The New Natural Cat: A Complete Guide for Finicky Owners
ASIN: 1592532667 |
Book Description
If it were a simple choice, many people would choose to treat and care for their pets with natural therapies. Unfortunately, most cat care-givers find the expectations and requirements of natural pet health care fairly imposing and outside their reality in regards to cat care. Unlike the other resources on the subject, Whole Health for Happy Cats provides readers with the basic information to enable them to ask the right questions as well as find the right answers for their cat and their lifestyle. For individuals interested in caring for their cat without the use of drugs or chemicals, Whole Health for Happy Cats will enable them to incorporate holistic treatments into their lifestyle and benefit from reduced health care costs and a longer and healthier life for their cat. Although the book's approach is organic, it also presents well-documented health facts and research so that cat owners can make the very best decisions for their cat's lifelong health and well-being.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Book!.......2007-10-08
I just can't say enough wonderful things about this book. Before I got this book, I was interested in switching my cats to a raw food diet, but did not know how to do it and thought it would be time consuming and that I would mess it up and hurt my cats in the process. Now after reading this book and following Sandy's advice and recipes, I am happy to say that even my most finicky kitty is enjoying the benefits of a raw food diet. I am confident that I am preparing them healthy, nourishing food, best of all, I know exactly what is in thier food! Not only have I saved money by no longer buying commercial pet food, but my cats seem to really enjoy mealtimes more. My cats and I thank you Sandy for such a wonderful book. I will be getting a copy for my sister since she has just adopted two kittens so they can have a healthy start. If you are a cat parent, buy this book, you won't regret it.
What a great book for caring cat lovers!.......2007-09-27
I first became acquainted with the author through her Holisticat cat health list. I can't even tell you how helpful that list was to me, offering alternatives to what my vet was telling me was the ONLY course of action for a beloved pet.
This book, the result of years of Sandy's own research and input from cat health experts and feline enthusiasts alike, is superb.
It's not meant to be a medical handbook. Rather, what it does is offer lots of information about what it takes to keep your favorite feline happy and healthy. Preventive care is the focus. If you want to know more about specific illnesses and want great depth in that info, buy Dr. Goldstein's book instad.
Get this one for the following reasons:
1) the author clearly loves the animals she's writing about; her compassion for them and the love she feels for them come through on every page;
2) the author's clear explanations, including substitutions and warnings;
3) the author's thoroughness with her chosen subject matter; and
4) the invaluable information itself, especially the dietary info.
Buy this book; you won't regret the purchase.
Excellent Beginners Guide.......2007-07-08
Well-designed, written, and bulleted, peppered with graphs, recipes and action-oriented questions with illustrated answers, using lots of color photos on glossy paper... it is not remotely boring.
Love the simplicity and action-oriented perspective. It really IS a "guide" in how to improve the quality of life for a pet, and would be a great starter for any pet owner who wants a quick overview.
P.S. Also adds in cute little trivia... for example:
"Did you know... a group of kittens = 'kindle' and a group of cats is a 'clowder?'" Too cute, riiiight?
The BEST Cat Care Bible.......2007-04-09
Over the years, I have read and consulted many animal and cat care resources for a variety of reasons. I first got into holistic animal care when my best friend, Nina the cat, was dying and no traditional vet could help & I had no clue about this stuff. Since then, I discovered numerous books but none has been as informative and up-to-date as this one.
Not only is the information coming from both personal experience and from veterinary approved sources, but Sandy Arora speaks to you in her book as a compassionate, understanding friend who wants to help & has been in your shoes many times.
Unfortunately, in animal-care circles, you can also encounter many who only want to 'preach' or condemn you and make you feel bad, for doing things a bit differently or your own way. None of that can be found here, for Arora offers alternative ways of doing things, especially if you do not have the time, resources or inclination of feeding an exclusively raw diet to your cat. This is a refreshing, gentle, informative and paws-down best book I have ever found, with methods that really WORK.
Opened my eyes!.......2007-01-24
I love my cats and always want to do what is best for them. Imagine my surprise when the author proved logically to me that I wasn't helping keep my pets happy and healthy.
One of my cats has food allergies, and I thought I would have to deal with his sensitive stomach for the rest of his life (15+ years, hopefully). My other cat is overweight. Now they are on a raw diet (commercially produced). Even though it took some persistence, both cats are healthier and happier. Our sensitive stomach cat has thrown up a grand total of once in the last six weeks (when he started the raw diet); he used to throw up at least every other day, even on the hypoallergenic food. Our fat cat has lost weight and has much more energy. She still gets dry food at night, but we treat it like dessert and she only gets a tiny amount.
Both cats also have terribly anxiety about going to the vet. We have successfully used Rescue Remedy (suitably diluted) to calm their stress. My vet thinks I'm crazy, but she can't argue with the results.
Thanks, Ms. Arora, for helping me improve my cats' quality of life. If my cats are happy, I'm happy.

Customer Reviews:
A Landmark Design Book.......2005-11-10
This must be the first full book-length study of the increasingly popular subject of outdoor kitchens and cooking. The author's style is precise and easy, allowing the reader to understand the history of cooking outdoors, which, after all, is how cooking got started. The book is beautifully produced, with a profusion of color illustrations and drawings which illustrate the text's in-depth approach to all aspects of the subject. From simple outdoor grilling to the design and construction of a custom, high-end outdoor kitchen and dining area, the reader can develop a better feel for the glorious benefits of cooking by fire. A useful index of resources for products is included at the end.
Not to be ignored are the many sidebars in the book, many of which provide essential information, such as those relating to choosing grills, the estimation of food servings for groups, cleaning a grill and food safety when outdoors. Major chefs and designers who specialize in outdoor cooking and grilling are interviewed, including 'Barbeque Bible' maestro Steven Raichlen, Dwayne Ridgaway, Food Network star Paula Deen, Richard Sandoval (author of Modern Mexican Flavors) and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que owner John Stage.
We can't all afford to spend a fortune on a full-blown outdoor kitchen, but Amanda Lecky's book is a great resource for outdoor large and small, and is worth more than its weight in (gold or otherwise) briquettes. Outdoor cooking has never been so fully analyzed and featured and this book makes you want to run out on the patio, fight the fall chill and grill a great meal.

Customer Reviews:
Fun and Inspirational.......2007-08-09
This book is loaded with fun and funky ideas for any artist. Some reviewers mentioned that they believe the ideas contained here to be geared more toward altered book artists, but I disagree. Any artist can adapt the principles found in this book to inspire their own work. This book is a go-to resource for me on a regular basis. Love it!
Best guide for collage.......2007-07-30
This book is well laid-out and easy to follow. The illustrations are exciting and explanatory. This allows me to use a little or a lot of collage in my artwork.
Definitely has some inspiration but..........2007-05-18
I collect a lot of books as an artist because I like to have multiple avenues of inspiration around me when I'm creating. This book definitely has many ideas but my one problem with it is that it's not that well organized. It covers each letter in the alphabet, like the title suggests, but jumps around, is not sequential, and the connections to each letter are not predictable so you really have to look through the whole book to find each idea. Letters for key words are repeated throughout the book...though the ideas are all original. For example: B is for buckle; B is for blocks; B is for brainstorming...etc.
For a quick reference however, it's great. Nice imagery and exemplars, with some inspirational ideas. If you are a book artist looking for more ways to alter and express your ideas, this is a great resource. If you are an artist looking to enhance your journals...this is a great book. If you are a teacher, this is also a great resource.
The back end of the book has 27 pages of workshops with detailed ideas. Here are some examples: Faux & Ancient Surfaces; Transparencies; Attachments; Building a Surface with Patterning; Metal Tape and Altered Images; Creating with Recycled Papers; Working Intuitively.
Each workshop page has an inspirational related quote, what to try, how to get started, tips, creating, a list of influences/exemplary artists, and studio essentials- a list of materials needed to complete this workshop.
Portable Inspiration.......2007-03-24
I love the ability to take this book with me wherever I want to go to fuel my inspirational fires whenever needed. This slim book is about the size of a magazine, so it'll go into a backpack or any other kind of "carrying bag" with ease. Even though there are few pages compared to some art books, this book is FULL. Not one centimeter of this book was left untouched by the talents of the artists collaborating on this project. I'm hungry for more and will certainly be making future purchase from any one of the artists listed in this book.
So many ideas!.......2007-03-08
A very interesting book. I have only tried one idea from it so far, but I was impressed with the results.

Book Description
In a world whose seasons are defined by Christmas sales and Spring Fashions, hundreds of tiny nomes live in the corners and crannies of a human-run department store. They have made their homes beneath the floorboards for generations and no longer remember -- or even believe in -- life beyond the Store walls.
Until the day a small band of nomes arrives at the Store from the Outside. Led by a young nome named Masklin, the Outsiders carry a mysterious black box (called the Thing), and they deliver devastating news: In twenty-one days, the Store will be destroyed.
Now all the nomes must learn to work together, and they must learn to think -- and to think BIG.
Part satire, part parable, and part adventure story par excellence, master storyteller Terry Pratchett's engaging trilogy traces the nomes' flight and search for safety, a search that leads them to discover their own astonishing origins and takes them beyond their wildest dreams.
Customer Reviews:
A children's book for adults.......2007-05-15
These stories have everything. Humor, imagination, satire, an exciting plot, plucky characters, adn philosophical musings. Pratchett gently makes fun of religion and pomposity, making you laugh all the way.
As good as Discworld.......2007-05-12
I say this with a caveat. Some discworld novels just are not for kids. Also, I had no idea what these books were about when I bought this anthology so if it seems strange for a 34 year old to burst out laughing at a children's novel, just forgive me.
The fact that Terry Pratchett was the author was the reason I bought this and by the second page I was in love all over again. It was like finding a new discworld, this "store." Some of the absurdities that we adults take for granted in our crass commercialized world get a good seeing to from a child's point of view.
Pratchett's wit once again has bowled me over and I would recommend this to any child or adult that I know.
Great Terry Pratchett!.......2007-03-26
This book is a great read. Very interesting writing and yet simple enough my 3rd grader could read it too!
I highly recommend it to those that love sci-fantasy with a lot of humor.
Inventive, endearing, great read-aloud. .......2006-09-26
When we finished "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" I read this trilogy to my 11 year old daughter. What fun! The plot is lively, the characters are endearing and Pratchett gets his point about religion across with precise use of analogy. The story drags in places, but never for long. The witty dialogue and thought provoking ideas more than make up for it. I enjoyed it at least as much as my daughter did, if not more.
Oh my Gosh!.......2006-02-09
My teacher who has over 3,000 books in her classroom reccomended this book. And I also like Terry Pratchett. bUT THIS WAS A FLAT OUT DISSAPOINTMENT. I quit after the 1st 30 pages. He was very slow in his writings. And he overloads a tad on his British sense of humor.
If you like it thats great. But it was very dull and boring for me. No offense to all 14 or some 4 or 5 star reviews. But I do reccomend Only You Can Save Mankind ( Terry Pratchet). It it's a great book about a computer game with connections to aliens. I also reccomend any book by Cornelia Funke. Inkheart and The Theif Lord are my personal favorites. And 2 of my most favorite series are A Series of Unfortunate Events and Harry Potter. Reading Rocks. Get off the computer and read a book!

Lion Brand Yarn Vintage Styles for Today: More Than 50 Patterns to Knit and Crochet (Lion Brand Yarn)
ASIN: 1592532160 |
Book Description
Crocheting is the new knitting and no doubt, hot designer Katherine Lee is spurring the trend. The percentage of women under the age of 45 who know how to knit and crochet has doubled in the past six years. Retailers and the media are jumping on the bandwagon, too, by energizing many women who have not knitted or crocheted for years. It's a hip, calming pastime to our hectic busy lifestyles.
Unfortunately, the crochet patterns on the market are not necessarily in tune with today's young crocheter. That's why this book is a must-have for any enthusiast. SweaterBabe.com's Fabulous & Flirty Crochet provide this expanding market of crocheters with twenty fresh and fashionable designs from Lee, a top pattern designer and instructor.
These are not your boring old granny sweaters. These patterns are for beautiful, lacy, feminine, sweaters, camisoles, hats, belts, tanks, handbags, and scarves. Fun-to-make, and stylish to wear, these contemporary projects will appeal to crafters of every skill level.
Customer Reviews:
I love this book.......2007-06-10
This is my favourite crochet book, for quite a few reasons. I actually think of myself as a knitter first, although I learned the basics of crochet way back when I was a little girl at the same time as I learned to knit. A few months ago I decided to order a bunch of books to get into it properly, as I have found over time that some effects are easier to obtain in crochet - like some are in knitting. I wouldn't bother doing rib in crochet, and I find a lot of lace work is easier to crochet. Also, I tend to buy yarn first and think about what I want to make later, unless I totally fall for a design and go the other way. In which case some yarns seem to work better with a hook than with two needles.
Anyway. Of all the books I bought, this is the one that has remained in use. This designer has inspired me and give me the confidence to move beyond mesh scarves and crochet lace edgings. I love that she gives both symbols and fully written out pattterns. I have made intermediate stuff of hers - wow, still can't believe it! And pretty soon I will move on to advanced. Her designs are cute, stylish and cool. They're not shapeless, boring, or so out there that they're unwearable. (translation to knitting patterns/shapes - they fall inbetween the two extremes of the oldstyle long tightly ribbed at the bottom sweaters that hardly suit any female, and the extremely avantgarde stuff rowan sometimes do that seems to be all about look how clever I am).
She also includes a pretty pattern for a shawl that is worked from the point up - which is great, as a) I hate hate hate working long base chains, and b) you can use it for stash busting as you just work till you finish your yarn. The only other shawl pattern I have which works this way is stitchdiva's celebrity pattern, which I also highly recommend.
Last but not least, she includes a chart of symbols, yarn averages, gives materials required by yarn gauge and yardage, instead of just stating "10 balls of XYZ".... something I hate. Because I rarely just buy the yarn, I like to sub. So then you have to find out what yardage the yarn is, what type, blablabla.... Oh, and it's spiral bound. Nice.
I look forward to more publications from her.
user friendly.......2007-06-03
I consider myself an intermediate crocheter and this book has projects I can make. The instructions are very comprehensive and include charts as well as written instructions. level of difficulty is indicated also. The spiral binding is very useful too. I like especially the Moroccan slippers, cloche hat, stole, cardigan and shawl. I ordered this book sight unseen and was very pleasantly surprised with it.
Flattering fit is what this book is all about.......2007-01-24
I am top heavy and cannot wear bulky knits, whether crocheted or knitted in technique.
I love these. They fit well and look good on. It's obvious the designer knows what she's doing in the fit and patterning area. I look like a woman and can show my curves---and I do not look like a yeti!
As with any book of patterns, there were some I definitely would not make for myself, but that might work for someone else I know.
I thought the color combos chosen were good and there were a wide variety of yarns used.
Since these are not too intricate, most will be faster to make than if I made something comparable by knitting it.
I loved the spiral binding; I can carry this with me and use closed or spread flat while working.
The price is excellent for the quality and number/variety of patterns.
excellent ideas in here.......2007-01-22
This is the first crocheting book I have purchased. I learned how to crochet
when I was young and hadn't done it in decades. I wanted a pattern book of
varied items that was not granny-square-based and had things that you would
actually want to wear once you were done with them.
I read a lot of reviews of many other crocheting books and every technical
complaint that I have seen others remark on as a defect in other books has
been addressed in this book. Yarns are described so that easy
substitutions are possible. A chart with symbols is provided for each
stitch pattern, as well as clear written instructions, and the garments
are photographed so that you know what your finished project will look
like. A schematic of each finished piece is given, with dimensions. All
the patterns seem to be very well-tested and the instructions are very
detailed and clear. I was able to make the macrame belt, which is rated
as "advanced", as my first project from this book, with no problem at all.
A plus I hadn't anticipated was that I was able to ask the author a
question about my current project via her website about something I was
uncertain about. She replied kindly and promptly with a clear explanation.
I was very pleased with this book. There are a few things that I,
personally, would not have opportunity to wear (shawls), or that I have
enough of (scarves), and wouldn't want to make, but the stitch patterns in
each project are interesting and I could see using them in other projects.
I really like this book!
worth it!.......2007-01-16
i am very confused by the negative reviews of this book. the patterns are attractive and very well designed. (i'm 3/4 through the shawl collared wrap cardigan, and it looks fabulous. the complicated shaping is so worth the final product!)
people who think the patterns look cheap, need to use their imagination. some of the styling of the models and pictures looks silly/cheap, but the garments themselves can be fabulous in different yarns or other colors.
i disliked the slim-fitting cardigan (looked totally granny in white) until i saw it in a vivid tangerine orange on a crocheter's blog. it looked fun and funky!
this is a book for crocheters who like versatile well designed patterns and prefer to put their own twist on the project--not duplicate it exactly down to the color and button style.

Book Description
The Beatles as Musicians: The Quarry Men through Rubber Soul is a comprehensive, chronologically-ordered study of every aspect of the group's musical life--composition, performance, recording and reception histories--from its beginnings in 1956 through 1965. Richly authoritative interpretations from every available reliable musical document are interwoven through a documentary study of many thousands of audio, video, print, and multimedia sources. The text will enable general readers and musicians as well as educated music theorists to learn new levels of beauty in the music of the Beatles.
Customer Reviews:
Serious scholarship.......2007-03-13
Walter Everett subjects the music of The Beatles to the kind of theoretical examination usually reserved for classical music. This book, along with its companion volume, is serious-minded, intellectually rigorous, extremely well-conceived and yet, for the informed reader, not at all tedious. I know of no other instance where popular music has been subjected to this kind of analysis with such compelling results.
These volumes seem to implicitly ask whether The Beatles' music is actually good enough to withstand the rigor of intensive analytical scrutiny. As Professor Everett ably demonstrates, it truly is. His dissection of the famous medley on side two of "Abbey Road" (in the companion volume) is eye-poppingly brilliant. In all, both volumes are superb treatises, books that set a new and very high standard for scholarship in popular music. They are also a welcome addition to literature on the band that is still the standard by which all others are measured.
A Fine Review Of The Beatles' Early Music.......2005-07-14
As I indiciated in my review of Everett's companion book, which traces the music of the Beatles from "Revolver" through "The Anthology," these books are the definitive works about the music of the Beatles. There are so many books about the Beatles' cultural iconic significance, their sociological and gender influence and a whole host of other irrelevant topics. What matters most is that the Beatles were timeless musicians who defined the music of the 20th century. Everett reviews their music as he would any great composer. If his perspective is too technical and professorial, you may want to consider Riley's "Tell Me Why," which is still my favorite book about the Beatles' music. It provides succinct and probing insights into their music. Everett's book is nevertheless excellent, and I highly recommend it.
Dense, but wonderful........2002-12-10
Yes, this book is very dense and technical, I am not a musician and was a bit lost at times, however, the author structures the book in such a way that you can skim or skip what is over your head (a lot for me) and still get something out of this book.
For me, one of the most important and rare things about this book is the way the author does not fall into the John vs. Paul biases like so many others who have written on this topic. He gives both men the written ananlysis and technical break down of their work they deserve and does not short change Paul in favor of John. This is appreciated as I believe it gives the best description of how the songwriting evolved through the talents of both men.
He also gives the same critical analysis of George Harrison's songs, this is rare indeed.
For these reasons I highly recommend the book for serious Beatle fans.
I am already burning through the second book.
Excellent Beatle book but..........2002-09-23
First, let me make it clear that I really like this book (and its companion volume.) It's pretty difficult to write anything about the Beatles anymore that hasn't been written about ad nauseum already, but both of these books contain a great deal of fresh and intelligent information and insight on the Beatles's music. That said, I have a feeling that a lot of folks looking for new Beatles literature just aren't going to particularly enjoy The Beatles As Musicians. I'm a musician, but at times as I was reading this material I felt as though I might as well have been reading Latin simply because Mr. Everett is often very technical and rather esoteric in his discussions. In some ways (and Mr. Everett admittedly touches on this issue) these books seem somehow to fly in the face of what makes rock music so great in the first place...emotion, borderline chaos, an underlying sense of danger and rebellion, limited musicianship that somehow leads to innovation, chance, improvisation, etc etc. Still, as I noted, I enjoyed these books a great deal even when I didn't have the slightest idea what the author was writing about. But if you're not a musician or you are one who is largely self-taught and as technically stupid as I am, I wonder how much you'll like The Beatles As Musicians. Regardless, in appreciation of the freshness and intelligence of his work, I have to give Mr. Everett's books both five stars.
Worth Every Penny.......2002-06-26
I like the way this author compliments his readers' intelligence by writing about musical theory with clear detail. He describes how the Beatles achieved some of the sounds they did and gives good, in-depth analyses of many of their songs.
This book is truly a must-have for inveterate Beatles fans; musicians and lay people as well will certainly come away enriched after having read this. I can't recommend this one highly enough.

I LOVE IT !!!.......2007-07-22
I almost didn't purchase this book because I have several others on fabric books. Boy, would I have missed out! This books not only has beautiful photography but the examples are unique and the instructions flawless. One of my favorite sections is CHAPTER FOUR: THE GALLERY which shows so many examples of fabric books created by other artists for inspiration. In fact, I was so inspired that I couldn't wait to make a book for a dear friend's birthday using a combination of several different designs. This is not one of those books that you read and then put away. It stays on my studio table and I am already starting my next book. My fabric art library is pretty extensive but this book is by far the best when it comes to creating and embellishing fabric journals and books. I love it!
Create Your Own BEAUTIFUL journals.......2007-04-06
When I ordered this book, I thought it would be one of those books that had a beautiful cover but no real substance. This book is amazing, and I've already learned a lot in the short time I've owned it.
My gold standard for purchasing craft books!.......2006-10-07
This is an exceptionally well written and designed book. I'm impressed with the detailed instructions and accompanying illustrations, the photographs, and the layout. The author even anticipates questions that could come up for the reader/crafter during fabric book construction. I really appreciate this helpful style of writing. The fantastic photographs make it possible to see exactly what is being described. Even the order in which the chapters and sections are presented is well thought out.
This is destined to be one of my most treasured AND used books! In fact, I was inspired to get started as soon as I opened the book for the first time and saw the writer's/artist's work!
My absolute favourite guide to cloth journals.......2006-07-24
Pam Sussman's book covers the most basic design details - for example, page sizing - in a way that makes them interesting and inspirational. She goes on to more complicated, but necessary, techniques such as various edgings and bindings, with a natural, easy to follow progression of ideas and skills.
The book is, as one would expect, lavishly and beautifully illustrated with Sussman's work, but, unlike some other craft books, the illustrations are matched perfectly with the text and the photography displays techniques to perfection.
I have an embarrassingly large number of craft books, and this certainly numbers among the best.
So many ideas, so little time.......2006-04-09
I read this book cover-to-cover and was so enthralled by the illustrations and color photos of finished products that I had to start over again and try to focus on one project at a time. The How-Tos are presented in enough detail to help beginners through a myriad of strange and wonderful terms and tricks.

Private investigator Kinsey Millhone has served Sue Grafton well through 16 letters of the alphabet in a perennially popular series that occasionally breaks new ground but more often traverses familiar territory, as is the case here. Two old, ailing cops--one retired, the other disabled--try to breathe some life into an 18-year-old mystery that haunts them both for different reasons. They enlist Kinsey's help in identifying the victim, a young woman who was murdered and left for dead in the old quarry of the title. Neither they nor Kinsey expect that reopening an old case will incite the killer to strike again--not once, but twice. And while the real case of the still-unidentified victim that inspired this fictionalized scenario continues to languish in the cold case file in the Santa Barbara sheriff's office, Grafton's solution is as plausible as any. While the unlikely trio of Millhone and her cranky geezer sidekicks offers a few chuckles, the inner reaches of Kinsey's soul remain largely inaccessible to her as well as to the reader, which will probably not bother most of Kinsey's or Grafton's many admirers. --Jane Adams
Book Description
She was a "Jane Doe," an unidentified white female whose decomposed body was discovered near a quarry off California's Highway 1. The case fell to the Santa Teresa County Sheriff's Department, but the detectives had little to go on. The woman was young, her hands were bound with a length of wire, there were multiple stab wounds, and her throat had been slashed. After months of investigation, the murder remained unsolved.
That was eighteen years ago. Now the two men who found the body, both nearing the end of long careers in law enforcement, want one last shot at the case. Old and ill, they need someone to help with their legwork and they turn to Kinsey Millhone. They will, they tell her, find closure if they can just identify the victim. Kinsey is intrigued and agrees to the job.
But revisiting the past can be a dangerous business, and what begins with the pursuit of Jane Doe's real identity ends in a high-risk hunt for her killer.
Q is for Quarry is based on an unsolved homicide that occurred in 1969, and Grafton's interest in the case has generated renewed police efforts. During the past year, the body was exhumed and a nationally known forensic artist did the facial reconstruction that appears in the closing pages of Q is for Quarry. Both Grafton and the dedicated members of the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department are hoping the photograph will trigger memories that may lead to a positive identification.
On the day Jane Doe was reburied, many officers were at the gravesite. "It's eerie," Grafton writes, "to think about the power this woman still has. Here we are, thirty-three years later, and she still wants to go home."

Stone Deep.......2007-07-17
We've cheered for Kinsey Millhone from the beginning. "Q is for Quarry" pulls Kinsey out of a drab, newly acquired office and out into the field of pure police work. She is recruited by Stacy Oliphant, a retired cancer victim and Con Dolan, who is on medical leave to help them with one of the original cold case files. This trip Kinsey does leave the little black dress at home and gets caught having to attend a funeral.
Sue Grafton takes the reader on an extensive tour of the California desert country with slight clues that later take big steps from her 3x5 index file notes. Ms. Grafton has a fantastic grasp of description of the minute details which make her writing style both unique and compelling.
Thanks for another great read from a loyal fan.
Nash Black, author of "Qualifying Laps" and "Sins of the Fathers."
Q is for Quarry.......2007-06-28
This novel even though it is fiction is written in and around Santa Barbara County and that is home. It is great to figure out the new names for old places.
A Long Time Kinsey Fan.......2006-08-27
I really like the storyline of this book. I am interested in cold cases and liked the fact that this book was loosely based on a real unsolved California cold case. The book still drug for me in places like I feel all her books do but I am still glad I read it. I liked the addition of Detectives Oliphant and Dolan and the interaction between them and Kinsey. Overall a good read.
Grafton keeps us on the edge of our seats...and slowly falling........2006-07-13
PI Kinsey Millhone is at it again, this time trying to solve the eighteen-year-old murder of a previous `cold case'--an unidentified female victim.
Teamed ironically with two elderly cops, the ones who had originally found the woman's body, Kinsey sets out to discover both the identity of the victim and her killer who dumped the body in an old quarry.
Sue Grafton's 17th suspense novel in the `alphabet series' is filled with unexpected twists and turns, not to mention infused with Grafton's wry sense of humor. I loved the quirky relationship between the two old cops, Dolan and Oliphant! Amidst a story of tragic death and horrific murder, they were a great addition and added definite comic relief.
I would have like to see Kinsey's past delved into a bit more, but Grafton is the Queen of `dangling the carrot'. I'll be sure to read the next one (although I'm a bit behind in my reading as I'm busy writing my own novels). It's going to be a sad day when Sue Grafton finally gets to the letter `Z'.

MY FIRST SUE GRAFTON BOOK!! .......2006-06-29
THIS WAS THE FIRST SUE GRAFTON BOOK I HAVE EVER READ AND I MUST SAY I ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH. I LIKE THE WAY SHE KEPT IT LIGHT BUT IT HAD A GREAT STORY WITH THE COLD MURDER CASE, WHICH YOU FIND OUT IN THE END IS ACTUALLY BASED ON A REAL COLD MURDER CASE.
I ENJOYED THE CHARACTERS AND WILL DEFINATELY READ ANOTHER ONE OF HER BOOKS.

Cheese Making.......2007-09-27
This is an interesting book. It has many recipes and some are more helpful than others. All-in-all there is a lot of information and it is very useful. Having taken courses from several cheesemakers, it is nice to get another perspective. However I would note that some information might be hard to follow for someone unfamiliar with the process.
Great Book for Cheese Making.......2007-05-14
This book has many great recipes for delicious cheeses you can make yourself. I found the instructions to be quite clear however it is better suited for someone who already has at least some experience with making cheese. This is a great addition to anyone's cheese making library and I highly recommend it.
Good for Intermediate Home Cheese Makers.......2007-05-02
I like this book because it has several recipes that are NOT included in Carroll's book (the bible of home cheese making), and lots of really nice pictures, both hand drawn and photographs. That said, I would go with Carroll's book if you're just starting out, as it has more detailed step by step information on the process of making cheese. But once you've mastered those basics, this is a great book for expanding your recipe collection.

I placed a pre-publication order for this book and was thrilled when it arrived today. What a big book--300 pages! Then I looked inside and discovered that it was all familiar. If you own Polymer Clay Surface Design Recipes, by Ellen Marshall; Polymer Clay: Exploring New Techniques and New Materials, by Georgia Sargeant and Celie Fago; and Creating Fantasy Polymer Clay Characters, by Dinko Tilov, you already own this book.
