If there ever was a pair of docs who can make the small intestine seem truly intriguing, here they are. Dr. Mehmet Oz is an alternative-medicine maverick and a cardiologist known to implement acupuncture during open-heart surgery. Dr. Michael Roizen developed the RealAge concept of calculating one's biological, as opposed to chronological, age. Here they've whipped up a witty guide to the workings of the entire body, appropriate not just for those who can't tell their pancreas from their pituitary. Even Cheers' Cliff Claven types who think they know it all will likely be humbled by the 50-question "body-quotient" quiz that starts off the book.
With much sassy humor (they describe the adrenals as similar in shape to Mr. Potato Head's hat), they give a guided tour of the body's anatomy and major systems (hormonal, nervous, digestive, sensory, etc.) including plenty of fascinating trivia along the way. How often should you get your thyroid level checked? How much gas does the average person produce in a day? And, most important, how many times a year do most people have sex?? Drs. Oz and Roizen know. They also reveal plenty of bizarre (and potentially life-saving) facts such as this: If your earlobe has a prominent vertical wrinkle, it's likely that your arteries are aging faster than they ought to be. If only 8th-grade health class had been this fun.
The docs' main goal in presenting all this info is twofold: first, it's your body, so shouldn't you finally learn how it works? And, second, they want to help teach ways of preserving the body's health and youthfulness. To that end, they've included an "Owner's Manual Diet," a 10-day menu plan designed not for weight loss, but to make you feel "years younger." Its simple recipes are each meant to benefit a certain body system, such as Tomato Bruschetta, packed with the antioxidant lycopene, which has been proven to boost immunity. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
Between your full-length mirror and high-school biology class, you probably think you know a lot about the human body. While it's true that we live in an age when we're as obsessed with our bodies as we are with celebrity hairstyles, the reality is that most of us know very little about what chugs, churns, and thumps throughout this miraculous, scientific, and artistic system of anatomy. Yes, you've owned your skin-covered shell for decades, but you probably know more about your cell-phone plan than you do about your own body. When it comes to your longevity and quality of life, understanding your internal systems gives you the power, authority, and ability to live a healthier, younger, and better life.
You: The Owner's Manual challenges your preconceived notions about how the human body works and ages, then takes you on a tour through all of the highways, back roads, and landmarks inside of you. After taking a quiz that tests your body of knowledge, you'll learn about all of your blood-pumping, food-digesting, and keys-remembering systems and organs.
Just as important, you'll get the facts and advice you need to keep your body running long and strong. You'll find out how diseases start and how they affect your body -- as well as advice on how to prevent and beat conditions that threaten your quality of life. Complete with exercise tips, nutritional guidelines, simple lifestyle changes, and alternative approaches, You: The Owner's Manual gives you an easy, comprehensive, and life-changing how-to plan for fending off the gremlins of aging. To top it off, you'll also get the great-tasting and calorie-saving Owner's Manual Diet -- a thirty-recipe eating plan that's designed with only one goal in mind: to help you live a younger life.
Welcome to your body. Why don't you come on in and take a look around?

You: The Owner's Manual.......2007-10-06
This book is very informative. It takes the human body and breaks it down so anyone can understand it. I have learned a great deal about my body and the abuse I do to it. Would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Oh, and I love the humor too!
Heath for Dummies.......2007-10-06
Health for dummies. Fun and quick reading. But, before you buy the book. Look through the 50 question quiz. If you are interested in the questions and were not able to answer them, then go ahead and buy.
Look at the menus at the back of the book. If you are not interested in changing your diet, you might look elsewhere.
Look at Page 127-139 for an excercise plan: Very basic
Page 173 simplistic smoking cessation plan
Interesting points
1) Take half an aspirin with warm water for the rest of your life.
2) Ideal blood pressure: 115/76
2a) Systolic Pressure exerted when the heart contracts
2b) Diastolic: Pressure in arteries when the heart is at rest
3) HDL should be at least greater than 40
4) Should be maximum heart rate: Exercise hard 3 mintues. Heart rate should be 80-90% of 220 - age.
5) Recovery time after 2 minutes:Heartbeat should be 80% or drop by 66 or more beats
6) Definition of clinical depression is sadness for more than 2 weeks
7) Enamel and bone are the first and second hardest thing in your body
8) 650 muscles in the body

10) 26 feet of tubing
11) Most active muscles are in your eyes. 2 million working parts
12) caruncle: reddish pink fleshy substance on the inside corner of your eye. remnant of the reptilian eye.
Tried to be a little too funny.......2007-10-01
I liked this book, but ended up skipping over a lot of the parts that were supposed to be funny. I would have liked the pictures to be labeled correctly, not with funny made up names for body parts.
You: The Owner's Manual.......2007-09-29
Great stuff, easy read. Very informative. I read it and then my Mom read it.
Very "YOUseful".......2007-09-28
In short, just a very informative book that is successful in achieving several goals. For one, it educates the reader in the inner workings of the human body. It does this quite entertainingly through trivia, facts, and interesting pictures (for instance the authors use a lot of elves). Additionally, the book also gives you many helpful tips on self-care and how to keep your body running smoother. While there is a lot information, I really would like to have seen a reference section at the end of the book. All in all though, it's a pretty informative and amusing read that should enhance the well-being of many. Also recommend Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff for readers who might need more specific info on shoulder pain and rotator cuff self-care.

RWS.......2007-09-03
I have found this book to be well organized and easy to read for such alot of information.
mistakes and typos galore.......2007-07-21
it's a shame there isn't a better PE book out there. my school required that i get the 9th edition, promising that all the errors of the 8th edition were corrected in the 9th.
let me just start by saying the GLOSSARY in the back of the BOOK hasn't been updated from the last edition. you need to contact the publisher just to get a copy of the correct page numbers.
i'll leave you with this: i suggest a supplement: "Degowins" PE. it's organized 1000-times better and doesn't weigh a ton. truth about bates' is, they try to make things seem SO simple, but in medicine there is rarely only ONE answer.
because it's the only one out there of its kind (it spells out step-by-step procedures to the PE) it's an essential, but it's NOT the bible to PE; get yourself an adjunct text.
DeGowin's Diagnostic Examination
Not worth the money for a new edition.......2007-07-04
I have the 1974 version of this book, which obviously is too old for today's standards, but has all the basics for PE and history taking. This edition, while it has some really nice photos in comparison to the '74 version's hand-sketched drawings, still has some of the original hand-sketched drawings in it! The index does not match up with the text, so I'm wondering if the index is from a previous edition? I found this very frustrating when doing my homework and nearly impossible to find information for my take home exam for my assessment class.
I wouldn't spend the money. If I had known, I would have returned the book when it was new. My teacher suggested Health Assessment & Physical Examination by Mary Ellen Zator Estes, so I'm looking into buying that one for reference.
Not as thorough as expected..........2007-06-15
Well the book is beautiful and extremely well put together based on logical organization but I have put it to the test utilizing it in my hospital rotations as a step by step guide on what I am looking for and what to write down doing the physical examination and I keep on getting battered by the superior physicians. They always state that something is missing and what they say is missing makes perfect logical sense. It is not necessarily that they are attempting to make me look bad. The book is lacking some terminology and my best assessment is that it is not sufficiently thorough. I am on Amazon again to look for another book.
Much used book for examination.......2007-03-01
I'm in acupuncture school and when we do apply this book, it's really beneficial. Though I didn't listen whether or not it had heart beat sound clips, I think that would very useful. Laysout things pretty well...

This comprehensive book explains in lucid, assured terms how to practice the fertility awareness method (FAM), a natural, scientifically proven but little-known form of birth control (which is not to be confused with the woefully ineffective "rhythm" method). Author Toni Weschler has been teaching fertility awareness for almost 20 years, and it's only just now gaining in popularity. As the book explains, by using simple fertility signs including peaks in morning body temperature and changes in cervical position and cervical mucus, it's possible to determine when ovulation is taking place. Fertility awareness is therefore useful for not only couples who are trying to conceive, but for those who are aiming to avoid pregnancy without the use of chemical contraceptives. It will be of special interest to those women who have suffered from infertility; many FAM practitioners have told the author that by filling in the detailed charts in the book, they've realized that they were chronically miscarrying, even when their doctors told them they weren't conceiving at all. As the book explains, by charting body temperature, it's simple to tell when pregnancy has occurred--and when there's danger of miscarriage. Taking Charge of Your Fertility also explains how to choose the sex of your baby by timing intercourse according to certain fertility signs. It also features thorough, easy-to-understand explanations of hormones, the menstrual cycle, and menopause, along with fertility tests and treatments and their long- and short-term side effects, plus a topnotch resource section. Recommended for any woman who wants to better understand her body. --Erica Jorgensen

Info for Every Woman.......2007-10-06
Whether you are trying to get pregnant or trying to avoid it, this is information that every woman should know about her body.
Necessary Book for all Women.......2007-10-06
This book was recommended to me by my doctor. It reads easily and is very interesting, even funny at times. The advice inside is easy to follow, and the results are empowering. I believe it's an essential for all women, so they know their own bodies better than anybody else does.
TCOYF is Awesome.......2007-10-05
The book is amazing... It's everything your health teacher and your mother never taught you! And Amazon got it to me quickly.
Thanks to this book I have my baby!.......2007-10-05
This book is wonderful - it's very simple and easy to follow with lots of example to illustrate more complicated concepts.
I have so called "lazy ovaries" and only menstruate around 4-5 times a year. With a better understanding of how my body works and how to know the best time to conceive, we bingo'd on our first try to have a baby. Enough said!
A little work brings big rewards.......2007-10-04
This is a well written book that makes understanding your hormones and fertility logical and reasonable. I bought this book on a recomendation from my Sister In-Law and I am so glad I did. Side effects of birth control pills can be hard on a woman's body both physically and mentally. This book provides lots of information for understanding the ins and outs of fertility. I have used it succesfully in both avoiding and achieving pregnancy.

Book Description
Thoughts and Feelings adapts the powerful and widely adaptable techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) into a set of tools readers can use, not to solve a particular problem, but to overcome any of the emotional and behavioral changes that life throws their way. CBT recognizes that most negative feelings arise from confused, irrational thoughts. By learning to identify and change these thoughts and by replacing destructive and limiting behaviors with new, more constructive ones, readers can start steering their lives in the direction they want to go.
Changes to this new edition include revisions and updates to the core CBT chapters as well as a new chapter on how to use mindfulness to bring focus and intention to the process of change.
Customer Reviews:
Some good chapters, but not that fantastic.......2007-05-17
I was expecting a little more with this book and so a little disappointed in the end. It has some good chapters like "worry" and suggests some helpful strategies but I was somehow expecting more. It is probably more designed for the naive reader rather than a psychological resource material. However, because it presents information in a very simplistic way it can have some use if you want your patients to read up on somethings.

Book Description
At the young age of thirty-three, Nancy Davis was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The finality of the neurologist's prognosis was devastating: within a year she would be confined to her bed and, at best, able to push the buttons on her television's remote control. Rather than accept a hopeless prognosis, Nancy learned about her illness and, in turn, created a new life for herself with a new health regimen and an expanded range of therapeutic options. In Lean on Me, Nancy shares her deeply personal story and provides a step-by-step guide for taking charge of your own health care in the face of life-threatening disease. Each step offers readers the strategies and strength to carry on when they are feeling overwhelmed and the concrete tools for actively seeking and receiving the best treatment. In the face of a medical crisis, Lean on Me shows how to navigate the health care waters, find hope, take positive action, and celebrate progress -- and supplies authoritative information that can save your life or the life of a loved one.

Customer Reviews:
BPD.......2007-10-06
As a parent of a BPD this is absolutely helpful, and was recommended by our Dr. However it can be depressing as this disorder can wreck havok on your life.
How to Live With a Borderline Without Going Crazy.......2007-10-06
As a Clinical Psychologist who works with BPD (and lived with one) I don't know of another book that is more helpful to the spouse or family of someone with Borderline Personality Disorder. It provides both reassurance (that they are not "making it all up") and helpful guidance for how to best handle their Borderline loved one, most notably the importance of "mirroring" unacceptable behavior and limit setting, while reminding them of the BPD's constant never-ending need for their own reassurance. For torn between the deepest fears of abandonment and of being controlled, BPD's are perpetual tornadoes of emotion without the ability to regulate it. So while this book isn't as helpful as others regarding the psychotherapy BPD's need (cf. psychodynamic or dialetical behavior therapy), it is the best one available to help families deal with their loved one's inability to handle strong negative emotion and their marked swings between extreme passion and semi-psychotic distortions, the most notable being the accusations that they are "controlling" the BPD loved one. The only thing I would have added would be an index, though I use the book so much I ended up making my own.
Eggshells is a great book plus another recommendation.......2007-10-01
Eggshells is a great book. It is full of helpful advice when you have a friend that suffers from BPD. It helps a layman understand the disorder and ways to protect yourself from the emotional demands of someone with BPD. It helped me a great deal understand not only the condition of BPD but also how caring for someone with BPD effected me in regards to my emotional health. Eggshells further gives assistance in recognizing certain red flags when a person with BPD is breaking down your boundaries and emotionally sucking you into their world. The book is very sympathetic to the reader and gives a very understanding view to the person that suffers from BPD. It is a one of the foundation books referred by therapist to assist people with weak boundaries or someone trying to deal with a friend that suffers from BPD. I wholeheartedly recommend the book and suggest keeping it close by as you will refer to it often.
Another book about BPD I would strongly recommend is One Way Ticket To Kansas: Caring About Someone With Borderline Personality Disorder And Finding A Healthy You. This book presents a more personal view as it addresses the emotional impact of BPD on the partner (spouse, romantic relationship, significant other). It includes the diagnosis criteria in easy to understand terms, ways to rebuild your self esteem, and gives a very touching personal story of the author that describes the impact and disorder progression of having a wife diagnosed with BPD.
In a book market with very few helpful books to explain BPD and its impact in laymans terms, these two books stand above the rest. I strongly recommend picking up copies of Stop Walking on Eggshells and One Way Ticket and keeping them close. You will find youself referring to them often for validation and advice. You may also want to look into some online support groups for people effected by having a loved one diagnosed or suspected to have BPD. Godspeed, keep you head up, and know that you will be strong enough to make the right decisions for yourself.
Stop Walking on Eggshells.......2007-09-15
The book describes how to recognize borderline personality disorder in a person for whom you care. It also gives advice in plain language on how to deal with this person.
The book that changed my life.......2007-08-24
This book was recommended to me by a therapist i was seeing for marital difficulties. When i read it, it gave me answers for 18 years of chaos in my marriage. It also gives me compassion for my husband, and resources for support groups for me. I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone feeling crazy in an interpersonal relationship, not able to understand the other person's behavior. It also helps you understand what borderline personality disorder is, since it's very complicated and each person has unique traits and different levels of each trait. What a relief to finally have some hope and some resources to help with the chaos.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent and handy guide !.......2005-10-31
The Batess' pocket guide is a wonderful tool for clinicians.
It is simple, thorough, and clear with good illustrations. Keep it within your reach !!
EASY-TO-COMPREHEND POCKET GUIDE.......2003-03-30
This "Bates' Pocket Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking" is an easy-to-comprehend manual which was structured in a way that should meet the needs of both doctors and nurses. The information contained in this book are simple and straightforward; and just like the complete edition, they included paediatric coverage. The chapters of this book examined both morphological and physiological abnormalities and/or irregularities. They included several illustrative charts and tables, which facilitate comparative analyses of clinical data.
If appropriately adhered to, the supervisory procedures outlined in this book would assist medics in making correct evaluation of each case they encounter. Also worth pointing out, is the way the book paid attention to drug administration.
In all, this is a good medical adviser, which inexperienced medics should have in their lab-coat pockets.
What a find!.......2000-07-30
This book is a very thorough review of the physical diagnostic exam. It provides a thorough review of systems that is brief and to the point. While not a substitute for the text, it is quick and easy to use. To top it all off, it REALLY is a perfect sized book for the pocket.
Bates Pocket guide to physical exams and history taking.......2000-06-04
This is a very informative reference. I am a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy and I see a wide variety of patients on a daily basis. This guide helps me out in performing the correct exams or tests. It also helps the doctor out when he reads my write up. This allows less time for the patient in medical, less time for the doctor, so he doesn't have to see the patient. It also helps me out when a patient is presented to medical with a complaint that I have not heard of or seen yet. I have learned so much more with this book. Thank You and if you are in the medical field and see patients like I do, I recommend this book.
Book Description
Based on the breakthrough understanding that virtually all headaches are forms of migraine--because migraine is not a specific type of headache, but the built-in mechanism that causes headaches of all kinds, along with neck stiffness, sinus congestion, dizziness, and other problems--Dr. Buchholz's Heal Your Headache puts headache sufferers back in control of their lives with a simple, transforming program:
Step 1: Avoid the "Quick Fix." Too often painkillers only make matters worse because of the crippling complication known as rebound.
Step 2: Reduce Your Triggers. The crux of the program: a migraine diet that eliminates the foods that push headache sufferers over the top.
Step 3: Raise Your Threshold. When diet and other lifestyle changes aren't enough, preventive medication can help stay the course.
That's it: in three steps turn your headache problems around.

Best Migraine help I ever found.......2007-09-28
This book about migraine relief has changed my life. I was getting 3 or more migraines a week. After 3 months of doing the 1-2-3 program, I am down to at most 1 migraine a month if I do not watch what trigger foods I consume or my stress levels.
A great book for learning about all kinds of headaches, not just migraines too.
Life saver for me.
Best Doctor on the Subject!.......2007-09-18
This book is really all it's hyped up to be! It makes more sense than any other headache help book out there and best of all the Dr.'s plan works! It honestly worked for me and I have not even completely cut out regular coffe yet. I'm down to one cup a day and soon that will be zero. I've been following most of the book's advice and have not suffered a migraine over the past 2 weeks since I finished reading it. I normally suffer from "classic migraines" at least 3 times a month, especially when Aunt Flo visits. I'm happy to report she's now gone and I did NOT HAVE ANY migraines! I am a true believer in the 1*2*3 Program! Buy the book and improve your health!!!
Great book.......2007-09-06
I bought the book Heal Your Headache: The 1-2-3 Program because my mom told me about it. It is very informative and has really helped me with my migraine headaches. I found, through reading the book, that it is bananas that trigger mine. Bananas were actually causing the worst headaches of my life. I have also noticed that cheese triggers a bad headache for me but not a migraine. I never knew that allergy meds can cause headaches until I read the book. I recommend this book to anybody that suffers with headaches. It will inform you on what causes headaches and the best part is it teaches you what to do to prevent headaches. Even migraines. I will say that I have not had a migraine headache since I bought the book. I thank David Buchholz for writing his book. I am sure he has helped lots of people other than myself. He is a gift from above.
He Solved my Migraine Problem.......2007-08-31
David Buchholz book changed my life!! After weekly (2 to 3 times a week) headaches for many years, he has given me the tools to get rid of my Excedrin and the many triptans that I took every week. When one tablet didn't work, I went from 2 to 3 and then 4 was not able to get rid of the headache. I just knew that there had to be a better way. His book was recommended to me and the rest is history. I stopped cold turkey, his recommendation, and I have tried to stick to his diet. Aside from some bearable headaches, I am doing fine. I have been doing this for less than a week, but I will never go back to abusing those terrible drugs again. I have tried to tell my former neurologists (the best of Boston) and they have not returned my calls. I guess they are not interestsed in hearing about an approach that works without drugs.
So true...........2007-08-30
The more I read this book, the more angry I was at my neurologist for being so prescription happy. I am thinking of taking a copy of this book to him on my next appoinment along with all my unused quick fixes. I admit I cannot follow any diet to the letter, or even come close. But, since I eliminated the presciption and OTC quick fixes, red wine, chocolate, and the biggie CAFFEINE, my headaches have been DRASTICALLY reduced to the point where every now and then I need an ibuprofen. This makes life so much more enjoyable.

great for beginning students.......2007-09-24
this is great for beginning nursing students.
It tells you exactly what kind of questions will be in the nursing school exams. It is not as simple as you had in pre-reqs.
This book got me thru my first semester, and 1/2 of the people in my class failed. I thank this book for helping me pass!
If you want A's Read this book.......2007-06-23
I can not say enough good things about this book. I bought it just after starting nursing school and would read sections of it as I had the time. It helped me really have an edge over the nursing exams from the on set. While other fellow students were struggling with how to "read" nursing test questions (which can be very tricky), I understood exactly what the question were asking, and the techniques to answering them. Although I studied very hard in school, I credit part of my straight A's to this book.
Test taking techniques for nursing students.......2007-05-14
As a nursing instructor I found this book to be very informative & comprehensive.Good for implementing critical thinking exercises. I am very satisfied with my purchase of this book, it is just what I have been looking for as a supplement to our current textbooks.
Not too bad.......2007-01-03
This is a required book for my nursing school & although we didn't use it much, I was glad I bought it. There are many good tips on taking tests & critical thinking. We also used it when we started learning about nursing diagnosis. It has a whole chaper dedicated to that & it was good to read about it from the test taking direction.
Great resource.......2006-07-04
This book is mainly for 1st semester nursing, although is can be used as a refresher throughout nursing. There are topics on reducing anxiety, developing confidence in your test-taking abilities, time management, how to study more effectively, and problem solving. It contains over 700 mulitple choice questions and 3 practice tests-- all with rationales for correct and incorrect answers. I didn't start using this book as a sort of pre-test study guide until late in my 1st semester; but once I started using it, I was surprised at what I did know, and the ones I didn't made sense after reading the rationales. The sections go along with the different the different topics taught in 1st semester, (ex.- Hygiene, Elimination Needs, Administration of Medications, etc...) If used as a pre-test study guide along with other material, this book can be a great asset for test taking success, and help to build confidence in the knowledge learned.

Book Description
In one of the most dazzling books of his celebrated career, Dean Koontz delivers a masterwork of page-turning suspense that surpasses even his own inimitable reputation as a chronicler of our worst fears—and best dreams. In The Taking he tells the story of a community cut off from a world under siege, and the terrifying battle for survival waged by a young couple and their neighbors as familiar streets become fog-shrouded death traps. Gripping, heartbreaking, and triumphant in the face of mankind’s darkest hour, here is a small-town slice-of-doomsday thriller that strikes to the core of each of us to ask: What would you do in the midst of
The Taking.
On the morning that will mark the end of the world they have known, Molly and Niel Sloan awaken to the drumbeat of rain on their roof. It has haunted their sleep, invaded their dreams, and now they rise to find a luminous silvery downpour drenching their small California mountain town. A strange scent hangs faintly in the air, and the young couple cannot shake the sense of something wrong.
As hours pass and the rain continues to fall, Molly and Niel listen to disturbing news of extreme weather phenomena across the globe. Before evening, their little town loses television and radio reception. Then telephone and the Internet are gone. With the ceaseless rain now comes an obscuring fog that transforms the once-friendly village into a ghostly labyrinth. By nightfall the Sloans have gathered with some of their neighbors to deal with community damage...but also because they feel the need to band together against some unknown threat, some enemy they cannot identify or even imagine.
In the night, strange noises arise, and at a distance, in the rain and the mist, mysterious lights are seen drifting among the trees. The rain diminishes with the dawn, but a moody gray-purple twilight prevails. Soon Molly, Niel, and their small band of friends will be forced to draw on reserves of strength, courage, and humanity they never knew they had. For within the misty gloom they will encounter something that reveals in a terrifying instant what is happening to their world—something that is hunting them with ruthless efficiency. Epic in scope, searingly intimate and immediate in perspective,
The Taking is an adventure story like no other, a relentless roller-coaster read that brings apocalypse to Main Street and showcases the talents of one of our most original and mesmerizing novelists at the pinnacle of his powers.

love dean koontz but no this one.......2007-10-09
sorry to say but i was very disappointed with this book. I probably read the first couple of chapters and i was done. Little green aliens is not my style.
The Taking by Dean Koonz.......2007-10-02
I read to unwind after working a late shift working with my computer, nightly. I found it most difficult to put this book down. It is classic Koontz, keeping one glued to the page. How he manages to keep track of all the plots within plots and still tie it all together is amazing. I highly recomend this book as a superlative read.
Simple, but effective.......2007-09-06
I have always been an individual of fewer words than most, except, for when I have put words on paper. Dean Koontz has been one of my favorite authors to read - THIS is the novel that hooked me to Koontz. Koontz is simply one of the better story-tellers today. He may not be Stephen King in depth, or, Bentley Little in horror, but, Koontz is an effective story-teller, none the less. My recommendation ? Read this novel before deciding if you like it or not. Either you will, or, you won't.
The Taking.......2007-09-04
This is a pretty worthy book. I wont ruin it. All I can say is at the end he gives you something to think about. I thought it was a interesting view on something many of us wonder about. I absolutely recommend this book. It holds your attention & you don't want to put it down. It is well written. It holds up to the Koontz name.
Working with words.......2007-09-04
I must confess that this is the first novel I've ever read that I didn't have to read for school (and that was over 20 years ago). I wanted to make more of my commute time and noticed this audiobook at my local library. I'd had seen Koontz on the covers of books that other people were reading, and this looked like it would hold my attention. I was shocked and amazed by the literary style--the similes, metaphors, alliteration, and vivid, vivid detail. No wonder people hate movie version. I couldn't believe what I had missing all these years. I've read a few novels by other authors since then, but no one comes close on this aspect. I have seen some reviewers report this style as a bad thing, but I feel the opposite. I had mixed feelings about the storyline, but for me, it did not suffer from reusing common Koontz themes because I had never read him before. I'm giving this 5 stars because this book goes so far beyond the story, that it finally turned me onto fiction after all these years.
