Never mind who did the deed with New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum at the end of High Five. Five months later, that night's only a dim, cherished memory, and Stephanie's freezing her butt off on a Trenton bridge trying to keep her friend Carol--caught shoplifting some crotchless panties she was too embarrassed to buy--from committing suicide.
Truth is, I didn't for a minute think she'd jump. For one thing, she was wearing a four-hundred-dollar jacket from Wilson Leather. You just don't jump off a bridge in a four-hundred-dollar jacket. It isn't done. The jacket would get ruined. Carol was from the Chambersburg section of Trenton, just like me, and in the Burg you gave the jacket to your sister, then you jumped off the bridge.
When Stephanie finally talks Carol down and makes it in to work at Vincent Plum Bail Bonds, it's only to find that her libido-boosting pal Ranger, the professional bounty hunter and sometime hit man, has disappeared. A building owned by black-market arms dealer Alexander Ramos has burned down, with Ramos's son Homer lying inside, dead from a gunshot wound. Ranger, who was caught on film there by video cameras, is wanted for questioning. Stephanie's boss Vinnie wants her to find him, but Stephanie, who knows she won't find Ranger if he doesn't want to be found, refuses. Soon everyone, from her cop boyfriend Joe Morelli to the two Laurel and Hardy wannabes who suddenly start following her around Trenton in a badass black Lincoln, thinks she's hot on Ranger's trail.
And Stephanie's got other things to worry about. For one thing, Grandma Mazur's moved in with her, and so has Bob, a golden retriever who's only partly house trained. Then Ranger starts popping up at odd times of the night, with instructions for Stephanie to keep an eye on another Ramos son, Hannibal. Add to that one homicidal maniac, a couple more dead bodies, Stephanie's usual bad car karma, and the zit from hell, and you've got yourself one fine Stephanie Plum adventure. Will Stephanie triumph? You can bet a jelly doughnut on it. And there's another great cliffhanger waiting at the end. --Barrie Trinkle
Book Description
Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is faced with her most daunting task yet: bring in the mysterious former Special Forces agent Carlos Manoso (aka Ranger). He's the man who taught her everything about fugitive apprehension, and Stephanie knows she will be testing her skills against the master. But even if she does catch him, she's not so sure she could turn in her friend-even if he is wanted for murder....And if this isn't enough to keep her up at night, Grandma Mazur is crimping her sex life by moving in with her and keeping her from getting any action from her cop boyfriend, Joe Morelli. Now, with her love life messing with her head, two threatening goons on her tail, and three corpses-so far-it's getting a little too hot for Stephanie whose search for Ranger is bringing her dangerously close to the wrong side of the law....AUTHORBIO: Bestselling author JANET EVANOVICH is the recipient of the Crime Writers Association's John Creasey Memorial, Last Laugh, and Silver Dagger awards, as well as the Left Coast Crime's Lefty award, and is the two-time recipient of the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association's Dilys award. She lives in New Hampshire, where she is at work on her next Stephanie Plum adventure.

Stephanie Plum series.......2007-09-02
I love the Stephanie Plum series of novels. I really hate reading so I purchase them both in audio for me and paperback for houseguests and friends. I'm drawn in with the excitment and adventure of the story that Janet seems to capture in every novel. It has twists, turns, Lula, mystery, wonder, and of course two very "HOT" men! Who wouldn't want a mix of both men. :} I would recommend the "Plum" series, her "Full" series, as well as her earlier novels of mixed titles. They're all great fun and keep you as a reader at the edge of your seat waiting to see if a cars going to get blown up, who's died this week, who attends the pot roast dinner, who she sleeps with next, what will burn down next, and will she get her man (love or bounty). I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. I look forward to #14 in the "Plum" series, the next "Full" novel, and the new novel Janet recently wrote with a new author being released this October. Thank you!
HOT SIX BY JANET EVANOVICH.......2007-08-16
SAME BASIC FORMAT AS PREVIOUS NOVELS. TORN BETWEEN TWO LOVERS.A FEW LAUGHS ALONG THE WAY.
Best One Yet.......2007-08-08
Love the series and this was a fantastic story in the series. Fun, sexy and hilarious, I love it and I look forward to reading the next one.
HOT SIX.......2007-06-01
This is the sixth part in the Stephanie Plum series. None of these short, easy reads should be taken seriously, and if you are looking for a book to build brain cells, keep looking. You will enjoy this series more if you know what to expect out of the books and can read them for what they are: silly, fun, sexy, and full of giggles. All six, for me, have been light and funny, all six having the same flavor. But like eating six - not so good for you - yet, tasty potato chips, you tend to want another with a sense of mindless habitual consumption.

Stephanie Plum Bounty Hunter by Janet Evanovich.......2007-07-25
Plum Boxed Set 1 (1, 2, 3)]][Plum Boxed Set 2 (4, 5, 6)Plum Boxed Set 3 (7, 8, 9)Novel)]]
I LOVE reading about Stephanie Plum and her hilarious mysteries. She is a bounty hunter, of all things. She finds herself in the most bizarre situations. I can hardly wait to order the next set of books because they are so well written and FUNNY! There have been times when I have been reading along and have laughed right out loud. Did I say in the doctor's office, beauty shop, dentist's office, at home? Her books are also very intriguing as mysteries. Her 2 love interests add an additional element of intrigue to this series. The other characters in her books are very well done. Her family is quite a family, especially Grandma. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries and loves to laugh. I hope she stays just ahead of me in writing. I can't wait to read the next book!!!
Wonder author, wonderful books.......2007-07-20
Get the great series by Janet Evanovich! If you never lived in "Jersey", you will wonder. If you have, you will laugh! Characters are real, situations vary from insane to insanely weird (how about a car that ends up 12 inches thick?) but all the way through, you keep thinking, "Could I do that? Have I done that?"
Wonderful!.......2007-06-09
I loved these books! I'm a big fan of the Stephanie Plum series and have enjoyed these very much. My husband read them too, and we both laughed out loud while reading. They are very entertaining and move quickly-easy reads. I recommend them!

Customer Reviews:
good quality.......2007-03-26
old school cassette thus not as portable as audible style ones but the plus side is you can sell it or give it away when you're done like a book. Some day some rich guy's gonna sue for the right to give away or sell our digital music or audible licenses so they can be resold or traded like hardcopy styles like this can. Until that happens I'll continue to recommend cassette like this over digital versions.
Evanovich Does It Again -- And Does It Well.......2002-09-30
Janot Evanovich, author of the Stephanie Plum mystery series, has a hilarious writing style that both pulls readers into her stories and makes them laugh out loud. The audio versions of these stories are no different and in fact are possibly more amusing thanks to the vocal talents of Debi Mazar. Her Jersey-girl accent makes it feel like Stephanie is in the room with you and telling you about her mishaps, of which there are many. If there is ever a movie starring this plucky and clutzy bounty hunter, I would encourage casting agents to seriously consider Mazar. Her attitude and way of speaking fit the stories to perfection. These audio versions are abridged, which saves time but cuts out parts of each book. For anyone who has yet to read the books, I would encourage you to do so before listening to this format.
How can you cut Evanovich's words?.......2002-07-26
This series is toooooo good to cut a single word. I adore the analogies, characters, and descriptions in these books - I was sorely dissapointed to find these audio versions abridged.
DO THEM OVER UNABRIDGED and I will purchase every single audio and enjoy what I've already read and fell in love with.
Who makes these decisions and what in the world were they thinking????

"Singles: Six Decades of Hot Hits & Classic Cuts" is simply not to be missed........2007-03-06
"Singles: Six Decades of Hot Hits & Classic Cuts" is one of those glitzy titles that makes the perfect eye-catching, impressive gift or public library display. It's presented in a thick, oversized format but requires a British pop focus to fully appreciate - and also an affection for singles which have provided the sound tracks for memorable moments. Individual single hits are the focus here, using plenty of colorful photos, blending in an overall history of popular music, and profiling and impact of radio and TV on single hits. With its coverage of such hits, "Singles: Six Decades of Hot Hits & Classic Cuts" is simply not to be missed.
Awesome book!.......2007-01-05
Being a music geek, I picked this book up at BJ's (for $20). I own many Billboard books, but none of those are much fun as this. Each year has 12 to 20 songs' release dates, record labels and numbers, and peak numbers for both the US and the UK chart plus anywhere from a paragraph to a whole page explaining the history of every song included from 1954 to 2006. Interesting general pop music history essays show up every once in a while. There are well-known songs and songs I have never heard. Every page is in color. It's a great book to have and a steal at the $20 I paid for it.

Customer Reviews:
unbalanced and often sparse.......2002-11-02
While it contains some useful information, this book is rather haphazardly written. Some years are beyond skimpy, and the information is in several areas dubious at best, if not blatantly erroneous. The anonymous author's tone is occasionally supercilious (think Joe Queenan), which is fine, if you're into that sort of stuff. I think the author finagled a way to give himself the one good review.
Flawed as a reference tool, but somewhat entertaining.......2002-08-07
I purchased this book as a background reference, and was disappointed overall with its quality. Each year is divided into categories such as The Movies, The Players, Music, Literature, In the News, Sports, Television, and Fads & Fashion. The information provided for each section is sporadic and, in some cases, nonexistent. For instance, the movie Peyton Place is mentioned (1957) as is the television series (1964), but there is no mention of the book's publication in 1956. In fact there is only one book mentioned for that year and others, and no Literature entry at all for several years. (The '50s are particularly skimpy.) Apparently the only noteworthy happening during 1961 in the world of books was Hemingway's suicide. The subtitle claims "a roller coaster ride through six decades of pop culture in America," but it starts in the 1950s and ends with the year 2000. Isn't that five decades plus one year? Some entries are more review than revelation, and the psedonymous Biddle (it's not wonder a fake name was needed) calls Raiders of the Lost Ark "loud and crass," Braveheart a "depressing downer," yet oozes over louder, crasser, and far more depressing films. The author also claims the term "baby boomer" was coined as late as 1984. In addition to factual errors, omissions, and unwarranted commentary, the editing is slipshod, the text riddled with comma splices and huge paragraphs about the O.J. episode that slip from present to past tense about every other sentence. There are better books, It Was a Very Good Year: A Cultural History of the U.S. from 1776 to the Present by Vincent dePaul Lupiano and Ken Sayers for example, which is unfortunately out of print. It's far more thorough and even has an index. This book was entertaining at times, but that was derived mainly from imagining what sort of writer would use so smug and pompous a tone in such a haphazardly assembled book.
I liked it. I really liked it!.......1998-02-13
This was so much fun to read, I read it twice. I used it all the time as a reference book, too.

Funny, exciting, sexy.......2006-02-01
These books are an absolute hoot. You will find yourself giggling on every other page. Stephanie Plum is the bomb, Ranger is sexy and Joe is sexy and funny. Enjoyed all the books of this series 1 - 6, now I'm ready for 7 - 10.
The mystery of my order.......2005-09-30
I ordered this item on July 5. It is currently after September 30th, the last end-date of the last delay amazon.com gave me, and I still haven't gotten it. It has been delayed three times, but I've only been updated about these changes at least a day after the estimated delivery date. According to a few e-mails from Amazon, their supplier is being slow and not notifying them. Their new 'estimated delivery date' is October 28 through November 14th.
I have read the first two books of the series, and believe that I will like the next four, that is, if I ever get them.
Drag Queens, Counterfeiters, Fire Bombs, Jealousy, and SEX!.......2004-09-10
In Four to Score, Janet Evanovich has written her wackiest book among the first four. Some of the highlights include a coded set of mystery clues followed by a close encounter ending, a transvestite band, a jealous lover, a woman scorned, progress in the budding Morelli-Plum relationship, and torture. And those are just some of the complications. Each amazing complication is done with the maximum humor imaginable!
The Sally Sweet character is probably her most memorable character. Old nemesis Joyce Barnhardt does favors for Cousin Vinny and gets to compete with Stephanie Plum for a job bringing in Maxine Nowicki. As usual, Stephanie can find Maxine, but has a hard time apprehending her. In the meantime, someone's making threats, pouring gasoline over her car, and firebombing wherever she lives. The people she contacts to find Maxine keep turning up with strange wounds, and are very silent about Maxine's whereabouts. She seems to hit cold trail after cold trail.
You should be able to solve the mystery about half way through. This was one of Evanovich's more transparent efforts. But the mystery is really beside the point. To focus on that would be like studying history instead of partying during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The story of Stephanie Plum and her relationship to the other characters are where you'll find the attraction in this book.
The scenes, the set-ups, and the dialogue are marvelous. If you have a friend who is also reading the series, you'll be trading lines before you're done with this book.
After you have read and enjoyed this book, consider how little straight comedy is written now in fiction form. Almost all of it is in the context of crime and mystery novels. What does that say about our tastes and society's state? What would a non-bounty hunting, funny Stephanie Plum be like? I suspect she could be just as funny. In many ways, she is the Lucille Ball of the 1996-2004 period.
Overcome your stalled thinking about how much fun a book can be with this one!
The best series EVER !.......2003-09-19
It's hard to believe that more people haven't written reviews for these books: all of Janet Evanovich's series, 1 thru 9, are fast, fun reads !
They should all be made into movies, great story lines.
Non Stop Fun.......2002-11-15
I guess you have to have a sense of the absurd to enjoy these books. Or to have experienced being female, single over 30 and feeling directionless. None-the-less, these books are laugh your rear off funny and entertaining. They are not to be taken seriously but they are cetainly to be enjoyed.
