Book Description
Getting a young child to go to sleep and stay asleep is one of the most challenging aspects of parenting. Yet many parents resign themselves to enduring years of exhaustion. Practical help is not easy to find, and much of the available advice stresses letting even very young babies "cry it out," an option that is not comfortable for many parents. Kim West, known to her clients as The Sleep Lady®, has developed an alternative and effective approach that is gentler on both parent and child. West emphasizes that sleep is a learned skill and explains how parents can teach children to sleep, even at an early age. She starts with newborns, showing parents how to avoid sleep problems from the beginning. And she has solutions for older babies and children who have developed poor bedtime, nighttime, or nap time habits. The Sleep Lady methodincluding a gentle, practical, step-by-step program called The Sleep Lady Shufflehas proven effective for hundreds of families. West has spent more than a decade successfully teaching parents how to help their children sleep soundly and independently through the night. She provides specific, achievable guidelines that work, while also taking into account the values, lifestyles, and parenting styles unique to each family. Most parents who adopt The Sleep Lady Shuffle see dramatic improvements in a few weeks, if not days. Good Night, Sleep Tight contains age-specific chapters from birth through five years old, in which West succinctly outlines what action to take; discusses important developmental changes; provides sample waking, feeding, and napping schedules; advises how to use The Sleep Lady Shuffle; and lays out common problems and solutions. Included throughout are real-life testimonies and anecdotes from parents West has assisted. Good Night, Sleep Tight also discusses co-sleeping, bedtime strategies for twins and siblings, and dealing with nightmares and illnesses. West even offers tips on how to minimize sleep disruption when families travel or experience other breaks in routine. Essential reading for any tired parent, or any expectant parent who wants to avoid the pitfalls of sleeplessness, Good Night, Sleep Tight offers a practical, gentle, easy-to-follow remedy that will work for all families in need of nights of peaceful slumber.
Customer Reviews:
Not "Gentle".......2007-10-10
I was told that this was an alternative to the CIO method but it really isn't. You just stay in the room while they scream instead of leaving. It even suggests you keep a towel handy because your child may get so upset that he/she throws up, but if that happens you are still not supposed to pick them up. I don't consider that "gentle".
A good mix of sleep strategies.......2007-09-21
I first read Babywise, which a friend had given me. We started on a flexible schedule with feedings about every three hours. This was very helpful and a good start, but after reading some negative things about the book, I wanted to read some others. There are so many different theories on sleeping and feeding! I found Good Night, Sleep Tight and really liked it because it seemed to be a good mix of the different theories. There are a few main components that almost every sleep book I've read recommends, including having a bedtime routine, putting the baby down drowsy but awake, and creating a sleep friendly environment. This book begins with those basic components and gives you additional information and resources. I like that it gives some guidance as to what a typical schedule might be like, what you might expect, etc. It's also nice to see that what you're experiencing is very normal and that there are things you can do about it. My son started sleeping through the night at about 3 months. Naps are still a little difficult to settle him down for and I just pulled the book out again to get some advice on making naps a little easier. There is a whole section of suggestions. I don't think this is a cry it out book. She creates a middle ground between letting your baby cry and responding immediately. Although we didn't need to do the "Sleep Lady Shuffle" she suggests, so I can't comment on that. You will drive yourself crazy trying to find the "right" way to do things. Read what you can and do what feels right.
not worth it.......2007-08-25
This is essentially a "cry it out" book, except she recommends staying in the room for the crying part. There is no new information I could find. So utterly not worth it. It seems that this book was written to generate sales for her individual consultation service. If you've read "No Cry Sleep Solution" and "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" you do not need this book. Just meet the ideas in the middle and realize there will be some uncomfortable nights, then spend your money on something worthwhile.
Not much help for younger babies.......2007-08-24
We bought this book when our daughter was four months old (and had it shipped overnight--we were getting desperate!). It wasn't very helpful, as it turns out. Her advice for babies this age essentially boils down to letting them cry it out, but staying in the room with them. Not particularly helpful, especially since our daughter was more hysterical when we stayed in the room with her than when we left her alone. We ended up doing more of a Ferber approach. No fun for anyone involved, but it worked.
When she was seven months old, we went on a trip, and her sleep schedule got all messed up. We got the book out again, and this time read the chapter on six- to seven-month-olds. This is the age where West introduces her Sleep Lady Shuffle. The idea is that you stay near their crib and "shh-shh-shh" at them, pat their back, whatever. It's a pretty good approach, and it seems to work for our older baby. So if you're looking for advice on how to get your six-month-old to sleep, you'll probably get some good information here. If your baby is three months old, get another book.
It's okay.......2007-08-21
I needed something to tell me how much my baby should be sleeping and to give some direction on how to help that happen. If you want to or need to impose a schedule on your baby, this book is the least dogmatic I've read. It's also okay if what you want is some general baby sleep information.
Book Description
Little Bear learns that it's fun to venture off by yourself, but even better to know that you can go home again in this heart-tugging ode to the endearing, enduring bond between Big Bear and Little Bear.
One day Little Bear discovers a new cave that's the perfect size, just for him. He plays in it all day, eats supper there, and, with Big Bear's permission, even gets ready to spend the night. But when the big moon shines overhead and Little Bear is lying there all by himself, he suddenly realizes that Big Bear might be getting lonely back in the old Bear Cave. Perhaps it's time to go home. Big Bear and Little Bear, stars of CAN'T YOU SLEEP, LITTLE BEAR? and other beloved picture books by Hans Christian Andersen Medal winner Martin Waddell, are back in another classic story, lovingly illustrated with deft humor by Barbara Firth.
Customer Reviews:
Gentle and heartwarming.......2007-02-24
The story is really gentle and charming with a nice message that is relatable with young children who are starting to want to be more independent. Our 22 month old daughter can relate to all the things the little bear is doing. And the caring relationship with the parent is nicely portrayed. It is illustrated with soft watercolors. The graceful compositions and lighting make the book interesting to look at.
Sleep Tight, Little Bear.......2006-03-12
Author Martin Waddell and illustrator Barbara Firth have gotten it right again with this, their 7th, Little Bear book. In each book they capture a universal aspect of the parent-child relationship and this one is no exception. It is a timeless and touching tale of love and trust. The illustrations extend the text and add great details for the child to look at while being read to. The DVD interview with Martin Waddell which is included also increased my appreciation for these wonderful tales.

Book Description
With her national bestselling debut, Hush, Anne Frasier joined the ranks of Tami Hoag, Lisa Gardner, and Kay Hooper as a strong new voice in blockbuster suspense fiction. Now she pits a female FBI profiler against a serial killer whose violent history has ties to her own tragic past.
Customer Reviews:
Soooo Disappointing.......2007-04-28
Minneapolis police have a serial killer on their hands, one who is targeting blonde women, removing their eyes, and grafting flowers onto their fingers. Police immediately suspect a recently released convict of the crimes, but once the man is jailed and the murders continue to happen, police must scramble to find the real killer before more women die.
This is the last Anne Frasier book I will be reading. The plot was just dull. There was no excitement or thrill to this supposed thriller. There was a sibling rivalry aspect to this novel, between police officers, that was just silly. And the murdered friend angle was a giant yawn. Overall, I find Anne Frasier's novels to disappointing. I would not recommend them to anyone.
Very good, but the last chapter...welllll...........2006-10-12
I think this would have rated 5 stars from me had the last chapter been just a little different in some way, and I really can't say how. I kind of guessed earlier in the book where this second plot was going and thought it might be resolved in some way, which it was, but after the intensity of the main plot, the last chapter just sort of let me down. I agree with anyone who is calling for a Mary Cantrell sequel...Even a Gillian Cantrell sequel, one in which Gillian has a little more luck. The bottom line though is that this is one very good book, with some terrific characters and police agencies who actually get over their personal lives when police work needs to be done and they do some investigating. Anne Frasier did a great job of showing characters who have personal lives and professional lives and how they interact but don't interfere. Truly a page turner. This is the second book by her that I have read. Can't wait to start the next one.
Blonde High School Girls Beware.......2006-03-26
I was able to solve the sub-plot murder but could not nail the murderer for the major plot. My score 1 out of 2, not bad. This does not mean that the story lacks depth of intrigue and plot turning angles to stall you. It is not a dead give away.
The writing is incredible as it lifts you away breathlessly with a seamless flow from how the murderer thinks to how FBI detective, Mary, conducts a methodical analysis of the murderer as she is a trained behavioral scientist to scenes of cosy family atmoshphere that Mary's mother Blythe has created for her two daughters. Past and present are cleverly interwined with no abrupt beginnings or endings to jolt you out of the blue.
Family tensions also stews between Mary & her sister, Gillian, due to an unresolved murder of Mary's high school friend, Fiona that happened more than ten years ago. Romantic tension for Mary comes in the form of her FBI partner, Anthony.
Somehow the resolution for the main plot's murder was rather contrived. I thought the ending would be more in step with what happened to the rest of the victims rather than making an exception.
A very good read that scores very high in the crime thriller category!
AMAZING.......2006-02-16
i am currently a freshman in highschool and read this book last year and i am not really one of those people that like to read that much and when i first got this book it was just for something to do while i was on a plane for 3 hours (went to disneyland for christmas) but once i started reading this i had trouble putting it down it just kept me wanting to see what happend next i even stayed up till about 1 am reading one night and at the ending i actually yelled at the book (NO SHE CAN'T BE DEAD!!) this was the first Anne fraiser book i ever read and after this i went right back online and bought the other 3
and right now i am counting down till her next book comes out
You can't sleep tight reading this one.......2005-08-31
Anne Frasier really knows how to churn them out. Her books always leave you with a feeling of not being able to put them down once you've started them. After finishing them, you can't wait to pick up her next one.
Sleep Tight is true to form. Every time I put this book down, I had to pick it up to read some more. I must have guessed wrong, on "who did it" several times. Her characters are so real they jump out of the page at you.
I recommend this book highly.

Customer Reviews:
Love this book!.......2006-02-08
My daughter (2.5) and I fell in love with this book the first time we read it. I love that all the baby animals sleep with mommy or daddy. This book makes me feel all warm and fuzzy every time I read it. The illustrations are very sweet.
My 3-year-old's favorite.......2005-08-14
I stumbled on this book at a remainder sale last year, and I think it is the best bedtime book we have ever had. My daughter always asks for the bunnies book at bedtime. It has cute illustrations of animal mommies and daddies putting their babies to sleep, with rhymes about each one. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Bedtime animals for single parents and lightbulbs.......2005-01-18
Apparently written for single parents, this bedtime story shows single animals putting their offspring to sleep. Despite the lightbulb-headed, look-alike animal illustrations, my two year old loves this book and it's been a favorite of his for almost a year. I like it because it doesn't tire me out; all of the illustrations span two pages, so this 24-page book reads more like a 12-pager. (Those of you who love your child more than 12 pages worth might consider the 72 page Green Eggs and Ham as an alternative). London-based author/illustrator Dawn Apperley has illustrated dozens of children's books. To find a title you may have missed on Amazon, search also under the misspelled "Dawn Apperly."
Awsome bedtime story.......2004-07-23
I have two toddlers and they just love this story. They love to try to say the different animals names and colorfull pictures. I think the rhymes are great too. Great book!
Wonderful Bedtime Story!.......2004-02-13
I bought this for my 2yr old and he absolutely loves it! The story is about different animals settling their little ones down for the night. The illustrations and the text are wonderful. Overall, the book is very soothing and a perfect "last book" at bedtime. When my son is ready to go to bed, he lets me know by saying "Night Night Little Bunnies" and going to get this book off his bookshelf, ready for storytime! We have quite a collection of good children's books, but this is one of the very best for bedtime reading.
Customer Reviews:
Sleep Tight.......2005-01-08
I liked the first two fifths of the story very well, but after that I'd say the story went to hell in a hand basket literally as well as figuratively. It went from being this charming, fun romantic comedy to a horror story. If you took the book and chopped off the last three fifths and burned it, then you could enjoy the first part and then make up the rest of the story yourself.
Fan from the midwest.......2004-10-17
Ms. Altom has a gift for writing compelling stories with a feeling of a fractured fairy tale. Sleep Tight is both emotional and funny with a satisfying ending.
try again.......2004-10-16
A good idea for a story but terrible writing... excrutiatingly bad writing.... the story drags for over 100 pages and then when Belle and Boone end up in hell the story gets so ridiculous, that it is impossible to follow. The forced sexual tension could not save this badly written waste of money. Ms. Altom should really take some courses in plot development because this is a real stinker. If this is what publishers accept for publication just because romance sells, they've sorely misread their audience.
A Fairy Tale for fairies........2004-09-28
Tooth Fairy Belle Moody has fallen on hard times. Her Aunt Lila, a retired fairy, has lost the family money in bad stock market deals. Help comes from a friend of Belle's Uncle, a retired Easter Bunny, who hires Belle to be a pretend Princess. Boone Wentworth is sick and grief stricken. The man believes he is dying. When he uncovers the bogus Princess, he thinks that she is only there to con some money out of him and his mother. So he abducts her...things get complicated by lies, attraction, and the call of the Dark Side. Sleep Tight in an entertaining, though somewhat uneven, fairy tale romance. Some of the real life aspects just don't blend all that well with the Fairy aspects, but the characters are likable and there is plenty of humorous zing at times.
engaging fantasy romance .......2004-09-08
Tooth fairy Belle Moody enjoys her job, but now worries about how she will place coins under the pillows of little children since her beloved Aunt Lila lost all their cash. Needing money, she daylights at a second job by pretending to be a European princess with an unpronounceable name. Her current gig is working for recently widowed Maude Wentworth, who is concerned with the growing darkness that engulfs her son Boone. Maude knows Belle's prime occupation having come from the same fairy land and hopes that the young woman will prove to be the impetus to bring Boone out of his depression.
Boone believes that Belle is a fake conning his mother ands her friends. Though he feels he will die soon as he cannot explain the sudden growth of wings on his body, he will not allow anyone to harm his mom. He abducts Belle taking her to his remote ranch. As they spend time together, Belle and Boone fall in love, but he fights his feelings because he does not want a second woman mourning his death.
This engaging fantasy romance is a fun tale that starts a bit slow to establish the "reality" of the fairy land cast so that the audience will believe in the tooth fairy and other whimsical species. Once the key characters are established the story line moves forward at a rapid speed and never decelerates until Boone faces the real truth of his delicate condition. Sub-genre fans will go to sleep believing in the magic of Laura Marie Altom.

Great bedtime storybook for a boy........2000-12-11
I read this book every night at bedtime to my young son for several years. The simple text rhymes and is great for getting a child used to a bedtime routine that includes reading. The story is about a boy who is playing, then gets his bath, has a bedtime snack, and goes to bed.
