment began. I remember then how shocked I was when I found out I was among a minority of students who would not need remedial help. My father attended CCNY as well, so he read the book too. Mr. Traub's portrayal was extremely accurate. I reread passages to see if there were areas I thought he was mistaken. There were none. It helps to have grown up in New York and have attended CCNY, for much of the book to have meaning, but for other parts of the book, the issues are important throughout the United States in examining education, and the American Dream.
Customer Reviews:
This guy is too much!!.......2007-06-16
This story is absolutely hilarious. This guy Fante was nuts! I know I am not a shrink, but I think it's safe to say that his elevator didn't quite go up to the top floor. However, I challenge anyone out there to pick up one of his books and see if they can easily put it down. The guy knows how to write. He may be insane, but the man holds your interest and he makes it real hard to stop reading.
"Dreams from Bunker Hill" takes place in Los Angeles in the late 1930's where Fante's favorite protagonist Arturo Bandini is a struggling writer who is given a job as a Hollywood screenwriter. Obviously, the world of Hollywood is no place for our wacky anti-hero. To me, Bandini seems to be a cross between Howard Stern and Jerry Lewis (obviously not the real Jerry, but the comedic characters he played). Arturo never stops with his antics, each antic seemingly eclipsing the one before it with its stupidity and insanity. There are more than a half dozen scenes in the novel which had me actually keeling over with laughter. Of course, not everyone shares my strange sense of humor. If you are the self-effacing, not too serious type, then you will probably love this guy. This is my third book of his, and so far my favorite. I may not like him as much as Bukowski, but I am really enjoy the majority of his writing and will continue to read more of his work. Like Hank, Fante grows on you, like it or not.
Fante definitely isn't going to be everyone's favorite dish. However, love him or hate him there is definitely no denying this guy was a true original. He was Bukowski's hero (he actually referred to him as 'God') and it is overtly clear after reading one page of Fante where Buke drew his inspiration. If you are a true fan of Hank's, then you positively must read this man. Most of his fans and critics agree that this is one of his better novels. I give it four and a half stars.
They don't write like this anymore.......2006-04-04
This is the second Fante novel I've read and it was a beauty. I just recenlty discovered Fante, too, and all I can say is I'll be reading more of him.
The novel follows Arturo Bandini, a twenty-something from Colorado who's struggling to make it as a writer in Los Angeles. He meets all kinds of morons in the business, and his talent pretty much goes unrecognized.
Fante's writing is just awesome. It far surpases the trash that's written today. If you're into a good story, one that has depth, action and killer prose, you can't go wrong with Fante. It's too bad they don't write like this anymore.
Also recommended: The Gospel of Arnie
Misogynist, Racist, and Dated.......2006-03-16
Fante seems quaint and offensive by today's standards. Another wholly disappointing offering from a mediocre writer, like a second-rate Steinbeck best left to obscurity.
Well written but too male-oriented.......2005-09-09
It's certainly well written, and it's not that I hated it, but...It's just such a male book that it feels hard to connect to. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some crazed feminist. More so, most of the books in my library were written by men. But most of them don't make me feel excluded. I think that a good book is universal. This isn't.
another wonderful job by john fante.......2002-12-12
you don't realize just how good john fante is until after you've read (better yet: attempted to read) so much bad writing our nation's bookshelves are filled with. i'd read this one years before and remembered it as being a decent read, etc. but there i was the other night, looking for something to read; i needed a book fix, i had to have something to read. reached up for dreams from bunker hill and began my second reading of it...stayed up all night getting into this warm, compassionate tale. fante had heart, intelligence and the story of old time hollywood moves right along. stayed with it until i was finished about 5 a.m.
fante makes it look easy, but quite a few of us know better: good writing is never easy to write or come by.
we thank buk for making us aware of fante and wish fante's recognition had happened earlier in his life...but you know what they say about wishful thinking... at least people are reading him now, as well as his son dan. i dare say, here and now, dan's prose is even stronger and better than bukowski. try either fante and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Product Description
Threads Of Faith By Joey W. Hill Marisa is a modern day witch, living at the edge of the woods and of society. She dispenses potions to help lonely souls find their true loves. Because of her inability to live among others, she doesn't believe love is for her, let alone sexual fulfillment. Then Conlon Maguire shows up at her cottage. Conlon wants a potion to win the heart of his soulmate, but the magic behind the potion sets its price. Conlon's potion demands that he spend one night with Marisa, bringing her pleasure. As a servant of the Light, Marisa cannot refuse the price if Conlon agrees to it, but from the moment he touches her, she knows her heart and shields are in danger. Make Her Dreams Come True By Joey W. Hill Meg's outing at the mall turns into the erotic experience of a lifetime when a sensual stranger convinces her to relinquish control to him. And so begins a game of seduction through the loss of free will... A story of sensuality so rich, sexuality so primal, Make Her Dreams Come True tells the tale of a woman who learns to fly by allowing one man to chain her.
