Book Description
With his characteristic investigative eye and Menckenesque prose,
R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. sheds new light on Bill Clinton's post-presidential emotional depression, globe trotting and international deal-making, financial ties to China and the United Arab Emirates, ongoing womanizing, vital support role in Hillary Clinton's anticipated run for the White House, and possible role as America's first "First Man."

Tyrell: American Sphincter.......2007-09-19
Moron Tyrell is yet another wingnut who can't accept that Clinton is gone. They must all have a secret yearning for Hillary in '08 to make their pathetic lives seem worthwhile. Maybe they're all in denial after seven years of G. W. Dumbass and the weekly scandals of his crooks and cronies.
Clinton Crackup.......2007-09-19
While I hated to see Clinton move into the presidency, and, of course, hated his actions even more following Lewinsky, it's a wonder that we still have a country at all. I most certainly would not buy anything that might give him (or her, for that matter) any type of grace, and only scanned the pages at a local bookstore. That was quite enough for me, thank you very much. Now, unfortunately, it looks as though Miseries Clinton might be our next president. Hold onto your wallets, people!
Well done - Emmett needs a thesaurus though.......2007-09-07
No secret that Tyrrell does not like the Clintons. Somehow, those supporting Clinton have a big problem with a book like this and have NO problem with books claiming Bush knew about 9/11, Bush is in tight with the Saudis, etc.
If nothing else, this book is VERY thorough. There were times when I was reading it that I thought "How did the editor let THAT stay in the book?"
Tyrrell has a habit of writing to an MBA level. Which I guess is ok but there are those of us who, while having a complete control of the English language, we don't feel the need to try to impress people with it.
So many times, I read this thinking the author could have used a different word to mean the same thing and not come across as high-brow. Bill Buckley can get away with - he's about the only one.
Bottom line - the book is solid reading, powerful, and damning to Bill and Hillary.
Too Much of the Clintons is Never Enough.......2007-08-30
Sure, the title is hyperbolic, the writing has little of that flinty incisiveness of muckrakers like Tarbell and Sinclair, a good deal of the material is old news, the editing could have been better, but, oh, what fun! For political junkies like me, Our Bill and his lovely Life Partner are simply the gifts that keep on giving. As the wide diversity and vigor of reviewers' reactions demonstrate, love 'em or hate 'em, they are simply fascinating.
Now, one can't expect the shenanigans of Post-Prez Bill to be as interesting as his time in the Oval Office if only because, for instance, there has bobbed to the surface no stained women's clothing--yet. Nonetheless, the mind reels and the spirit soars as Tyrrell not only revisits the low crimes and misde-wieners of the Clintons' time in the Arkansas governor's mansion and the White House, but takes us on a poignant tour of Our Bill's meanderings in the real world, i.e., the world where his only power derives from political suasion and the relentless pursuit of greater wealth. If nothing else, Tyrrell's listing of the President's last-minute pardons and commutations, complete with the crimes committed by those receiving those astonishing absolutions, is worth the price of admission. No one, least of all Bill himself, has ever explained or rationalized how these low-lives deserved legal reclamation, justifying the inevitable conclusion of critics then and now that they were exchanged for past, present, or future consideration, much of it brokered by the Clinton and Rodham siblings.
And then there's Hillary. Just as I conclude my reading, what breaks but another campaign contribution imbroglio involving The Hill. Turns out that Norman Hsu, one of the Mrs.'s large contributors for the last several years, is a wanted fugitive from California justice and is somehow related to the Paw family of Daly City, several members of whom have made contributions coincident with those of Mr. Hsu which may or may not have been illegally funded by the latter. Mr. Paw, also Chinese, is a mail carrier, and yet the family has somehow found 45 G's to give to The Hill. The eyes tear and the throat constricts with mirth as one of the Paw family members turns out to be named Winkle. (Does the Supreme Being stay up at night devising names for those involved in Clinton scandals, you know the rich Marc Rich, et al? Does Winkle have siblings named Blinkle and Nod? But I digress.)
Astute readers will recall that Our Bill had some problems with Chinese contributors during his reign. One might have thought that those painful experiences would have convinced the Clintons they should limit their Chinese contacts to calling for take-out, but I guess not.
I'm not saying your life won't be complete if you don't read this book, but I found it a very enjoyable meander through these troubled lives. Think of it as a between-meal snack as we await The Hill's nomination for the presidency. Then it can serve as a reference point for the inevitable--and entirely justified--dredging up of the Clinton scandals by the Hillary Haters. Pray with me to the political gods that all this comes to pass: it will be a great 2008!
The Clinton Crackup.......2007-08-23
I have read the book. Tyrell is a gifted writer who records the continuing docu-drama of Bill Clinton's life. Coming away from this book there is the sense of flawed personality aspects outweighing good ones. I,too, wonder why people continue to find Clinton viable, attractive and charming. He is much to be pitied. Are Bill and Hillary a sign of the times - the narcissistic epitome of anything goes?
What Bill does fascinates us all - some love him, some don't. He "is" a national security leak and the continuing saga confirms it. One thing the book makes clear - if you set your sights on a particular goal and then
work towards it you will achieve it. Bill and Hillary had been working a long time to achieve their ambition. Though he did not win by a majority, other forces helped in the achievement of Bill's amibition.
These 2 people are very focused individuals. The truth of their lives is appallingly clear. If we are a product of our times, what does that say
about the kind of people we elect to high office. And how did we get to this cultural state of affairs.

First half good 2nd half is like What???? are they doing?.......2007-09-29
Just like the title says no more no less. Lorna's story in the last 2 issues with the green blob don't fit and it's like who comes up with this crap?!!??!?
Godd Start but open ending.......2007-09-25
This book starts off good with a lot of action and a look of what happens the next day. But in the end if falls short. There are more questions than answers and the big battle between the x-men and sentinels vs. the Sapiens League felt a little rushed and a lot of details are left out. If you want answers this is not a book for you. I was really enjoying the book and then it end. No conclusion at all.
must have.......2007-08-02
This is essential. My friend is a huge comic book fan and he had wholes in his story and could not figure out why, then i gave him this book and everything is complete. This is essential readung for after House of M. If you love the X-Men you must read this to see why they are on the sidelines, and this sets up ENDANGERED SPECIES.
The more things change..........2007-04-30
Taking place after the events of Brian Michael Bendis' surprisingly good House of M mega event, Decimation: X-Men - The Day After follows the X-Men in the aftermath of the global mutant depowerment. What gets focused on the most in the issues collected here include the return of the robotic Sentinels (who are good guys now...) along with the forging of new alliances with some unexpected guests. Later on, Havok and Polaris find themselves on the road back to each other as Havok helps Lorna deal with the loss of her powers. That's pretty much all that goes on in Decimation: X-Men - The Day After, and while there are some nice story quips by the underrated Peter Milligan (X-Statix, Human Target), there's nothing relatively worth seeing here that hasn't been seen before. Salvador Larroca provides his usual solid artwork too, so the overall package isn't so bad. That being said, there are better X-Men stories, and House of M tie-in's, that are more worth your time than the X-Men's decimation day.
Sad ending to an awesome story arc........2007-01-04
This add on to the "House of M" story arc was apparently conceived to squeeze a little more money out of that storyline. The collection only looked at the widespread repurcussions of no more mutants for the first couple of issues in the collection. It then wandered into an idiotic Havok/Polaris story that was left hanging. Not worth the investment for the occasional reader but may be useful to the collector.
Book Description
This book taps into two powerful trends in American culture: a national passion for home décor and remodeling, and a growing interest in the ancient Chinese art of feng shui. In Feng Shui Before & After Stephen Skinner has written a comprehensive, practical, hands-on guide to using feng shui to make redecorating choices in any room in a house, from the kitchen to a nursery. The founder of the internationally popular magazine, Feng Shui for Modern Living, Skinner shows how rearranging furniture, a mirror, changing colors, or even hanging a wind chime can restore harmony and maximize the flow of "ch'i", or good energy, to a room. Feng Shui Before & After also explores the feng shui concepts of the "magic square," the ability to discover which sectors of a house relate best to specific areas of a homeowner's life, and the most and least fortunate directions in a room. A perfect balance between a Western demand for reinvention and a timeless Eastern art, this is an essential book for anyone searching for harmony within the walls of his or her own home.

Yes, There is Life After Housework.......2007-04-04
Never again wonder if that stain will come out. This reference book will show you how to get that stain out.
Interesting Book.......2007-01-17
This book is full of interesting material and helpful hints to relieve the pain of housework.
Handy Cleaning Reference.......2006-01-13
If you've ever wondered how to remove a stain, clean your carpet, or de-lime your shower, it's because you don't have this book. I bought Aslett's book a few years ago and still keep it handy as a reference guide to cleaning procedures. His recommendations on getting the house to clean itself have saved me hours of housework.
A Very Useful Book!.......2004-05-11
This book is the most useful book on cleaning I have read. The author owns a cleaning business and shares tips on how to very efficiently and effectively both clean and de-clutter your home. He also discusses ways to keep the house from getting dirty to start with. I've used his tips for years now and have just re-read my copy of this and refreshed my memory [and got even more ideas!].
The author also writes very humorously, so it is an easy and fun book to read. Nothing too heavy but full of great ideas and suggestions. He is writing to an older generation perhaps, his ideas about housewives seem a bit out of date, but otherwise it is an enjoyable and extremely helpful book.
This book will save your sanity!.......2000-02-27
The recs for professional supplies and vacuums have already saved me at least 50% of my cleaning costs - not to mention improved my time and cleaning. I send this book to new brides.

Great pictures and ideas.......2007-08-26
I looked through many books when it was time to have a bathroom redone. This book although not large, had some of the best pictures and ideas of the many books I looked at. I used one of their bathrooms as the base for my remodel and it came out looking great. Definitely check this book out if you are thinking of remodeling or even just freshening up a bathroom.
A Great Addition to a Design Library.......2007-02-13
This is a very good source book. Novel ideas are presented with great clarity. The quality of the images is spectacular.

Customer Reviews:
Great under the cover ideas..........2007-09-21
This little treasure will have you looking at cast off items with a more resouceful eye. Many of these items would not get a second glance but the author has found interesting ways to repurpose flea market or discarded items. The project on the front cover is an example of a creative way to use those small side boards once part of old dining room sets. I am a fan of stripes, so the small dressers done in wide stripes has great appeal as well as a playful side. The techniques suggested can be applied to a variety of objects not just the ones illustrated in the book. I can't wait to go out this week end and rescue some unloved objects and give them a new lease on life. Undoubtedly this book is a great find...one of the best for sparking new ideas for those low on cash but high on imagination.

Customer Reviews:
Outdated and Disappointing.......2006-06-30
While I did find some valuable tips, most of the rooms were outdated, and overall I was disappointed by this book. Try Trading Spaces' "Instant Impact" or Martha Stewart's "Decorating with Color" instead.
Affordable decorating.......2006-05-18
Decorating that is affordable (not cheap) and realistic. Good ideas, suggestions and projects for all rooms.
Great Book for the DIY, HGTV, TLC Channel Fan.......2006-01-13
I watch a lot of HGTV, DIY and TLC channels and am hooked on the decorating shows.
I liked this book because it DID give practical info and many of the projects were not budget-busters. I mean the kitchens didn't look like they were using a $75K budget like on Designer's Challenge. Most of the projects seemed more in line of something a DIY could tackle, i.e. painting cabinets, sewing window coverings, wallpapering, etc.
Various decorating styles were covered in this book and I got lots of ideas from it. Most of the included projects did not seem difficult. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for ideas to update their home without spending LOTS of money.
Become a Before & After pro indeed.......2005-09-26
This book explains how to transform different rooms in one's home as it clearly categorize the different rooms and shares design ideas for anyone, from people with an interest in Interior Design (like myself) even to individuals who don't really care about Design, but simply wishes to have change and variety. It is also simple in that sense because there are certain projects and "how-to" explanations for creating certain 'looks' directly from the rooms featured in the book. From creating your own storage cabinets and areas to wall treatments and other projects are featured in this book. This book has certainly spiked my interest in Interior Design even more. I love it and I can ALWAYS refer to it.
hgtv before and after decorating.......2005-09-10
i love watching hgtv and do so almost every day. this book has great ideas and you can do most of the stuff by yourself. there are several projects that i plan to have my husband make for storage. they even let you deside your own style which is great because i love the way just little changes can make your whole room better. one of the better books to decorate with.

Customer Reviews:
Fun and interesting history of the presidency.......2007-04-21
This book makes for light reading but it does offer a unique insight into what president's have done after leaving office and how the role has evolved and differed over the years. It also offers interesting insights into how the various presidents have interacted with one another and with the public at large including how they seem to regain or obtain a measure of respect that eluded them in office. One flaw that kept this from being a five star review was the number of editorial mistakes including a number of incorrect dates listed through out the book that ultimately made a perfect book slightly imperfect. But don't let that stop you from reading this!
Second Acts: Presidential Lives and Legacies After the White House.......2006-12-23
Second Acts tells the very human stories of the transitions Presidents Truman through Clinton made from president to private citizen--albeit very public ones. The book is highly readable, revealing the character of the men it covers in ways more illuminating than standard historical tomes. The Library Journal proclaimed it "highly recommended." So do I.
A most ejoyable book to read.......2006-12-16
This book tells of the post-presidential years of all the Presidents beginning with Truman. It is jam packed with interesting information, and while it may break no new ground it does a superlative job of summing the times and men involved. It is a very easy read, and I found it fun to read.
Essential for any collection strong in American history or politics........2006-12-12
Second Acts: Presidential Lives and Legacies After the White House chronicles the activities of former presidents who, far from retiring from office, are making important contributions. Now ex-presidents perform valuable services such as international emissaries, taking their own agendas overseas. Interviews with former presidents, first ladies, family member and staff members not only present these activities, but analyze how ex-presidents are continuing to shape the politics and events of the Oval Office. Essential for any collection strong in American history or politics.

California Bookwatch
Trivial.......2006-11-12
This book was an interesting read that broke virtually no new ground. Most of the knowledge about post-Presidential activities has been in the public domain for years. You'd think Clinton was the most important ex-President ever given the space spent on him.
The fatal flaw in the book was the error that had John Kennedy assassinated on November 20, 1963. C'mon, my 11 year old knows what happened on November 22nd and so should an author on Presidential history. This alone suggests someone was hugely asleep at the wheel and causes one to ask what other fatal flaws got in the book.
