Book Description
The saga of Yorick Brown, the last man on Earth, continues in PAPER DOLLS, writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra's award-winning VERTIGO series. In addition to catching up on the adventures of Yorick's monkey Ampersand (whose body holds the key to stopping the male-killing plague) and telling the origin of Agent 355, PAPER DOLLS chronicles Yorick and 355's search for Yorick's fiancee Beth in Australia -- a search that yields a large dose ofunwanted publicity for the Last Man, and deadly consequences for those he cares for!

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Yorick has finally arrived and is a position to look for Beth. However, he runs into a big problem when a journalist from a less than broadsheet quality newspaper finds out he is still alive, and is a story she definitely does not want to lose. He does eventually find Beth, and he certainly gets a hell of a surprise when he sees her.

Brian K. Vaughan, Y: The Last Man: Paper Dolls (Vertigo, 2006)
(Note: this review contains major spoilers for earlier books in the series. If you're not up to date with the series, and you plan to read it, don't read this review until after you've read book six.)
Vaughn's Y: The Last Man just keeps getting better as it goes on. Yorick and co. are on their way to Japan to search for the kidnapped Ampersand. This book focuses on a part of the trip where the crew stop in Australia to look for Yorick's missing girlfriend Beth. As always, Paper Dolls features almost nonstop action, but the action never gets in the way of character development. If the series stays this good, Vaughan will have created one for the ages. ****
Fantastic.......2006-12-26
The beat ongoing Vertigo series since Preacher keeps rolling along with Paper Dolls, which gives the answers to some questions as well as opening a whole new batch of new ones. Yorick, Agent 355, and Dr. Mann have finally arrived in Austrailia in search of Yorick's girlfriend Beth, only instead to find a journalist who plans on making Yorick's existence the headline of the century. Also in this volume, Yorick's other Beth who he had a fling with, is in a bit of an unexpected situation. Not to mention that Agent 355's origin is revealed, and Yorick's kidnapped pet monkey Ampersand (the only other living mammal on the planet) makes a break from his ninja kidnapper in Japan. Fans of the series pretty much know what to expect here in terms of the story and art, with Brian K. Vaughan further orchestrating the ever evolving story while dropping hints of what is to come here and there. Pia Guerra's art remains the solid work that you'd come to expect as well, and at the same time it's nothing spectacular. All in all, Y: The Last Man continues to be pure comic gold, and here's more proof.

Never too old for paper dolls.......2007-08-20
This fun book is all that it was cracked up to be. Written by Terry Taylor in a light-hearted, fun style,
it explores the various forms of paper dolls and the whimsical world of the child-at-heart. Well illustrated
with explicit instructions for even the klutz-- like me. Taylor's book will inspire you to try everything he
presents. And to draw from within yourself to create more. Have fun, you little cut-ups!!!
Now, back to my scissors and paper....
NOTE: This was supposed to be a 5-star rating. I'm new at this..... DUH.
paperdolls.......2007-02-20
Great book, I have recently begun creating and trading artdolls and ATC artdolls and this book is full of ideas and techniques. Also includes patterns for some paperdolls. I think this book is great for beginner crafters as well as those persons interested in paperdolls.
An inspiring, interesting book to own!.......2007-01-15
Honestly, I have not tried any of the art projects from this book yet, but I know that someday I will. However, that said, it is still a really cool book to have! I keep it on my coffee table, and find myself flipping through the pages quite often just for fun and enjoyment. It is a must for a paperdoll collector (like me), as well as for anyone interested in altered art and/or collage. Nice book to add to your collection!
. . . CREATE PAPER DOLLS WITH ' ATTITUDE ' . . . ?.......2006-10-20
Am I allowed to think of Terry Taylor's book as a "fun hodgepodge"? My spine usually stiffens when the noun "fun" is used as an adjective, but nowadays that probably proves what an antiquated & hopeless sense of humor I have.
O.K., maybe I am jealous? What unadulterated fun it would be, dragging out about 80-years-worth of ephemera & building chapters to share with other demented collectors. My mother cut paper dolls from fashions printed in copies of "Godey's Lady's Book" ( a Civil War era magazine bound into books). These were provided by her maiden aunts; now those genes seem to be showing up in great-granddaughters who are terribly clever at "concocting" paper dolls over a century later. Reviewer mcHAIKU suggests that crafty folks in each generation might also welcome an 'artful' bibliography!
Kids who grow up today without being overdosed with TV are the lucky ones. Their imaginations thrive & they don't clamor for store-bought "embellishments" either - they just scan images from their computers, or cut out the most amazing creatures & objects from slick magazine ads . . . or, better yet, create their own from an array of crayons, markers & color pencils. (These are made available by amazon.com in a great variety of departments: House & Garden, Tools & Hardware, Office products, Toys & Games!)
"Artful Paper Dolls" is a useful springboard for those not overly blessed with imagination. For me, its purchase was definitely an indulgence, and cleverly tempts me to take many detours - dragging out what should normally be boxed up to give away: Cracker Jack 'prizes' & milagros, old postcard & stamp collections, buttons, ribbons, lace & other 'furbelows' - you name it.
Terry Taylor sub-titled his book "new ways to play with a traditional form". I appreciate his being 'up front' as a male who grew up loving paper dolls. His other titles show his success at a variety of crafts, so why shouldn't he employ his ebullience and also encourage many amateurs to have fun? Tom Tierney's paper dolls of historical figures are well-researched & while the economy cannot support hundreds of creators of paper dolls, most of us could be adventuresome and create cards & dolls that radiate humor - the "attitude" I alluded to in the title of this review, and which I think Terry Taylor encourages.
LOVE THIS BOOK!!!.......2006-10-19

I love The Klutz Book of Paper Airplanes.......2007-06-27
I use this book as a year-end treat for the students I tutor in reading. The book touches on aerodynamics and science with fun-to-make paper airplanes as the theme. My students enjoy the challenge of folding, tweaking, and flying the airplanes. The paper that is included is sturdy and eye catching. Both boys and girls enjoy the projects in this book which range from simple to difficult. Each plane is different and demands that the student read and fold carefully. The vocabulary is stimulating.
Great book for kids.......2007-05-14
Looking for something to do with your child? This book is it! I got this for my son who is 5. My husband made these planes with him and they both had a lot of fun! Some of the planes are for indoors and some are made to be taken outside. Our 5 year old can not make the planes by himself but his cousin who is 11 can. The book comes with interesting paper to make the planes with, however any scrap book paper or regular copy paper will work.
Great fun for the whole family!.......2007-04-21
I bought this book for my five year old son, who has been totally into making paper airplanes lately. This book is great! It comes with clear, easy to understand instructions that are simple enough for a child to understand (he's still a bit young to do it himself, but he loves to watch them being made, and loves flying the end results!). The book comes with some great paper, too! It comes with ten different paper plane instructions, with a rating of difficulty on each. I also like how sturdy the book is- it's made of some heavy card stock material and comes with great pictures and illustrations on where to fold, how to fold, etc. The whole family has enjoyed this book- I highly recommend it!
Great drawings, easy to follow.......2007-03-21
Great pictures and diagrams of how to exactly build each airplane. My 5 year old son and I can really make some great airplanes with this book. The paper at the back is a bonus, but we haven't even used it yet and still love the book.
fun and educational.......2007-03-20
My son, 8 years old loves this book. The instructions are clear and made it easy for him to jump right in and start making airplanes. He even took the book to school and taught some friends how to fold different planes at recess. Having the paper, and a very good amount, included is great.

Pleasing Paper.......2004-06-17
Ming-Ju Sun has created a lovely collection of kabuki outfits, each one with the name of the character, play it is from, and style of play, from historical drama to musical. The inside of the covers also contains history and information on kabuki and kabuki actors. I recommend this for Ming-Ju Sun fans and kabuki fans, and those who love to collect beautiful paper dolls.
Great Costumes............2001-02-28
The kabuki costumes are very colorful and wonderfully drawn. There are 8 female costumes and 8 male costumes. The dolls are made of thicker paper, found on the flap of the back cover. Even though it defeats the point of having paper dolls, I found that I rather liked keeping the costumes uncut and left in the book. I use this book for reference, given the handy short descriptions on the side. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was because I've seen better work from Ming-Ju Sun. I recommend Ming-Ju Sun's "Japanese Kimono." This book has 26 costumes, more detailed with better color, and the whole book is done on thick paper. The paper for the Kabuki Costumes was much thinner and would most likely not endure prolonged handling. Both books are the same price but I believe you get a better deal with "Japanese Kimono."
Gorgeous Kabuki Costumes with short description.......2000-04-02
16 Kabuki Costumes with short description, such as "Benkei (an 11th-century warrior) in Kanjincho (The subscription List). Juhachiban." Each costume comes with appropriate Kumadori (make-ups) and wig.
Even though I don't know the details of each Kabuki costume, I believe it well convey the mood of Kabuki. If you are interested in Kabuki, it'll be a good starter.

We liked it!.......2007-01-10
I bought this for my 7 year-old daughter for Christmas. She really liked the dolls, and we thought the backgrounds and the pockets for the dolls were great. The only problem is that even though the dolls are punch-outs, the clothes have to be cut out very precisely with scissors, so she needed a lot of help with that.
Need to cut out.......2006-09-04
I'm not sure why the description says "easy to remove" clothes, because I had to cut everything except the dolls out. Maybe they meant easy to remove from the dolls, or maybe I just got a bad lot! But I had no idea I was going to have to cut everything out in order to use it! My hand is hurting! It's a cute set but also a little flimsy (while punching out the dolls a couple of them tore on the tabs).
Lots of fun.......2006-01-06
I gave this to my granddaughter on her 5th birthday. Her mother had already been reading her the primary Little House books. She was a big fan of them so she was thrilled to get the paper dolls so she could act out some of the stories she had been hearing.
This probably wouldn't be much fun for a kid who had not heard the Little House stories or a kid who has no imagination. But for my granddaughter, it was the perfect gift!
Wonderful Little Girl Play Day.......2000-02-19
The Big Woods Collection of My Book of Little House Paper Dolls is a charming and endearing set of paper dolls and props. You can either be inside the log cabin or outdoors in view of it. Either way, it will provide an afternoon of delight for any little girl

Overblown a bit.......2007-09-21
For the most part I liked this detective novel from the Spenser series very much. It has a good plot, which both Amazon and other reviewers have hashed and rehashed. The characters are good, as is the atmosphere. Perhaps the best element is the dialogue. Parker writes good dialogue, in the line of Westlake or Block.
What I didn't like was the fact that Parker feels compelled to stop all action dead to lay in what every character was wearing, even though most of the details have nothing to do with the action. Some of this is necessary, I suppose, but it should be part of the flow. Ditto for house furnishings and paintings on the wall. Ditto for drinks and food. I should add that too many writers have this same flaw. Prune, Ernest, prune, as Gertrude Stein advised Hemingway upon reading one of his early stories.
Mystery writers would do well to study the prose of Agatha Christie, Rex Stout and a few other masters of the genre. The reason we read mysteries is the plot, the puzzle, the atmosphere, not to know what color necktie a man is wearing, or what brand of scotch he drinks, or what furniture company made the couch in a room where nothing of significance happens.
Boston favorite.......2007-08-13
The answers to Boston murders aren't always in Boston. When Spenser identifies an Emerson quotation, Loudon Tripp decides that he would be an appropriate investigator. Tripp's wife, Olivia Nelson, had been murdered at Louisburg Square, not an ordinary address for a crime scene. Grief causes a kind of denial to set in. Tripp claims that everything in the family's life was perfect. Having no leads, Spenser decides to go to the victim's hometown. He learns that her father is still alive. The private investigator's relationship to the police officer assigned to the murder case is complex and interesting.
Spenser's travels, his way of putting together clues are of substantial interest to the reader. Parker's description of the actors is apt. The change of scene is fun. This is more intricately plotted than many Parker books and the care taken is all to the good.
Another winner in the Spenser series.......2007-07-21
When a prominent member of the community is murdered, Spenser is hired by her husband when he feels the police are not making headway quickly enough. Spenser quickly discovers that there is very little to discover (the police are leaning toward the "random psycho" theory), so he begins to do research into her past, finding there a tangled web of lies. He grabs an end of the web and starts to pull.
Like usual, this does not earn him any friends.
What he finds out is by turns shocking and tragic. This was a great book with a terrific twist to it that I just did not see coming at all and I can't even begin to give any more details about the plot without spoiling it. A strong recommend from me.
Color Crayons & Paper Dolls. Tigers Beware........2007-04-28
Push a Pin into the perfection balloon. What is marriage ... what are styles of domesticity ... to a wealthy WASP, to a liberated couple like Spenser and Susan, to a good-guy gay cop, to a State Senator, to an aging wealthy southerner.
The concluding scene in DOUBLE DEUCE, # 19 in the Spenser series, catered a surprising twist to Susan and Spenser's attempts at traditional homemaking. That close was as refreshing to the double S as a storm-brought rainbow. The choice carried in DD's final chapter surfaced in silent style into the thematic structure of PAPER DOLL, # 20 in the Spenser series.
To Loudon Tripp seeking the private eye to find his wife's killer, Spenser answered the "small problem" of his having been dismissed from the police force:
"I am trustworthy, loyal, and helpful, but I struggle with obedient."
Who was Olivia Nelson?
She was Loudon Tripp's murdered wife. Was she Harriet to Ozzie, or did she have a small problem.
Spenser's gum shoe stuck in southern muck as he researched the past of a double identity with no indemnity. While thus stuck, the P.I. endured a dual whap to his knee caps by a fake constable. The gum was seared off by BAD-knight-Quirk to the rescue (YEA!), in a scene to write about to a homemaker or a troubleshooter, maybe even a troublemaker, whichever would apply, or lie right.
In the early 90's what did we cook, what did we say, what did we wear, what books did we read. See here. Hear ye. (...)
Readers have commented that they feel this series is anti-gay. One might not hold that opinion after reading PAPER DOLL, in which Lee Ferrell was introduced and featured with compassionate clarity, as a young gay cop working for Quirk. As would be expected, the repartee scenes between Ferrell and Spenser popped. The corn, no pron, was light, fresh, sensitive and free (relatively).
In Alton, South Carolina, 1948 a child was born, bearing a tale and a trail of a "sister" of doom. Was there room at the Inn? Spenser stayed there, and learned the song, "one way ... or the other."
The opening scene of chapter sixteen provided a collection of guffaws from the way Spenser dealt with an auto paused to tail his travels. If that passage doesn't do that, it's possible you've lost your Proof of Existence Papers. Would you then be a paper doll? I'd rather be me. Since the breakout of loveable dogs in DOUBLE DEUCE, Parker had been warmly elevating the dog's life, and I relish it that introduction to the series, but don't know if I'm ready to be one, if I have a choice!
In addition to dogs, another Spenser "signature" was continued and repeated from DOUBLE DEUCE, that of how a character holds a whiskey glass. Note an example of that on page 237 of the mass market paperback. Might this signature be a continued tribute to Erin Macklin (who held her whiskey glass "with both hands")? Also note how Lee Ferrell held his glass in a few spots in this one. That, possibly more than Spenser's "adoption" of the gay cop, was telling of Ferrel's status, as it developed through an amber-filled glass.
The conclusion of the murder in this one was a switch. For me, it worked, stretching contemplation space in the part of my brain which ruminates Parker's tweaking of what makes a good guy/gal good and a bad guy/gal bad.
Parker gave a perfect clue to the murderer, but I didn't get it until the plot told me.
"The words hung in the room, drifting like the dust of ruination."
That wasn't the clue, nor was it the preface to comeuppance for the killer. It was just a line I quite liked. As always, there were several.
Holding books with both hands,
Linda Shelnutt
Unusual twist on "the butler did it".......2005-01-13
The wife of Loudon Tripp is brutally murdered by being pounded in the head with a hammer. Lieutenant Quirk investigates, but reaches a dead-end, due to lack of evidence and actions by the political machine. Quirk then advises Tripp to hire Spenser, which he does. On the surface, Tripp's family life gives the appearance of being ideal. Lovely wife heavily involved in the community, two very successful children and a great deal of inherited wealth. The police have tentatively attributed the murder to a random act of violence and while the case was not closed, it was about as lukewarm as it could be.
However, it does not take long for Spenser to learn that not all is as it seems to be, he visits the Tripp house and it gives him the appearance of a Potemkin village. To him, it is not a place where people live, but something kept in a permanent state of open house. Spenser then decides to visit the place where Tripp's wife grew up in an attempt to learn more about her. Of course, he tangles with the local law enforcement officers, who are being prodded by some private security people from Washington D. C. They are about to seriously rough him up when Quirk arrives and takes control in a very effective way. Parker is a master in describing this scene, Quirk makes no explicit threat and uses no violence, yet it is very clear that he is considering it and will not hesitate to kill a few people if they provide the justification.
The story has many twists and turns, and of course Spenser, Susan, Quirk and Hawk all have their contributions. However, in the end, the real criminal turns out to be a senator, and the murderer is someone who is extremely loyal to a man known as Jumping Jack for his past sexual activity, but who is now an obese, aged drunk. This is one of the better Spenser novels, because it lacks one of Spenser's traits, violence. Aside from the mild beating Spenser receives in jail and the one he and Quirk give as payback, there is no violence. Not a shot is fired, the storyline is based on people trying to hide things from outsiders, and Parker plays it to perfection.

Not what I expected.......2007-04-15
This book is very tiny (only 4 x 5 1/2") with the flower girls being less than 5" tall. There are only two little flower girls to dress- I didn't notice this in the item description until AFTER I had purchased the book. And all the clothing styles are very dated, even though it was printed just 4 years ago. Just not what I expected when I ordered this book. It's not terribly expensive, but if I had seen it in a bookstore I'd have passed it right up.
fun!.......2007-01-06
Good for any flower girl between the ages of 5 and 7. Sticker paper dolls are always popular with little girls
Paper Dolls.......2006-11-07
The booklets were so cute. The girls loved them and played with them all day. An excellent value!
Small Book better for older girls.......2005-07-24
I ordered this book for my three year old flower girl. The book itself was very small in size. I think it was difficult for small fingers to play with the delicate dolls. The pictures were very cute. Maybe a 6 or 7 year old would be better suited for it.

Fun with granddaughter.......2007-08-09
This has been my 3 year old granddaughter's favorite thing to do with Grammie. At first she picked out the doll and clothes to use, as I peeled the sticky shapes for her and punched out the clothes. Now that she is almost four, she has mastered peeling the paper off of the sheet to get the sticky shapes of her choice and we now take turns picking out a doll to dress and selecting an outfit, but we always work together. It is so very relaxing getting involved in this activity with her. We love sorting through the many pages of options that this wonderful book has to offer.
paper dolls.......2007-05-12
The dolls were most unattractive. Not at all like the pretty paper dolls I played with when I was a little girl. Not well done.
Not a relaxing project!!.......2007-04-15
As a teacher of young children, I find this book to be extremely labor intensive. There are many, many pieces and you must use sticky tape to apply the clothing. I even had trouble getting the backing off of the tape. I can't imagine doing this for every change of clothing I wanted. By the time you find all the pieces and put all the sticky tabs on, it takes about 10 minutes just to put on one outfit. There are too many choices in this book. Children benefit from simplicity and this book does not offer that.
awesome!.......2007-03-15
this book is fabulous. no tabs, settings to place the dolls in, people of color, very user-friendly for my 6 and 8 yr old girls who love it. recommend highly.
