Book Description
Before there was Robert Crumb, there was Herbert Crowley. If you don't recognize that name, you're not alone. Crowley is one of nearly 30 American cartoonists featured in this eclectic anthology, artists whose work-created between 1900 and 1969-was overshadowed by more successful contemporaries. Art Out of Time at last gives these pioneers the showcase they deserve, reprinting-in most cases for the first time since their initial publication-complete comic books and strips by such visionaries as Raymond Ewer, Howard Nostrand, Ogden Whitney, and Dick Briefer. These under-recognized artists often deviated from the thematic and graphic conventions of the comics medium-and influenced Crumb, Art Spiegelman, and others-making this superb anthology a true "counter history," the untold story of an underground that wasn't.

Fair Warning.......2007-09-05
Yes...it is a great compliation of some of the forgotten Golden Age cartoon work...like the wonderful "Explorigator"...but, and this is a Big BUT...
Those great old full-sheet Sunday Comics have been reduced to 8 x 11...can't even read the type-face with a good glass magnifier. And while the art work has some fabulous color it too is reduced to the point of....well you think about it!
The good news is the Intro, the Bibliography and the Resources are excellent for your further research.
P.S. My "mint" copy will be available on eBay shortly
Rescued from Obscurity!.......2007-07-17
This book is an eye-opener. Beautiful quality and reproductions here. Every time I look through this I discover something else. I love the works of McCay and Herriman as much as anyone...but there are real treasures here waiting to be rediscovered. Dan Nadel has done an outstanding job bringing this work to the attention of present day comics afficionados and art lovers in general. I really hope that Dan decides to do a volume 2 of this...and if you own this book, you'd know exactly what I mean.
Comic Art Supreme.......2007-03-08
I bought this book for my husband for Christmas on the recommendation of one of his friends who knows his taste. A comics afficiado from way back, he has been over the moon about the book to the extent that we have given copies to various other of his friends as well. Everyone who has received it RAVES about it ... its coverage, thoroughness, graphics, etc. So no doubt that this book is da bomb! If you're even vaguely interested in the subject area, this is definitely the book for you.
Readers involved in comic history, evolution and art simply must have .......2006-07-24
Any involved in the comics must have ART OUT OF TIME: UNKNOWN COMICS VISIONARIES, 1900-1969: it celebrates the lesser-known work of Bob Powell, Astan MacGovern, Boody Rogers and others who proved eccentric but influential comic visionaries before the rose of underground comics in the late 1960s. These artists created their own versions of western, romance, humor and horror genres and worked within the confines of popular comics of their times to provide visionary works. Some became famous, others remained obscure. ART OUT OF TIME reprints complete comic book and strip stories: many appear here for the first time since their first appearance. A thematic organization allows for quick access while surveys of pre-underground stars makes for a winning collection. Another big plus: the strips appear in full color, capturing all the nuances of the originals and losing nothing in translation. Readers involved in comic history, evolution and art simply must have ART OUT OF TIME.

Great setup to a great series...........2007-07-19
Buy it and see how it all begins. Of course, it will make you dislike the Claremont stuff even more!
Cool stuff.......2007-04-07
As a fan of the "What if?" series when I was a kid, I was very interested to see the Exiles team jumping from one alternative universe to the next. I haven't been disappointed so far: fun stories, good drawing.
X-Men + Sliders + Quatnam Leap = Freakin' Awesome.......2006-11-06
This series caught my attention when it first came out, considering I was a big fan of the Age of Apocolypse story arc and that it had Blink and Morph on the cover. Different Morph, but no matter! There a a variety of situations that this group gets into which involves missions to fix whatever problem there may be in whatever reality they may be in. Which can vary from major (Kill the Pheonix) to minor (buy a cheese danish). You'd be suprised how much can spiral out a pastry problem. The original team consists of Mimic - previously a minor character in the main reality (616), Blink - From the Age of Apocolypse reality, due to fan reaction most likely, Nocturne - Daughter of Scarlet Witch and Nightcrawler, Morph - A prominent hero and member of the Xmen and the Avengers in his reality, who will also just make you laugh with everything said, T-Bird - John Proudstar, thunderbird, who died on his first mission with the X-men in the 616 reality, but from his was captured by Apocolypse and turned into one of the Horsemen, and Magnus - the daughter of Magneto and Rogue, with gifts and curses from both of his parents, along with incredible power. If you have an at least decent knowledge of past events in the Marvel history, you would probably appreciate this title. I found it amazing when they got a mission in a reality that I only knew about from reading one issue ten or fifteen years ago. Pretty obscure! I like all the little references and cameos from the depths of the Marvel history and universe. Humurous and intense,it draws you in and you care what happens to the characters just like any other title that may be a bit more mainstream. Buy it, read it, love it. This review is meant not just for this volume, but this goes for the whole series run.
One of the Best Series to READ........2006-09-13
I have read the whole series. This is the first graphic novel in the series. It starts you off with a fun rollercoaster ride with reality saving Marvel characters. The stories through out the series are well developed and are a fun read. They remain true with their continuity and sub-plots through out the storylines. And it gets complex. Enjoy. :)
P.s. If you can remember the "What If" series that Marvel had out a very very long time ago. This series adds a 3rd degree to it, it accomlishes that same answer to a lot of those "what if's" and then gives it an ongoing reality. What If's like what would happen if the Brood survived or if the legacy virus mutated or this villain took over or if this person wasn't exposed to gamma rays . . . or whatever . . . and then it answers those questions and keeps those stories alive and mixes in all the other realities to create a whole universe of ongoing answered what if questions with their own specific and weird reality. :)
Fantastic and Original.......2006-02-06
Marvel's X-Men franchise has launched many spinoffs and various comic book lines but, in my opinion, none have been as unique as Exiles.
This trade collects the first 4 issues of Exiles (the first two story arcs) and was written by Judd Winnick who stayed to write a good portion of the next 35ish issues.
The basic premise of the series is that the team is a collection of hereos from alternate Earths (in the Marvel universe, mainstream Marvel takes place in the "616" universe) and they travel to different alternate realities with missions to complete. I was drawn to this series because of the characters, specifically Blink and Mimic. Blink earned a following from her exploits in an X-men crossover called "The Age of Apocolypse" that was written in the 90's while Mimic has been in a few X-men comics but never explored much after that.
In addition to the having a very interesting cast of characters, the writing for Exiles is what set itself apart from the other comics out there. I feel as though it is/was fresh when compared to some of the other X-titles and other comics in general. The art isn't Jim Lee or any of the other top artists but the various artists do an excellent job of creating colorful, distinct, and different worlds and characters.
A word of warning however... While the first few trade paperbacks of Exiles are very good, some of the later collections are not quite as entertaining as the writing quality falters a bit when Austen takes over.

Excellent!.......2005-07-28
My son recently became interested in Garfield, and he just loves the books. Its fun and very easy reading, so he enjoys it, while still practicing his reading skills. Its the best of both worlds! The service was great, the shipping was very quick, and the quality of the book was excellent. Thank you for putting many smiles on our faces!
Another stunning achievement for author Jim Davis!.......1999-04-03
This book left me breathless! I was stunned! A perfect blend of comedy, drama, and even science fiction! Everything was written just as it was should have been written. Genius. Simply genius. Pure genius.
Another fine literary drama by Jim Davis.......1999-04-01
The saga of Garfield, Odie, and Jon continues. This dramatic and moving yet highly disturbing portrait of late-nineties domestic suburban sexual denial forces the reader to delve into his/her own tortured sexual psyche, much like Catherine and Heathcliff but as a trio each exploring their own unrequieted desire. The tension is unbearable, and Garfield's repeated replacement of food for sexual yearning is telling of late twentieth-century sexuality. Odie's alienation as a result of Garfield's spurning for the love of his inanimate replacement for Jon, in the form of Pookie, is obviously a compelling metaphor for post-colonial AIDS isolation. Alone in the confusing mire of mixed signals that is their home, poor Garfield has no choice but to seek solace in the soft, safe, squishy bosom of Pookie, denying the pain and self-loathing so apparent in his everyday encounters. Odie, much like Hillary to Bill, pointlessly attempts again and again to win the affections of a reckless, wanton, yet powerful force who has become consumed by his meager life, ironically encouched in power. Jon's unrealized quest for gratification is symbolic of the fall of Communism and is a clever representation of the fall of the wall and the troubles of subsequent unification. Supplanted in a landscape of repression and denial, our three protagonists seek comfort in their base desires: coffee becomes the drug of choice, providing escape from the hell that is life, much like today's "raver" youth seeking comfort in "ecstasy" and "techno". Woe to he/she who proceeds beyond the cover of this prophetic tome! Another masterpiece accomplishment by Davis, sure to keep him in literary courses of the future.
About the books........1998-10-21
I like Garfield. He is the greatest cat and funniest I have ever read. He is great and funny. He is MAD PHAT. He always makes me say WORD when I get a new book.

a gem of a story on a shelf unlike any others.......2005-05-15
"Out of Time" is a beautiful story that delves into the past. Through an old photo album found in an antiques store, a woman begins a crusade to learn more about four women who lived in New York City long ago. While pursuing more information about these four women, Susan learns a lot about herself, and as a result, recognizes that her relationship is very much worthy of commitment.
I found this story to be very real and written by a woman who is a gifted writer. She conveys the story, and alludes to many things. I like stories that do that rather than beat me over the head with what is obvious. This writing shows me the story, rather than tells me. This is one of those books that I will forever keep on my shelf and pull it out and read it like the first time.
Do You Believe in Ghosts?.......2005-01-22
When I first got my hands on this book I wasn't sure if I'd like it, so I put it on my bookshelf. One day, bored with the norm, I picked it up, started reading, and couldn't put it down. Martinac does a wonderful job hiding a relationship in "transition" within a touching story about lesbians from the past. It's hard for many people to believe, but we've been around since the dawn of time.
I found it easy to get wrapped up in Susan's search for answers about "The Gang" while ghosts of Harriet and Lucy help Susan in her quest. This was not a typical lesbian romance, but I thoroughly enjoyed it all the same.
Recommended for a rainy day, accompained with a cup of hot tea and lemon cookies.
Out of Time, by Paula Martinac.......2003-04-11
The delicious feeling that women loved each other in another time is the reward of reading this book. It's a thrill, so different from most ghost stories to read a good writer whose intrepid imagination doesn't shy away from asking "What was a kiss like in the 20's?" then startling us some time later with the answer pressed sensuously against her lips.
It reads easily and inevitably, even in its most unlikely plot turns, because the narrator has been found by spirits who kept their secrets while living, but are ready, as the world finally is, for them to be exposed.
A very fun read. I recommend it.
The past comes alive.......2001-04-09
I was glad to see this book back in print, because it is delightfully written and cunningly put together. As Susan learns more about the past, she loses touch with the present. I think that has happened to everyone who has ever fallen in love with a picture or a story and wished they somehow knew how it all came out in the end. My only quibble is the unrealistic ending, but that was a small part of an otherwise inspired, unique novel.
couldn't put the book down -- what a great read!!.......1999-08-22
a friend told me about this book just this morning and the premise alone got me outside long enough to pick it up and spend the day reading. It reads so true-to-life, especially for those who have been haunted by other's pasts and sensitive enough hear them. Someone should consider making this novel a movie -- each scene is vivid and compelling -- thank you Paula Martinac

Two Times the Drama for the Price of One..........2007-02-10
TIME OUT - DETROIT SLIM are two high-end stories that keep readers glued to every word. It is a double book bargain that offers two very unique stories by writer Geavonnie Frazier. TIME OUT is the story of two players who are operating on borrowed time. Daunte and Antonio are friends who share the lifestyle of chasing women and breaking hearts. Each is headed on a destructive path if they don't give up their player ways. DETROIT SLIM is an urban fiction tale that offers alternate endings of a heist gone wrong. The reader makes the choice on which explosive conclusion to choose from.
They were both creative, quick, fun reads that got to the point in a timely fashion. I totally enjoyed the stories. With the twists and subplots of one and option of choosing your ending for the other, this book is different from the average book. In the season of Internet blogs and Myspace, this new twist to marketing fiction is an inviting option for readers who crave a good story, but are short on time.

Jaybee Corbell awoke after more than 200 years as a corpsicle -- in someone else's body, and under sentence of instant annihilation if he made a wrong move while they were training him for a one-way mission to the stars.
But Corbell picked his time and made his own move. Once he was outbound, where the Society that ruled Earth could not reach him, he headed his starship toward the galactic core, where the unimaginable energies of the Universe wrenched the fabric of time and space and promised final escape from his captors.
Then he returned to an Earth eons older than the one he'd left...a planet that had had 3,000,000 years to develop perils he had never dreamed of -- perils that became nightmares that he had to escape...somehow!

Would Make a Good Series!.......2007-06-24
This is the first of Larry Niven's novels that I have read, and it remains my personal favorite. I shall not repeat the synopsis of the storyline given by previous reviewers, though I did find the fact that this was Niven's favorite, mentioned in a previous review, of interest. Let me just say that I think that there is rich material in this novel that could have been used to write at least two more novels. For example, "WOOT" provides a relatively succint glimpse of the State. Personally, I think a another novel telling of the origins, ideology, and society of the State would have the makings of a fine "negative utopia" in the tradition of "We", "1984", and "Brave New World". Another possible undertaking would be a novel telling of the events on Earth in the three million years between Jaybee Corbell's flight to the Galactic Core and back. In any case, "World Out of Time" is a great piece of storytelling. I read it first over twenty years ago, and still reread it periodically.
A good novel and this is actually "Larry's" favorite universe........2007-05-02
World-out-of-Time grew out of a short story written by Niven for the science fiction magazine, Analog, in the mid-1970s.
This reviewer had met Larry Niven (Lawrence Van Colt) back in 1983 at a science fiction convention in Midland, Michigan. Larry was alway perplexed by the much more successful "Known Space" books. Why? Larry views "Known Space" as pure science fantasy and the "World" time line as much more possible. Indeed, at least three other books were spun out of this time line. There are "Intregal Trees" and its successor. At least two other books use the "World" timeline and science. Bluntly, "WOOT" spaceships are possible with our science.
Personally, this review is a big Niven fan and wishes he would keep on writing at the brisk pace he set for himself in the '70s to the mid-1990s period. But Larry really only produces a book year and he is slowly retiring from writing. Still, this particular book is an old friend and I like it.
The main character - Corbell - has terminal cancer in the early '70s and is frozen to keep from the grave. His DNA and RNA is combined to introduce a new personality in a criminal that has had his mind erased. It's the mind of Corbell in a new body.
The first chapters of this book keeps much in common with the original analog story of the mid-1970s. Peersa, the main computer, runs the starship under Corbell's command. Corbell says that all empires die from barbarians; the analog is given of Rome. Niven could use a little more help with history because Rome fell from lots of reasons and not just barbarians. Anyway, you've got to wonder about Peersa at that point because he (it) has no memory or data tapes of Earth's history.
Anyway, Peersa keeps the Starship from Earth until long after the state's fall: about 3 million years. Corbell is quite old but because of the ship's close to speed of light velocity he is only a very elderly man when returning to earth.
When Corbell arives at the red giant that is the Sol system the story gets really good and is one of the best that Niven has ever wrote. First, because of various wars the earth is hardly habitable. The reasons for that is covered later on in the book. Second, Corbell discovers the last human on earth and she is both quite insane and well armed. Third, human beings have mutated drastically in three million years to a breeder type of human and the ruling children that are divided up into boys and girls. However, the boys and girls are fantastically old due to a DNA treatment that gives them near immortaltiy.
The boys are the rulers of earth and Corbell spends a good part of the novel either under their control or trying to escape from the boys. These parts of the reads are fast and fun. The typical reader will enjoy this part.
The sex, bluntly, is a little contrived. It's Niven's world and he may do with it as he wishes. However, this part of the book was written for the market of teenage boys of the '70s. It's a little distracting for adults of the 2000s.
But this book is fun and fast paced. The science is quite good and Larry has a great command of the science needed for near-fast-as-light driven space ships.
The real gem of this book is how Larry moves worlds. Few can do it so good. Larry gives us this feel of moving worlds in "Ringworld Engineers", in many of his known space books, and in this book. Basically, if you build an rocket engine as big as a small moon and use Uranus as a "fuel tank" then it's amazing what a person can move in space.
Larry can never go wrong in one of his old novels. This is a solid 4 star book and the typical reader will have it done in just a night.
I will miss Niven's writing quantity of the '70s to the '90s. However, he will have the novel "Fleet of Worlds" coming out in Fall of 2007; it's the 5th Ringworld novel. Perhaps I'll have the chance to talk with Larry again like in 1983. In 2007 I'll look forward to buying another Niven novel and donating it to my favorite High School.
Yes, I like his writings and you should be able to enjoy this novel.
The State Commands the Universe!.......2007-03-01
Larry Niven (1938) is a multi-awarded Hugo winner and best known by his "Ring World" series.
He is a "hard sci-fi" writer, that is to say he emphasizes scientific aspects of the narration over more humanistic facets. He is more concerned on the "how" rather than on the "who". His style is nearer to sci-fi writers of the '50s & early '60s than to more recent generations.
Niven has developed the Known Space Universe as a common background to many of his novels. "A World Out of Time" does not use this backdrop.
The story starts when Corbell's persona is revived on a new body. Corbell was frozen before dying in the `70s and awaited to be "awakened" when a cure to his cancer is available.
But... surprise, surprise, 200 years after he started his hibernation the State has become omnipotent and use ancient cryobodies to extract their personality and install it on criminal's bodies devoid of their personality.
Corbell realizes that he is absolutely helpless and must follow State's instructions. In his case consist in being trained as a starship pilot and sent into an interstellar "plowing" mission.
Once in deep spaces Corbell manages to cut loose and explores the galactic core. Then he tries to return to Solar System. Due to relativistic time-debt three million year has elapsed and he is not sure that the planet into which he is descending is ancient Earth.
From here on the story catch up momentum and really interesting situations are described: strange civilizations, animals and sentient interacting in complex relations.
This book is a good starting point to appreciate the author's writing style.

Well written hard sci-fi tale of time travel and immortality.......2006-08-20
A man dying of cancer in the 1970s voluntarily submits to freezing his body (cryogenic sleep) in the hope that future advances in medicine will allow him to be revived and cured. He awakes several hundred years later in somebody else's body. The body is that of a condemned criminal whose punishment was to have his mind/personality wiped out and replaced by the memories of one of the cryo-sleepers. The new government doesn't value this new man very highly and wants to use him to pilot a ship that will visit several stars at relativistic velocities to begin terraforming projects. He decides instead to take the ship to the Galactic center and travels near the supermassive black hole at the Galactic core. The combination of the relativistic effects and the travel near the black hole hurl him almost 3 million years into Earth's future. When he returns to our Solar system, he finds that Earth (or a planet similar to Earth) is orbiting a gas giant similar to Jupiter. A survey from orbit shows that there are only a few small pockets of life. This is where the real fun begins as he (and we) learn what happen to planet Earth over the past 3 million years.
This is part mystery, part adventure story, and part hard sci-fi tale about time travel and immortality. It is not part of the Known Space tales, but definitely worth a look nonetheless. Niven combines some ideas well rooted in science (relativistic time dilation) with some speculative notions about black holes, geriatrics, and genetics to create a compelling and readable tale. If I had any complaint about the story, it would be that it was too short. There are several parts in which I thought Niven could have further developed ideas and/or the plot line, but that seemed oddly rushed. I believe that the first chapter of this book was originally a self-contained short story that Niven modified and fleshed out for this novel. In any case, this is a very good, if not uniquely spectacular, hard sci-fi novel, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone with an interest in this genre.
Disregard the silly cover and buy the book. .......2006-06-17
I enjoyed this book. It is short but I love short thought provoking reads. As for the one nay saying review below, they do correctly point out that the story does appear to be two short stories with a different feel in the back 2/3's of the book. However, I enjoyed both parts of the book even though the book has a back half slower pace.
Just so you know, I read this book after reading the various Ringworld, Protector, Crashlander books. Though this is not along that same storyline it was a fun read.
By the way, the cover does give some clues as to the story so it is relavent though misleading.

Book Description
Tiffany works in Peeps Castle, keeping her coked-up boyfriend in drugs, her crazy mother off the streets, and her vulnerable friends together as best she can in this unblinkingly powerful debut by Timothy Reed. From the depths of abuse and neglect to the ironic stability of her lucrative job performing in a glassed-in booth on 42nd Street, Tiffany, still haunted by the voices of her “swine chorus,” is at the center of Showing Out, the story of a young woman and several of her co-workers. From her close friend, the birdlike Melanie who’s been in the flesh trade since she was thirteen years old, to the obnoxious transvestite Meeca, Showing Out paints indelible portraits of a handful of courageous fellow performers as they try to deal with their own love lives, drugs, AIDS, and the work. Punctuated by Tiffany’s memories of a childhood that included sexual abuse, an alcoholic mother, and an absent father, Showing Out tracks Tiffany’s struggle to move beyond her current life at the old Times Square—and Peeps Castle with it—juggernauts to its own end. Written by the daughter of renowned novelist Ishmael Reed, Showing Out is raw, real, and by turns hilarious and harrowing.

Timothy Reed An Astonishing New Voice.......2007-05-08
Make no mistake, neophyte novelist Timothy Reed can write. Her command of language and plot is enthralling in this breakneck paced tale of a young woman, recovering from a long bout with alcohol and drugs, working in a peep show in Times Square and supporting an abusive boyfriend. The story has an undeniable ring of truth, and Reed keeps you rushing from chapter to chapter to find out what will happen next in the lives of her indefatigable heroine, Tiffany, and her friends, family and co-workers as she emerges from years of abuse and wrong thinking and learns to show out in more ways than one. The peep show milieu is fascinating and presented without judgment, quite a feat, and my jaw dropped at the end of the final chapter. Timothy Reed is an astonishing new voice and I cannot wait to read what she has in store for us next.
good read.......2006-11-11
i enjoyed reading this book because its unlike many books that are out now. The story is a bout a young girl living in New York City who's in an unhealthy realtionship and works nights as a stripper. Through her at times deeply painful lifestyle, there is a gentle melancholy beauty to the way she tell hers story and lives of the people around her. A fascinating read.
The Fast Life.......2004-01-27
Tiffany lives life in the fast lane..She's got more $ than she knows what to do with.. A beautiful lady suffering with schizophrenia, troubled by horrible visions and voices of a woman who abused her as a child. The abuse doesn't stop there...Tiffany goes thru the daily motions, makin that money at Peeps, just to keep her drug addicted, abusive man off the streets..No matter that he is no good for her, at least she doesn't have to hear the "voices" in her head as long as he's around.Tiffany's mom isn't much better, she's an alcoholic and always has her hand deep in Tiffany's pocket. Tiffany's friend Melanie, who also works at Peeps, has HIV and a myriad of problems of her own..Throw in a few fellow dancers, who at times will show themselves to be both friend and foe,one whom is a transvestite who shares a shocking secret with Tiffany, and you've got the makings of a hell of a ride!
Showing out never stops moving..It's a page turner to say the least..Timothy Reed did an outstanding job in her debut..Keep an eye on her.Diagnosed as a schizophrenic herself in 1988, this lady is ontop of her game..She's definately got a story to tell....
I couldn't put this book down, I read it in two days (a girl has got to sleep you know)..The descriptions of the characters weren't over the top..She gave you just the right mix of words to get you to picture everything as it was, in your head..It wasn't overly vulgar like some books can be..But it still got it's point across..Just don't let your 13 year old read it..
It was funny at times, sad at times, tragic at times, but it was true to life.If anyone has ever wondered what life is like on the schizo side of things, this book will give you a peek....
I don't know about you, but I'd like to see a sequel to this!

An Invaluable Book for the Student of Peter Pan.......2007-09-13
J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan In and Out of Time: A Children's Classic at 100 is a wonderful resource for anyone who wishes to look at Peter Pan in a critical fashion. I first discovered this book through the library when I was doing a project on Peter Pan, and after I absolutely could not delay returning the book any longer, I found myself constantly refering to my bibliography and missing the book. So I ordered it! The essays in the book refer far beyond just Peter Pan-- the time period and ideas referenced are critical to understand when looking at other works in context, and also when looking at certain historical concepts. Since starting graduate school in Library Science, I've looked at this book several times, and most of those instances I was looking for general information in the essays regarding adolescense, gender roles, and other ideas and issues that are touched upon. I highly recommend this book!

Book Description
In Patricia Lewin’s novel of breathless suspense, a shaken CIA officer returns to the field, drawn not by duties but by the chance to save a man’s life . . . and to meet the father she hasn’t seen in years.
Though Erin Baker has left the CIA, the people who once directed her career tap her to penetrate a medical aid group that may be hiding a sinister purpose. In Cuba, the organization’s head doctor is Emilio Diaz, Erin’s estranged father. Erin has the skills and a perfect cover to penetrate Castro’s shadow world. She also has another reason to take the assignment. An ex-mentor, previously on the case, has vanished somewhere in Cuba.
Full of emotional landmines, this mission comes at a time when Erin’s life is at a crossroads. Alec Donovan, a colleague at the FBI, is pushing for more than friendship, and he wants Erin out of the Agency’s clutches. But Erin is already in–and though wanting to trust her charismatic father, she suspects that a dark plot is unfolding. Not knowing whom to trust or whom to believe, Erin fights her way deeper undercover until she is ultimately forced to make life-and-death decisions that will affect nations around the world.

Could be better.......2006-03-08
If you compare this book to its prequel and 'Blind Run' you'll see that this book misses the point many times. As a sequel you expect at least the same pace as 'Out of Reach' and you hope this can be as good as 'Blind Run'. If you expect that and start reading about landscapes of Cuba -so if you're going to Cuba you can read this- and a few thrilling parts you'll be bored. The book begins with the abduction of Joe and then you'll never read from him till the end. You'll never know how they found out about Padilla. What I'm writing here is that in this book are overly loose ends. Nevertheless if you already read 'Out of Reach' you can read this one but don't expect the thrill of its prequel.
Query:
If the U.S. citizens can't go to Cuba how is that there is a daily flight from Miami over there?
Don't miss OUT OF TIME.......2006-02-04
A fast-paced thriller with heart, OUT OF TIME provides readers with the best of both worlds. The vivid view into Cuba is an added bonus.
Erin's encounter with her father for the first time in decades is complex and compelling. The stakes are high. The potential for disaster real.
Make the time for OUT OF TIME!
Exciting and Thrilling - Find Time for "Out of Time"!!!! .......2006-01-12
Out of Time's action scenes had my whole body tensing! Former CIA agent Erin Baker is pulled for a mission in Cuba, to rescue her former mentor, Joe. Joe went missing while investigating Erin's father's medical clinic. Erin hadn't seen her father since she was five. While she is sorting through things in Cuba, her FBI agent friend (maybe more than friend) Alec begins investigating in Florida. Erin and Alec have many close calls as they unravel what's been happening. Just as you think the action is over, Lewin turns things around again, for a shocking ending that both satisfies and makes you wonder.
Out of Time mentions both sides of Cuban/American relations, and paints Cuba as a beautiful place, with most citizens coping well to their circumstances.
The prologue is a preview of an action scene to come. Some people love how it gets you into the story, but if you don't like spoilers, don't read it.
A wonderful thriller!.......2006-01-04
Patricia Lewin's prologue is brief, tautly written and drop kicks the reader into the center of the action in her latest suspense novel, Out of Time. It simply compels the reader to continue turning the pages.
Dr. Erin Baker left the CIA but is compelled to return to the field because of an opportunity to save a man's life and to meet her estranged father, Emilio Diaz, whom she hasn't seen in years. The agency wants Erin to go undercover in Cuba. And with her Cuban connections, she is the perfect choice.
Erin travels to Cuba with the story that she is a teacher. It is there that she is to infiltrate a medical aid organization that may have a more sinister purpose. She meets with her father who works for that organization, Doctors for Life.
But Alec Donovan of the FBI has strong feelings for Eric and wants more than a friendship. He also disapproves of the job she has taken on.
Lewin's Out of Time is romantic suspense at its best. The characters are believable and fully developed and the action is exciting. If you haven't read, Out of Reach, you'll decidedly want to do so.
Armchair Interviews says: If you like a scintillating thriller, Out of Time is for you.
Loved it!.......2005-12-27
Former CIA agent Erin Baker wants nothing more than to forget her last case, which involved her own family. However, only Erin can go undercover and infiltrate a medical aid group that may be hiding a darker purpose. Erin would have said no in a heartbeat, except that the organization's head doctor is her estranged father. Erin has not seen her father since she was small. But her father is not the only thing tempting Erin to accept the case. Someone Erin knows has disappeared while on the case before her. So off to Cuba she goes ... much to Alec Donovan's dismay.
***** Once I began I wanted not interruptions. This thriller will keep you on your toes, if not on the edge of your seat. LOVED IT! *****
