For any woman, or for that matter man, who has experienced personally or vicariously the agony of being held in thrall to painful relationships, this book is essential. The author presents numerous examples from her clinical practice of women whose lives have spiraled into painful despair, and while our familiarity with what we read can encourage us, the author's unflinching look into every woman's complicity is not for the faint of heart. This is not 'love' but degrading self-torture. I urge you, if you are such a woman, if you know such a woman, get this book and get reading.

When this book first came out I read it and it opened my eyes. I then went into private and group therapy for about 4months and then just group therapy for being an adult child of an alcoholic. It was something I wished I had done earlier. The cost of therapy after my covrage changed and new responsibilites ended my therapy after around 7 months. I had a great therapist. The author really explains the dynamics of how our relationships develop very well. I've read both of her books. In the second one " Letter's from Women Who Love Too Much" ( it also includes letters from men)she points out how peer therapy seems the most effective form of therapy for such issues. She had stopped doing private therapy at that point. A worthwhile book.

I have to honestly say, when it comes to this book, it is like the Bible in my life on relationships. I was sexually abused as a teen and my mother was an alcoholic/drug abuser, and my father was a philanderer, resulting in my parents' divorce when I was 11. I loved my father dearly but it seemed as I got into adulthood I would seek out partners, subconsiously, who were like my father, resulting in immense pain for me. I am the oldest of my parents' 3 children so you can imagine how much responsibility was on me when my mother was absent. I have had this book for 5 years now and it has helped me to gain strength to become emotionally free of my ex, who hurt me repeatedly over the years because without realizing it, I LET him. I have recently let go of a narcissist who deeply wounded me after I found out about his lies, manipulation, and cheating. I have learned, though this book, that I have to love myself more and recognize the self-defeating behaviors I displayed that allowed these men to hurt me. I would rather be alone and wait patiently for the right man to love me in the manner I deserved to be loved, than to put up with unacceptable behavior from emotionally disturbed men. I realized that I needed to change in order to stop the pain, not them. Self absorbed, selfish men are incaple of change because they are incapable of empathy, remorse, or even love. Thank you, thank you Robin for writing such a inspirational, helpful book!

I have read women who love too much and am currently in recovery and that book along with this one that I just purchased has had an amazing impact on my life. It is truly a blessing that this material is available to women.

I loved the original book (I also reviewed it) and I needed so much help to get out of "love too much" pattern with my ex husband. So I got this book. Daily meditations are indeed in line with all learned in the book, they are sort of daily reminders of all the little things we did wrong and all the things we need to change about US, but actually meditating on these, reading one per day seemed so corny. So I flipped thru it randomly and read several at one time until I would get tired, and then come back to it some other time. It might have worked better if I used it as prescribed, but I was too screwed up at the time. Unfortunately. For closing, here is one of my favorites: "We are certain that if we show someone how much we love him, no matter how he treats us, he will change. What we are really showing him is that it is safe for him to remain the same". Boy, was I champion of this particular mistake!

I've given/recommended this book to several off my friends and family members. It's genuinely helpful and doesn't toss in the clinical bullcrap that comes along with "selfhelp" books.

A very painful divorce and a subsequent tumultuous relationship forced me to face issues I had never faced from my childhood. I read book after book and there were many that helped to uncover what was underneath the behaviors I had developed. But of all the books, I consider this meditation book for Women Who Love Too Much to be my handbook for survival and true change. Whenever I feel myself slipping, I pick up the book and read it from cover to cover. I have many pages dog-eared that are particularly appropriate. I can't recommend it enough.

I loved reading this book daily. Some meditations did not "really apply" for my situation but they made me think. It made me realize a lot of things, and I even used some thoughts as quotes that I sent to friends via email. I must say that it is a little book with a lot of wisdom.

Not only is this a beautiful book but very informative about the Pacific Northwest's bounty of seafood. I work at an exclusive Country Club and took this book to our Chef; that week end he served a couple of recipes from it. Also I enjoyed reading the history of Ray's Boathouse.

My mother loves Coconut Prawns and I think that is why she purchased this cookbook. She has been so kind as to lend it to me for a few weeks. If you love seafood you will find recipes for everything from Black Pepper Dungeness Crab to Ray's Crab and Corn Chowder. You may enjoy trying recipes for the Parmesan-Crusted Halibut or the Pan Roasted Copper River Sockeye Salmon on a bed of sweet corn and fiddlehead ferns.

Well, actually, if you are in Seattle, why not just visit this restaurant. We love Rays and I'm happy my mother bought this cookbook. She might not be seeing it for a few more months although she might be seeing me because I found a $10 off coupon for a lunch or dinner at Ray's Boathouse.
While many of the recipes look very gourmet in the pictures, they are not difficult to make and your only real concern will be where to find the freshest seafood possible in your local area. Amazon also has a gourmet food section so you can look for Scharffen Berger bittersweet chocolate for the chocolate indulgence recipe. You need at least three 9.7-ounce bars and the recipe serves 12.

Simply A Beautiful Seafood Cookbook.......2004-03-05
This is a rare find---a local cookbook which is first class, in both its layout and recipe accumen.
The photography here is breathtaking, as it would appear the views are from this Puget Sound restraurant. Their is early into this book a two-page sunset which is simply breathtaking. This is followed by nice history of the restaurant, which now includes as one of the owners Jack Sikma of Sonics fame.
Trying to find good Pacific Northwest recipes, this one certainly provides that in abundance. Especially seafood with its Ray's Cafe Seafood Margarita; Shrimp-Stuffed Artichokes with Herbed Cream Cheese; Dungeness Crab & Rock Shrimp Cakes with Ancho Chile Mayo; Grilled Copper River King Salmon with Pinot Noir Sauce; Ray's Cafe Salmon Burger with Basil Mayo and Wasabi Slaw; Parmesan Crusted Halibut with Roasted Tomato and Artichoke Ragout; Yakima Peach & Blackberry Crisp with Caramel Sauce;

Essential reading for the tea fanatic........2006-02-11
This is primarily a book on the story of tea. The history is fascinating and invaluable to the avid tea drinker. More than half the book Pratt dedicates to tea history. Here, I love his eye for the little things that count.
Following this, the author describes the various teas throughout the world. This is more than just a list, but a detailed look at the regions that produce them, the technique and conditions that impart their unique characteristics.
Part three concludes with the author's own advice on tea preparation, and a consise but adequate discourse on tea ritual.
After reading this book my respect and adoration for tea skyrocketed yet again (see "The Tea Lover's Companion"). Most importantly, my enjoyment of tea drinking has increased after reading this book. That alone makes this book priceless.

MUST read BEFORE you marry into a family with children!!.......2007-08-03
For my situation, this did not apply until about the third to the last page. Until I got to that page of pertinence, I thought, "I wish I would have read this book several years ago."
This is a good combination of common sense, good advice and interesting introspect. Some hard to hear but astute lessons are here. Reading this before marriage would have saved me a lot of headache and heartache. Simple, straightforward and easily applicable.
The sample group of women that the author refers to as the people she interviewed for the writing of this book are as varied as there are women in the world. It was great to hear that some of the women interviewed were: younger, older, working, stay at home, resentful, dedicated, loyal, forgiving, and one ultimately was divorced. It makes it clear to the reader that not just one kind of stepmom is successful and that if you feel guilty, unloved, unloving or unmotivated, you aren't alone, aren't abnormal and aren't wrong. Women from any perspecive will find valuable information in this book.
I was married for three years and went through hell and back before this was recommended to me. I wish I had found it sooner.
(If you feel unsupported by your husband, you won't find anything that will make you feel better until almost the end of the book. Read the whole thing anyway...it is all pertinent. Either divorce him, don't marry him, or read this book to him.)

I was once engaged to a wonderful divorced man with a child until I panicked and called off the wedding. I really miss him and was hoping to find courage in taking on the stepmother role. But I cannot agree more with Ms. Dowdall's review below that this book is packed with information but is depressing. Reading it, I felt that perhaps I had been lucky to get out of the relationship in time. If I am judging solely the information contained in the book, I would give it 4 stars, but for the negative emotional impact, I would have to give it 2 stars, coming out to be an average of 3 stars.
hmm, not what i was looking for..........2007-01-09
i havent finished this book. probably won't. I have no children of my own and am planning on becoming part of a family with my boyfriend and his 2 children (deceased mother). And after reading the book, i feel like most of the information is common sense... it just seems like my idea of a stepmother is exactly that.... not a mother. another female other than the mother helping to raise the children... right? do most people not feel like that? (these are my questions after reading most of this book). i will keep the book for reference. but it wasnt very helpful. more confusing for me.

Tolstoy said it better, but the truth is that no one book can address every step-situation. That said, this is a decent primer for the woman contemplating the plunge into stepmotherhood. I liked the practical and logistical advice, and while I understand why some might complain that the picture painted isn't as cheery as they'd like, it is, for the most part, a real picture. The chapter on ex-wives barely scratches the surface and I would recommend "Women of Divorce" as an apt resource on that issue. The stepmother-to-be will need all the help she can get, and this book's authors do a good job of conveying their sympathy and encouragement for the road ahead. Best advice I read was the reminder that negative reactions are more role-oritented than personal. Hold that thought, and good luck!

This book is a replica of my father's original binder he published in 1978.It shows how to establish the perfect swing, which my father originated way back in early 1900's from teachings by Harry Vardon & Walter Hagen. This book will show and teach you every phase of golf, including many exercises that will help your game of golf. About 80% of golf pro's from the early 30's to the present have tried teaching this method but it's not the same as my father doing it. He was called the "King of Swing" by Henry Pippen the English golfer, and this was long before Sam Snead or anyone else got the nickname. In this book it will also show the difference between a concave and convex grip, which most golf pro's today can not define. After learning the short and putting game, you will no doubt cut 5-7 strokes off your game and down the road you will see 10 or better strokes bettering your game. This book has sections in it that need to be read over again to be sure you have the grips and what have you down pat.
