Book Description
Though few hunters actually make the trip to Africa in pursuit of The Big Five - elephant, rhino, leopard, lion, and Cape buffalo - the popularity of rifles designed to take such dangerous game has burgeoned in recent years. Here, the author, a widely recognized firearms expert and a veteran of many safaris, explores in detail the rifles and calibers that are drawing attention from big-bore aficionados.

A 'must' acquisition for any serious hunting library........2007-02-04
Terry Wieland is shooting editor of Gray's Sporting Journal and has contributed numerous articles to other shooting magazines, but his DANGEROUS-GAME RIFLES is an even more important survey and a top pick for any library including books on big game hunting. Packed with specifics about big-bore rifles, DANGEROUS-GAME RIFLES discusses legendary gunmakers, gun-making history, specs, and more, exploring their action, performance, and field applications. One Blood Review.......2007-09-13
I would not recommend this book to anyone who is a Christian. I found it to be poorly written. The author did not back up a lot of what he wrote with facts. Humans are a species, not a race... and anyone that has yet to grasp that has no business writing a book on this issue. The bible warns us of false prophets. This guy has taken bible versus out of context to promote some type of eqaulity that does not exist. All races have many differences, and God placed us in different geographical areas for that reason among others. While I have yet to find the bible to quote inter-racial mixing as a sin... I have found everytime different races have came together, i.e. for building the tower to heaven, he spreads us back apart and mixes up our language. He tells us(gentiles) in the old testament not to mix with the Jews. Different races have never gotten along and we never will because of our differences. That is inevitable. I can go on with simplicities, but anyone who is a true believer in God and his word can tell this book is blasphemy after reading the Holy Bible.
Faulty Premise.......2007-03-19
The whole premise of the book is flawed because the concept of race was never based on genetic theories to begin with so one cannot use genetic facts and theories to invalidate the existance of race. Secondly, racial categorification systems are largely arbitrary, and there are 2 main category systems one based on nationality, and the other based largely on physical appearance and geographical origin.. none of these systems emphasize "genetics"..
So the idea of a "human race" is wrongly meant to imply that the racial categorification systems are based on genetics which they arent.. that's why race is still used today because it's based largely on appearance and for that reason it is very useful..
As an added note racism has actually decreased since Darwin wrote his books, this book would have us believe otherwise. Just because the bible says we all have a recent common ancestor does NOT mean we are all equal. For example creationists claim a all dogs have a common generic dog ancestor that was on Noah's ark does that mean that all dogs are equal? NO! lap dogs are equal to gray wolfs.. So to assume that we should believe all "people groups(races)" (as AIG creationists calls them) are equal based on recent common ancestory is false and doesnt add up. So biblical creationism is NOT a barrier to racism as AIG claims it is..
This book is just another pathetic attempt to demonize evolution..
One Blood: Confronting the Error of Racism.......2006-07-08
The legacy of evolutionary theory has been around for more than a century, and its destructive influence has continued to make advances, not only in our culture at large, but even in the church. If there has been any change at all, from evolution's inception to the present day, then it might be found in the way in which the church perceives and approaches this contest between evolutionism and creationism. In fact, in many ways the modern church has capitulated to several of the tenants of evolutionary theory without even comprehending that it has done so - and this needs to change. It is this very issue that is addressed in One Blood, The Biblical Answer to Racism, co-authored by Ken Ham, Dr. Carl Wieland & Dr. Don Batten. Their approach to this subject is quite simple: Racism is an invalid ideology because there is no such thing as multiple races. Instead, there is just one race and it is called the human race. Their assessment of this matter is fully developed in the book, but I would simply add here that the English word itself is often misused and misunderstood in our modern culture. According to the Oxford English Dictionary (full edition), the term race refers to "A group of persons, animals, or plants, connected by common descent or origin." Based upon that definition alone, it is better to assert that there is in fact just one race since we all have our "common descent or origin" from one man - Adam. The principle text that guides One Blood is found in Acts 17 where the Apostle Paul preached the Gospel in Athens:
Acts 17:24-26: 24"God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25"Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26"And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings..."
The Lord made from one blood, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth. Clearly, verse 26 is the focal text of One Blood, and their approach to this subject is overtly biblical. Thus, every aspect of science, history, archeology, and biology is understood in view of the biblical record - not the other way around. Their commitment to inerrancy is therefore refreshing, especially in a world of integrationist "scholars" whose design is to subject the Bible to what they see as modern "science"; but this is not the approach of Ham, Wieland & Batten. One Blood clearly shows that modern day racism has been fueled by Darwinian philosophy. When people in the modern day speak of racism, they are typically referring to the distinction of skin color, however One Blood clearly demonstrates that skin color is a useless and unbiblical distinction.
Overall, I consider this to be a very solid and helpful work. It is also a work that challenges us to consider how we think of other people, and how we might reach out to them with the Gospel. I can tell you right now that if someone ever brings up the subject of racism - it is a wonderful Gospel opportunity (it certainly was an opportunity for the Apostle Paul when he addressed the proud and arrogant Athenians who were convinced of their own supremacy over the rest of mankind). Rather than talking to others about racism, feel free to speak to them about the oneness of the human race, and how it is that we were made from one blood - the blood of the first Adam. This then becomes an opportunity to tell them about the shed blood of the last Adam - the Lord Jesus Christ!
Respectfully presented, Well argued.......2006-03-01
The science, the timeline, all of it was well put together. Lined up clearly with the truth of Biblical history. Well done!
As we went through it with our preteens, it was nice to see science laid out in a clear fashion and not the typical convolution we find in evolution orientated material. The kids understood it well enough to debate each other and come out feeling like they were ready to challenge the circular logic they regularly face.
I will be giving this book out as a gift in future holidays.

Hundertwasser.......2007-09-09
When ordering this book I selected a used copy and was thrilled when the book arrived - it is in pristine condition.
Very prompt and efficient service.
Absolutely great art suitable for framing.......2007-02-24
I love the art of Hundertwasser and this portfolio provides about 10 small poster sized paintings (16" x 20") that easily can be removed from the book; the book is designed for clean and easy removal for each painting.
So far, I have framed two paintings, one for the living room and one for the office.
I would like to see Taschen bring out additional portfolios with new Hundertwasser prints.
I am incredible pleased with this product and amazed at the low cost, just over $10. A huge bargain!
title.......2006-05-03
the vivid colour reproductions were awsome, true to the origionals i'm sure, and i really enjoyed seeing Hundertwasser's archetectural models. I could have done without some of the authors wordy notes and at times he was refering to works that weren't even included in the book. I was very happy to get to read some of Hundertwassers own words, and it was nice to see early photos of the artist and some of his home in New Zealand.
found wanting.......2004-03-24
This is a nice portfolio of prints of his artwork. It only covers twelve of his paintings, and one print of the poster he did of the Hundertwasser-Haus in Vienna. Although there are very few pages, they are quite large, and have beautiful colors. This is definately coffee-table sized. This portfolio contains very little. Would have liked to see more of his architecture.
I salute your Spirit!.......2000-06-21
Hundertwasser died early this year in a little town in the North of New Zealand. Eventhough I had never met the man, I felt saddened, as I had come of know of him, and his work from this book, which is a biography of sorts.
While for me, the great attraction was the beautiful quality of the reproductions which replicated the pure pure colours, the text is mostly in an interview format, and one gets to hear Hundertwasser's 'voice' - and from that his spirit. I found myself wondering at times, if it was solely his work, or his passion which made the legend of Hundertwasser. The artist has strong opinions about everything, from garden gnomes to his hatred for conventional and boring buildings. I found his concepts of 'tree tenents' (trees should live with us in apartments) and houses that should be indistinguishable from above (by growing grass roofs) fascinating. However, at the end of the day, it is his bold use of colour - vivid, vibrant, confrontational colour coupled with his enigmatic yet child-like imagery, which glows in my memory.

20 Questions! New and Improved (Except for the Answers)!.......2006-08-18
The AiG brain trust (such as it is) plays a game of twenty questions and manages to come up answer-free. I could easily add twenty of my own but in the interests of brevity I'll stick with two:
Q. Why does this book resort to ridicule instead of reason?
A. Because taking cheap shots at opposing points of view is the only option available when the facts are against you.
Q. Why do Ken Ham and his supporting cast of characters deliberately lie for Jesus?
A. Because they are so desperate to prop up their fact-free faith with pseudo-scientific fantasies that they are willing to ignore ethical boundries.
Carl Sagan correctly observed that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof." Only threadbare assertions and just so stories are offered.
The claims made in this book would overthrow cosmology, physics, chemistry, geology, and biology. The only proof offered is an "appeal to authority" argument based on a highly suspect creation myth known as Genesis.
Bronze age dogma is a poor substitute for contemporary science.
Before any fundamentalists start to howl with outrage consider the following: the computer you are using to read this review, along with the internet, are the direct result of physics, particularly solid state physics and quantum mechanics. Genesis has nothing to do with it.
The medications that are lowering your cholesterol, curing a friends cancer, or mitigating your child's asthma, are all results of evidence-based medicine that depend on chemistry and biological insights derived from the theory of evolution. The alternative offered by creationism, and this book, the "snapping fingers and poofing into existance theory" offers nothing of value to any of the points noted above. Genesis, again, has nothing to do with it.
If you love dogma more than your dog, value uninformed anti-intellectual bigotry over hard won knowledge, and want to put your brain on cruse control as you hurtle down the mindless freeway of evangelical fundamentalist life, you'll love the pablum that substitutes for reasoned discourse in this book.
Please note that the level of ridicule reflected in this review is similar to that employed in the book, which is a complete waste of trees and time.
Once upon a time in a land far away in Ken Ham's head..........2006-08-10
Folks, it don' git no better'n `iss. Yesiree, whut we have here is thuh ultimate in scientifical thinkin'. Them thar daggone eevolutionists should be scramblin' fer answers right about now. Mr. Ham, it's long over due a fine upstanding citizen an' obviously brilliant scientist lahk yo'self should once an fer awll put eevolution whar it right deserves to be, an' that shore ain't in no dang text book. I know you don't need no help Mr. Ham, but I would like to make a few suggestions on how you might improve your darn near perfect book in the next edition.
First of awll, it is a known scientifical fact that thar is a, whatchucall, time/space warp up thar in them thar hills next side of Mt Ararat. Mainstream scientists will try to deny thuh existence of this warp, but ahm sure a man of your scientifical knowledge can demonstrate that it exists. What obviously happened after the flood is that kiwis, kangaroos, plapytusses an awll them other `stralian amingals like marsupials an' such crawled into the warp an' got zapped to `stralia. Cave amingals got zapped to their respected caves an' the amingals outside each respected cave that look like the amingals inside the caves got zapped outside of each respected cave.
Awlso, thuh orderly progression of amingals in thuh fossil record from less complex to more complex over time in thuh geological strata is `cause that's how they wuz arranged by thuh dinosaur farmers back then.
Thars a whole bunch of other stuff I would like to suggest to you, but I think ahll just be wastin' mah time `cause you obviously know everything. Dag nabbit, them dang scientists aint got nuttin' on you when it comes to this scientifical stuff. An' to think, they been diligently studyin' this stuff awll their lives an' you aint never even studied it yet you know more'n they do. Dag you're smart. Now imagine if'n you did study this stuff. You would probably be as smart as god.
A valuable resource........2006-06-11
This is a valuable resource for any Christian to have. It is especially great for homeschool families and parents who wish to ground their children in the truths of the Bible before they leave home. My children enjoy reading this book and it has helped all of us to learn much and to be ready with an answer to those who question us. This should be in every Christian family's library!
The Suprareal (Beyond the Real).......2006-04-20
A basic overview of the Gospels offers an example of how Old Testament texts are often spiritualized to say things about Jesus they were never intended to say in context. So that they appear to validate his person and messiahship, historically, even though they actually do not. That is, if examining the issue from a factual-based perspective. And, of course, the world of science is about factual bases for all we know and think to be true or untrue. Thus, it is no wonder recognized scientists (genuine scholars having actual credentials in the field in question) never write books like this. Since science is about the actual data of the dig or experiment. But, if genuine, authenticating, empirical science is what you are looking for, you will not desire this book. Against a mass of well-documented evidence supporting today's genuine scientific claims, this book spends relatively few pages taking cheap shots, presenting inaccurate analyses, and offering false information in its attempt to support its suprareal (Xian fundamentalistic) vision of earth history. A much more genuine and honest look might be "Finding Darwin's God" by a renowned biologist, and Christian, Kenneth R. Miller.
Creative Science.......2006-03-30
The Answers book answers many questions some of us have never asked. 1/ Who would write such pointless dribble. 2/ Who would believe such pointless dribble. And so on.
The book goes on to attempt to explain how and why the Earth cannot be as old as science tells us. It is presented in an easy to read fashion with nice large, clear and eye pleasing fonts (that is where my praise for the book ends).
The book moves at length to discredit scientific theory and constantly ties evolution to anti-christian sentiments. The book attempts to discredit evolution by ridiculing the science behind it.
Common arguments against evolution include the complexity of the human eye to the bombardier beetle. How could such a complex system evolve it must have been created. How was a 747 built it must have been created / those stupid wright brothers what were they doing mucking around with that flyer when all they to do was build a 747 and wallah!
OR did we have to evolve our understanding of mechanics, avionichs, electronics, computers etc... to build a 747 it didn't happen overnight but it did happen.
Same as NASA whats the deal with the space shuttle lets all zoom around in the Starship Enterprise. If we can develop and build such complex systems in only 50-60years then surely nature given it's 4.5-5billion years could develop a human eye. Evolution is a natuaral process.
The book has a nice glossy cover with eye catching writing. What caught me was "new improved edition and updated" (OK WHAT WAS THE OLD ONE LIKE). It gets one star for layout.
Ohh it dosn't contradict itself much either at one point it claims the Earth is in the order of 6000-1000yrs old and another point it concedes that to fully account for carbon dating the Earth must be atleast 50000years old. hmmmmmmm..... It's all in black and white.

Hundertwasser Ideas & Concepts: Is America Ready for a Design Revolution?.......2007-07-13
I fell in love with the work of Antoni Gaudi during a visit to Barcelona in the 1990's, and frankly wondered why his delightful ideas were never widely emulated. During a recent visit to the design studio of Metal Artist Brett Goldstone, Brett showed me a copy of "Hundertwasser Architecture" and I was immediately hooked! His revolutionary ideas on "human architecture" should be compulsory reading at every school of architecture and every city planning department! It's time we brought more life into our living and working environments; Hundertwasser's design and architectural concepts should at the very least be considered.

Architecture for the People.......2003-11-27
Hundertwasser Architecture: For a More Human Architecture in Harmony With Nature Is an amazing look at Hundertwasser's structures and ideas about structure. For builders, designers, architects who believe in building structures which flow with both their environment and their function, this book is nothing short of inspirational. Many ideas for not only building and designing from the raw ground but also for retrofitting and improving existing structures. Hundertwasser's ideas that the buildings should "belong" to the users: trees, people's interactions with the space, allowing those who inhabit the building to have a bit of control of the building so they are committed to the structure and not just passing through are all expressed here. Designers of stucco boxes could benefit from his ideas.
Why Can't We All Live in Places Like This?.......1999-12-29
I spent much of the 60s and 70s with posters of Hundertwasser's paintings on my walls. It was always clear that he was an architect, but one without any commissions. So when I came across this book, I was ecstatic. He's actually building! He is freeing us from the tyranny of straight lines, 90 degree angles, and an architecture divorced from nature. Some of his buildings are like something out of Willa Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!
I'd love to live in a city filled with Hundertwassers rather than the neo-prison building that passes for architecture these days. And so would others -- rents at Hundertwasser buildings in Vienna fetch a huge premium. And he is regreening cities at the same time. I can't wait to go visit!
This book is also wonderful for preteens -- it will stretch their minds about what is possible -- and give new reason to study the math and physics necessary to realize the cities of our dreams.
This book was my Christmas present to myself (I also gave it to others), and it was the best present I got! Every time I open it, I want to sing!
Filled with innovative solutions to sustainability problems........1999-10-18
The ideas in this book expolore the relationship of manmade structures to nature. Hundertwasser displays many of his creative solutions to keeping green spaces while still making spaces for people to live. He addresses the human side of sustainability by forming spaces that "make the whole person vibrate" with life.
Very Interesting!.......1998-10-19
This book about this extravagant architect is a very nice edition, including beautiful images and clearly explained background information. I regret not having bought this book from Amazon, though; I purchased it in Belgium, at a much, much higher price, and still I think it was worth it. Certainly a great addition to your personal art library. Buy it and enjoy!
