Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

It's a reprint- not a new book!.......2007-10-09

Oops! I, too, ordered this book months ago, thinking that it would be a new release. When it arrived, I can't tell you how disappointed I was that it was a very early Amelia- which I not only had already read, but I already owned a copy of. I was just going to "suck it up", assuming that I was the only one who hadn't read the discription closely enough, but I see that I was not the only one that did this. You'd better believe that I'll be more careful in the future- and hope that others will too.

This is the 3rd book of the Amelia Peabody series. Those of us who have been following Elizabeth Peters' series at first were confused, but it is a release of an old book. For those new to the series, Amelia is trying to find out who murdered an antiques dealer - The cast includes Emerson, a brilliant and volatile archaeologist, of course his wife,Amelia, whom he calls Peabody, their young son, Ramses, and in this outing Ramses has his cat, The Cat Bastet, whom he would carry around his shoulders - All of the early books are great, but if you want to get into the 'meat and potatoes' of the series, try The Last Camel Died at Noon - It introduces Nefret to the series, and Emerson has never been so heroic - The early books are good because Ramses is a gifted child - but he tends to expound a lot - BUT the funny thing of it is, he seems to have a knack of saving his parents a lot - If the publishers are going to rerelease the books, great - When is the current book coming? The 'children' in this series are grown - and we can't wait - hello Ms. Peters??

Intrepid Egyptologist Amelia Peabody and her irrascible husband, who has been dubbed the "Father of Curses" by the Egyptian natives, once again set forth to uncover the treasures of the ancient pharoahs. This time they take along with them their young son nicknamed Ramses and John, a servant in their employ from England.

Relegated to digging in an area deemed 'not worthy' by husband Radcliff Emerson, they are soon in the midst of a complex situation wherein a band of antiquities thieves are being lead by a Master Criminal. As Amelia tries to do her detective work she is stymied by a host of suspects and conflicting clues and information. After she and Radcliffe are thrown into the thick blackness of an ancient burial chamber in the Black Pyramid without hope of rescue, they are left to wonder if they have indeed met their fate.

This reader found the plot confusing, as though it was searching for a way to untangle itself. The redeeming grace of this book is Ramses, who speaks with the vocabulary of a university professor with a lisp that makes him all the more endearing. The characters here are stronger than the plot and have earned this book four stars.

It's too bad that most people won't bother reading a book on psychology unless it's self-help. This book took me completely by surprise with the range and genuine voice. The stories in this book aren't all bizarre - some are more mundane - but they are made worthwhile through their retelling. I think every reader will discover an appreciation for anyone, therapists and otherwise, who has ever ventured into unknown territory in the name of helping another. In fact, the insight that comes from these stories is born out of the years since the anecdote. Every contributor in this volume is interesting, sometimes funny, and always aware of the sheer risks that come from dealing with cases that are unprecedented and unique. There's a senior citizen who is happily prostituting herself to the chagrin of her family, a psychologist who ventures into shamanism for his solution, and even a man who has unusual feelings for cows - all are presented with great heart and never condescension or disgust.

Although this book is by no means a forum for psychological advice or guidance, it might go a long way towards convincing you that you are nowhere as weird as you think.

Pure therapeutic heaven! Well-known therapists share their most bizarre cases that have touched them the most---both in memory and heart. A common denominator to all of these stories was that what ultimately mattered most was the relationship between the therapist and the client, and the ability for the therapist to hear the client's song, even if it was from an unfamiliar genre.

Generally human behaviour is odd at the best of times. As inhabitants of the planet, most of us do try to live happy and productive lives against varying degrees of opposition, and sometimes our coping skills, the actions we take to be happy, appear to others, including ourselves, to be quite bizarre. This book is a selection of unusual cases from the files of leading therapists. It should be made clear from the start that this isn?t a freak show, tales of the macabre, but a genuine telling of memorable cases from professionals who have made it their life?s work to help people in dire need.

After finishing the text, it also became clear to me that the business of the mind, psychiatry and psychology, is by no means a strict science. The various therapeutic techniques out their being used around the world run into the thousands. It is a social science that is constantly changing and developing. In other terms, there is no blanket cure all ? a miracle technique to make us into happy productive people.

After reading these cases, what most of the therapists had in common was their intuition. They?re confronted by an unusual case, and through active listening, a bit of trial and error, in some instances a breakthrough was made. Sometimes a little progress is made and the session ends, leaving the therapist to remain wondering for years what happed to that particular client. Some of the cases in this collection are exceedingly bizarre, while others, to a great extent, touched the heart. Some of us are pretty resilient beings and can put up with a lot of suffering and pain, and somehow come out smiling. Moreover, there are some cases represented in this book that showed me that some of us need our illnesses simply to live on a day-to-day basis.

Out of the thirty-one cases in the text, all interesting and unique in their own way, one stood out for me the most. The therapist was Bradford Keeney, and the case is called: ?The Medicine Man Who Never Had a Vision.? What makes this case unique was Keeney?s uncanny intuition about how to handle the Indian Shaman. The treatment would not be found in any textbook. In fact, the treatment came to him in a vision! The Shaman followed Keeney?s instructions to the letter to great results. What was even more fascinating was what transpired later, when another Indian came to Keeney with a problem that sent chills up my spine. He dreamed of being confronted by warriors, and his face painted red. The man awoke with his face actually painted red! He was troubled by this and needed some advice from the ?white? medicine man. This case reinforced the fact that the mind and spirit have far greater potential and depth than we care to admit.

This book is written with genuine compassion and a noticeable humanity. Highly recommended to those interested in the mind and our culture in general.

Just when you thought you couldn't be amazed by something along comes this book. I don't really know who a lot of the therapists are but that didn't keep me from being entranced by this book. The stories of people whose lives are so incredibly complicated either by their own making or by what life had handed them was incredible. I really enjoyed the ways that the counselors were able to help these people with their predicamants. Makes one realize how blessed one's life truly is in comparison to what other people deal with!!

Frank and Joe are asked to safeguard an Egyptian mummy being transported from a New York museum to Egypt and to locate five valuable Egyptian statuettes stolen from the museum. Also, Mr. Hardy asks the boys help in stopping a gang of rebels on a small Mediterranean island nation. This book was action packed and fans of the volumes currently produced would probably love this book; however, fans who liked the volumes of the original series, when Frank and Joe primarily stayed in and around Bayport, will find this book too modern for their liking and probably won't enjoy it as much.

Great Fun for Younger Readers!.......2002-03-19

There's more going on than Joey Pignattano's big upcoming event: to eat a worm (for a dollar). The second grade teacher is a sweetheart - will she finally win the pumpkin pie baking contest this year? Then there's the really scary story floating around about the real mummy that comes every Halloween -it can't be true, can it? But then . . . the mummy (gasp!) shows up at school for Halloween! Cool fun for younger readers (and not really scary).

It all started with a bet. Joey Pignattano, Jigsaw's friend, is going to eat a worm on Halloween for a dollar. Everyone ( except Bigs Maloney) thinks it's a gross, and I mean gross, idea. Finally, Joey's big day comes. Jigsaw brings some worms for Joey, but just before the school's annual pie contest, the worms disappear! This looks like a job for Jigsaw Jones and Mila Yeh. This book was a little bit duller than "The Case of the Spooky Sleepover", another Jigsaw Jones book. Good luck on new books James Preller.

My six year old loves these books. And for his parents? We couldn't be happier to find a series of well written mysteries for kids. Preller's situations and characters are fun and up-to-date. We're in the middle of reading them all and have liked each one enormously. One caveat: this particular book had me reading a few sections with my stomach in my throat. Of course my kids thought that Joey Pignattano eating a worm was nothing more than great fun. I guess you just have to be under 20 to understand!

One of my Faves........2005-10-20

The Kindaichi Case Files is one of my favorite manga series. I have tried to read other mystery mangas but none of them can stand up to the intrigue of Kindaichi's Case Files. Kindaichi is a really down to earth laid back guy who has a very high IQ and knack for noticing the small details nobody else sees. One of the greatest things about this manga is the fact that there are clues to solving the case in the drawings. So if you look carefully enough you maybe able to find the casebreaker before Kindaichi does. Compare that to other mystery mangas where you really have no idea what's going on until the main character reveals the solution. With every case, you will notice your ability to solve the cases begin to improve. This is one of the few mangas that will exercise your mind as well as entertain you.

I love mystery, novel or manga. Kindaichi series is one of the greatest Mystery I have ever read along with Agatha's Ten Little Indian and Edogawa Rampo's Japanese Tales of Mystery and Imagination. The English version seems pretty accurated. The only question I have is How many cases TokyoPop planned to release? So far, it seems like they will release 12; however, I remember they are much more than that. I'm not remember exactly how many since it've been awhile since I read them, and the serie end couple years ago. I think the manga serie alone has at lease 19 full cases and some shorter cases.
After this manga serie end, the creator also created another manga serie I don't remember the name, I think it's Dun, Detective School or something along that line. The serie has the same theme and feeling as Kindaichi series, althought I don't like it as much. I hope TokyoPop will bring it here for manga fan in US to enjoy also.

Personally, I believe this is one of the best detectives book I've read. There are so many little details that the main character points out that it's amazing! If you're the type that loves both manga and mystery this is highly recommended

I stumbled apon this accedentily, sorry for spelling, on the Tokyopop web site. I read the plot and fell in love. I am a HUGE fan of manga and murder mysteries so I got it and I LOVE it it's an amazing manga!!! You also get some major BANG for your BUCK, It's over two hundred paged and only [$$$] which is god for a manga. I can't wait for the rest to come out I promise you I'll buy them all. And if the anime series coems out I'll but that too :)!!

Kindaichi is Excellent!.......2003-06-06

I am a long time fan of Kindaichi and I am thrilled to see that it is finally available in English from Tokyo Pop! The series was very popular in Japan spawning a 50+ episode anime series, 2 animated movies, 2 live action TV series, a live action movie, 2 series of manga, novels, bilingual comics, english novels(printed in Japan), as well as loads of special editions and merchandise!

*ahem*

Hajime Kindaichi is the grandson of the famous Japanese detective Kousuke Kindaichi, a popular fiction character(much like Sherlock Holmes) who was popular in 70's and 80's. Kindaichi is a genius, especially when it comes to solving difficult crimes. Miyuki Nanase is Hajime's oldest friend and she often accompanies him on his adventures.

Each Kindaichi story is a murder mystery(often serial murder) where the murders are carried out in a seemingly impossible way. Kindaichi puts the clues together and finds the link between the victims until he figures out who the murderer is. Then, usually, he tricks the murderer into giving himself(or herself!) away.

Volume 1 "The Opera House Murders" is the tale of Fudo High's drama club who take a trip to an island to prepare for the drama competition in the wake of the suicide of their best actress. One by one, members of the drama club are being murdered in ways that mimic the play they are rehearsing, The Phantom of the Opera. After the first murder all lines of communication with the outside world are cut by a vicious storm and the fact that someone has cut the line on the boat.
I won't say anymore because I don't want to spoil the mystery......

As with all Tokyo Pop titles the print quality is lacking, but for the price there is no sense in complaining. The translation isn't as smooth as it could be. Some of the truly beautiful prose found in both the original Japanese and the bilingual editions are lost. Sometimes the dialogue is choppy and the jokes don't translate well, but overall it isn't a bad translation. One nice thing about the TP editions is the fact that each book is one self contained mystery. The mysteries in the original editions often spanned 2 or 3 smaller books.

Kindaichi is a wonderful read. I loaned my bilingual editions to all of my friends and everyone, male and female, anime fans and otherwise, enjoyed them.

I highly reccomend this to fans of manga and anime, as well as fans of mysteries. Even if you don't normally read mystery stories(like me) give Kindaichi a try. You'll probably enjoy it.

Another plus of these books is the fact that they have a great repeat factor - after the mystery is solved it's fun to read them again and look for the clues(which are there!) that point to the killer!
